The search for a new DM

Playing with an entire new midfield regardless could be deemed as risky.....the £30m doesn't need to go on potential, we can sign an experienced player 25-27 for that if needs be....or maybe another Gini type? I'd even take a Can type.

We haven't got by in the Klopp era by throwing about hundreds of mills for players.

I don’t want £30 mill worth of quality. That’s not much nowadays at all. Macallister was deemed as an absolute bargain for that reason.
If we’re going to take the huge risking of a complete overhaul, losing our captain in the process too, it absolutely has to be top quality.
Honestly, if it came between spending £30 mill on someone who doesn’t know the team and may not be great in this league etc etc, I’d rather stick with Bajcetic and spend the rest on a top drawer CB.

before we was injured, the kid was superb. Probably no difference in risk between letting him play and signing someone of £30 mill standard.

reading that back, it sounds a little mad, but, I dunno. Maybe I view his performances through rose tints, but he looked quality.

There's plenty of Portuguese players at Anfield, what Alisson had in common with Bobby was their Catholic faith.
I'm sure there's Brazilian community in and around Liverpool and Manchester, and I am also sure he has close friends now around Liverpool.
Give Alisson the armband and a £50k raise, and he will be happy.
I want our MF to be arielly superior too, Tchouaméni is very good as are the two I now want but Lavia isn't.

I'm not so sure being aerially dominant is important at all (in midfield). Notice how often the team winning the ball aerially then loses it in the 2nd phase as it drops to the opposing team (who now have an extra player available).

I'd much rather they were able to press, tackle, were pacy and able to track runners. These are far more important traits for a DM.

Ideally you want someone in that midfield who can win those aerial duels, the other 2 midfielders would be heavily involved in tracking runners/pressing/pacy and chip in with a few tackles too.

I agree somewhat it's not a neccessity but then your DM needs to be aggressive to supersede that (Your Kante's / Verratti's) etc.

I saw how in effective Naby and Elliott in our MF where the opposition would easily bring the ball down. It can't just be aerial dominance, it has to be good control, movement and being press resistant.

You can't bring the ball down and control it if being pressed.

Well, thos japanese cars are known for reliability above all else. So be careful when making these car analogies.
I own a Japanese car (& no it's not a micra) and I had to pay £800 recently because my brake calipers were seizing up every time I tried to speed over 40MPH.

Great engine though I'll admit, maybe a Hendo type?

Hendo is your Nissan Qasqai, though much older car it's still an upgrade on a Micra

Curtis Jones is a natural Audi - who is on a trajectory to becoming a Bugatti Chiron.
Why would you equate him to a German car known for good looks and reliability? A micra he is, nothing to look at, doesn’t do anything exciting, breaks down regularly unless you manage it and will get you A to B when driven properly.

Not top of my wish list, but is a safe bet. If we win the Europa Cup because of him I am not going to complain

He’s just turned 28 and Fabinho is still 29, alright it’s not far off 2 years age difference. I just don’t see us investing in a probable 2 season player for £40m.

Aye, but Palhinha has a fraction of the top level miles in his legs. Still, 40m would be tops for me.

Yea maybe, still not sure how possible it is to measure these things though. Agreed wouldn’t want to blow any more than that especially with only one good PL season behind him.

Palhinha was fantastic last season tbh, aggressive in the duels...aerielly dominant, quick to spot danger and covers quite a bit of ground for a slumberous guy. Should be looking at his type for sure but ideally someone a few years younger.

Be cool to have a 22/24 and 26 year old roaming our midfield.

Really? Fabinho is exhibit A in that sense…29 with 37 year old miles in his legs and just played a whole season like…a 37 year old.
TBH that's an assumption. And as it wasn't just him, but the whole team, my personal assumption is that last year was a reaction to the 21/22 season, the WC, and the lack of a proper mid-summer break. Some of his best performances of last season were actually in the last dozen games so maybe he's getting back to where he was. We won't find out now however.

To extrapolate on the above I feel we need to look at other sports, do we see the assumed level of burnout due to 'miles in legs'?

I don't think so but that's not to say that it isn't a factor for some but there are more than enough examples (from football to NFL to athletics to rugby etc. etc) to state that it's likely based more on personal fitness / genetics than a given that all will suffer.
Ally that to modern sports medicine and monitoring and I can't see how miles = early drop off, as opposed to being purely due to an age / genetics related decline.
