I'm a bit confused as to why some people have Pelligrini as their number 1 choice to replace Rafa.

He's taken on a top side, been furnished with Ronaldo, Kaka, Alonso, Benzema etc, and still managed to get them knocked out of the cup and Champions League at the first knockout stage.
Everyone with an ounce of sense (i.e. not Real fans) recognized that it was going to take time to mould all those players into a team. They brought in something 6-7 new first teamers in the summer. It's not just going to click just like that.

They are now starting to look pretty good in La Liga, although I think the debate as to whether the rest of the league are providing Real and Barca a strong enough test domestically is an interesting one - both teams are miles ahead of the competition.

As for Pelligrini, I don't think he's anyones first choice. He's just an interesting choice. And what he did at Villarreal was excellent

Valid points keni as per usual. I guess I'm just reacting to a feeling that his name is being mentioned because he's managing Real, a job that frankly many managers might do well in with the funds at their disposal and lack of strength in depth in La Liga (and by "do well" I mean in real terms, not Re-al terms).

He did well at Villareal (as did the non-english speaking Ramos at Sevilla) but still has a lot to prove. His spell (however long it lasts) at Real doesn't really provide us with any more evidence as to his suitability for Anfield given he's done no more than one would expect in his first season (and some would have expected more). He replaced Ramos (a spectacular failure in England) at Real, benefitted from signing two of the three best players in the world (and a host of other top players) and has arguably done little more than Ramos in challenging for La Liga whilst failing to progress in cup comps. That's not to dismiss the fact that he'd be better judged in a season or two and not now.

With doubts remaining over his ability to get the best out of a hugely talented squad (even though he's been successful at making the most out of a relatively smaller club in Villareal), the inevitable problem of not being english-speaking and the adjustment period he'll likely require coming to a new league, I think there are far more suitable candidates likely available and willing.

I wonder if Benzema will be up for sale in the summer? He's hardly playing there at the moment, and their new policy is to buy Spanish. If they sign Villa, then surely they'll want to sell - or perhaps even loan out - Benzema. If they do, and we have a new manager, we should be in for him like a shot. He's had a poor season, and his temperament is suspect, so I don't think Rafa would be the right man to get the best out of him, but fuck me, that guy has immense talent. He could play the Torres role on his own up front (when Fernando's injured) or he could also play the no10 role just behind him. I've even seen him do well on the right of an attacking three. Please please let this happen...

I doubt anyone would disagree Bunny. A half-price Benzema deal would be awesome.

Unfortunately, I'd imagine Man Utd would be in for him and he'd go there.

Real needs a manager to win them the CL. Rafa fits the bill.

LFC need a manger to win the league or anything. Not sure many will fit that bill except Fergie & Wenger & Mourhino.
england is the hardest league in the world to win
manu - manager has 20+ years experience
arsenal - manager has 10+ years experience
chelsea - bottomless pit of money
man city - will increase spending year on year

you could argue the manager we currently have is best placed to break up a monopoly (and jose but I doubt that will ever happen).

Don't make me dream again Bunny, please don't.

A half-price Benzema would probably go to Utd as Ferguson seems to love him so much.

I wonder if Higuain really was available in the summer. I suggested he'd be a great signing last year and this time round he's doing the business again - Real's top scorer if I'm not mistaken.

I've not been following the forum as closely as in the past recently - has anyone else mentioned him besides me?

I agree that his time at Real doesn't really tell us much one way or another. I mentioned his name purely on the basis of his accomplishments at Villarreal. But as said the other day, I don't know Spanish football well enough to discuss how much of his success at that club can be attributed to the setup as a whole and how much to his influence at the club.

I wonder what yesterday will do to him though. He missed a wide open net and a fairly good chance.

Supposedly, Man Citeh are tracking him as he wants money close to what the Galacticos earn.

He'll be okay - everyone misses chances. He's the same age as Bendtner!
I'd be happy enough signing him.

I know Ferguson likes Benzema, but he'd be an awkward fit at United - Berbatov in particular has a very similar style. Plus, if he were to play regularly, it'd mean moving Rooney away from CF, and I doubt he'd be happy with that after such an amazing season.

We are surely the only big club in Europe who currently have a grand total of ONE top-class striker. The absence of CL football might be a big point against us, but at least here, he'd be more or less guaranteed to start matches.

And yes, I know I'm fooling myself...

Missing chances is one thing, missing open nets that cost your team a spot in the next round of the tourney they're desperate to win is another.

Nice and all as that is, it's never going to happen.
I agree though, he is a beast of a player and will grow into one of the best CF in Europe.
He is perfect for the Premiership.

Which open goal did Higuain miss? The only 'sitter' I saw missed by a Real player last night was when Ronaldo rounded the keeper and hit the post.

Why would Madrid go for Rafa?
They are well aware of our disastrous season, disastrous transferts and the fact Rafa wants full control of the technical side and is one of the better paid managers. Perez is not a fool.
They will go for Mourinho.

They're also aware of the fact that not all the problems are Rafa's fault (despite your ongoing attempts to pretend otherwise), that he'd need no settling-in period at Real, that he has a good record with Valencia in La Liga and with us in Europe, and that Juve are already after him. They may quite well go for Mourinho, but they know that his first choice is a return to the Premiership, so Rafa will be well in the frame if they need a new manager this summer.

Nope, the fans always prefer Benitez over Mourinho especially after the footballing lesson we gave them last season and the fact that we came from behind to defeat Barcelona in Barcelona when they were at their peak. Two other factors work in favor of Rafa. Benitez is one of their own - a Madridista. He has the support and backing of influential people like Raul. He did a very good job with their youth team and quite a few of them are working in the background for Real either in the press or coaching setup.

Having a good transfer record is not a requirement at Real. He can afford to waste 100 million as long as he delivers the champions league. And with the transfer budget at Real, they know that Benitez is the closest they can get to a guaranteed Champions League.

A Megalomaniac twat :🙂
Well to be honest Id be happy if they hired Rafa. They'd do us a great favour
Judge and Peekay raised some fair points...Rafa used to be their number 1 choice, I dont think he is anymore.
KHL's favourite might be their next manager...

The ramification of Madrid's 'loss' last night?

He's a shit Manager & we shouldn't touch him with a bargepole.

If you need to know anything else, ask.
