They'll figure something out.

If Gomez continues his woeful finishing in front of goal, then that spot is there for the taking.

I know he was disastrous in the final and I'm not sure I'll get over that let alone him but Gomez was unstoppable during the season.

I know some had high expectations of Dzeko but I can't see him outperforming what Gomez did last season.

I'll put my money on Dzeko doing the business for Bayern.

I really rate Dzeko, I just don't think he's suited to the EPL.

You're right about Gomez, he was great all season - I just haven't forgiven him for what transpired in the European Cup Final 🙁

Hmmm, maybe our definition of "dribbling" differs but, for me, any guy who can take the ball from in his own half up the other end of the field while beating a couple of opponents on a regular basis is a pretty good dribbler. The fact he does it against all opposition pretty much cements the point for me.

Just for the record, after leaving Chelsea Scolari declared that Kalou can dribble round any player in the game with ease. He also commented that he doesn't attempt it in the opponents box which is an interesting point.

Are we talking about a different Kalou here?

Again, ive only seen the Hulk a handful of times but hes never impressed either..

Not sure, I'm talking about the one who has 100+ goals and assists in 240 games; heaps of those games were from the bench as well. As a free he's well worth it IMO; he's not Edin but he's streets ahead of anything we've had out wide since Macca left.

I'll qualify that and say he's streets ahead of anything we've had in terms of goals and assists. Kuyt has been exceptional in work rate and drive but not a lot of goals and assists.

I have to say when I came across those stats a few weeks ago I was genuinely shocked. He's always come across as a bit shite to me. But there it is, his record *is* excellent.

He's like yakubu

Shite, but gets results. Something which we need based on this season.

Kalou: 6 seasons - 259 games, 58 goals, 40 assists
Kuyt: 6 seasons - 285 games, 71 goals, 34 assists

In all competitions for both in their careers in England so far.

It's pretty much my definition as well. 🙂

I think you're overrating Kalou a fair bit here. Has decent pace, good technique, and goalscoring ability, but nowhere near the skill or close control you're attributing to him.

He's a good-ish attacking player, but nothing particularly special, and not in any way significantly better than Kuyt. In fact, on consideration, I'd have had Kuyt over Kalou over the last 6 years if I had to pick.

Not anymore, of course, since Kuyt is in his 30s, and Kalou is still only 26. So for that reason, he wouldn't as a player be a bad pick-up on a free. But also consider that he'd be on massive wages, and is also not a player who brings a lot of individual brilliance to an attack. He was a good weapon in a counter attacking set-up like Chelsea's, alongside superior attacking players (compared to Liverpool's). In a different attacking set-up, and one with inferior individual attacking players, I think he'd look pretty ordinary.

Liverpool attacker Dirk Kuyt says he is wanted by teams in several countries after ruling out a return to former club Feyenoord this summer.
Kuyt

He has just a year to run on his contract at Anfield and has been tipped to leave after already revealingHamburg

have shown an interest.

However, Kuyt also says clubs in Spain and Italy are on his trail as he considers his future during Liverpool's ongoing search for a new manager.
"There are many clubs who are interested," he told NUsport in Holland. "Not only from England, also from Germany, Spain and Italy."
Doubts

The 31-year-old, who will be part of the Netherlands' Euro 2012 challenge this summer, has confirmed he will not be heading back to Feyenoord following talks with his old club.
"I have had several conversations with Feyenoord but we were unable to agree," he added.
"I did not want on my conscience that Feyenoord would have financial problems because of my salary.
"There were too many doubts on both sides. I've thought about it, but it is not the time to return. "

Hulk is a fantastic player. If Chelsea get him aswell then their attacking front four is excellent to say the least.

Good thing they're not thinking about the defence..

West Brom have held talks with former Schalke and Stuttgart boss Ralf Rangnick as they step up their search to find Roy Hodgson's successor, Press Association Sport understands.

Rangnick, 53, has emerged as the clear favourite to take over from new England head coach Hodgson. But reports that the Baggies have already made a formal offer to Rangnick are premature.

He first met with Albion officials when a guest of the club for the final home Barclays Premier League game of the campaign with Arsenal on May 13. Compensation would not be an issue as Rangnick has been without a club since leaving Schalke eight months ago because of exhaustion.

He nudged ahead of Birmingham boss Chris Hughton after it emerged the npower Championship club were looking for around £2million in compensation.

Blues were also prepared to turn down Albion if they approached asking for permission to speak to Hughton who would then have had to resign to force the issue.

Rangwick had two spells at Schalke, leading them to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2010-11, in addition to a four year stint at Hoffenheim.

Any chance we can nab Gylfi Siggurdsen now that Rodgers is headed our way?

Thoughts on Affellay for £6M?

This story caught my eye from the ArsenalInsider:
One of our team here at Arsenalinsider was told that Walcott was signed, sealed and delivered as a Liverpool player until Kenny Dalglish was axed at Anfield.

I hate Walcott.

Yep, he was a boyhood red like a vast number of our other flops. Bullet well and truly dodged.

I laugh when my Pommie cousin talks up Walcott - "Walcott is sick bruv"

[edit: this isn't a dig at all Poms, just my cousin]

Walcott is basically an athlete who plays football.

The real shame in all of this is that he could have been a very fine footballer ... it's not his fault he is overrated ... until he arrived at Arsenal, he was never taught the fundamentals of the game (technique, skill) to the level required.

I've been told he's asking for a pay rise at Arsenal ... I'd sell him if that's the case.

I think Walcott improved a lot last season.

Yeah, I'm not convinced by him nor would I think he's worth his current salary but I think he improved a lot over the last 2 seasons actually. Anyone else watch Arsenal much; I heard he looks to have lost half a yard of pace in the last season.
