The Mo Contract Saga

Your logic is based on an assumption that Dalglish & the board were taken completely by surprise by Torres' move to Chelsea.
No my it is based on the fact that Babel sale was the reason Saurez arrived at the club when he did. Regardless of the circumstances surounding the Sale of Torres, and who did or did not know has nothing to do with how Saurez was purchase

It doesn’t matter what the ”trigger” was for signing Suarez.

We probably would have still signed Suarez if we hadn’t sold Torres - we’ll never know... because we did sell Torres the day we signed Suarez & Carroll. We didn’t sign Suarez the day we sold Babel.

All the deals would have been under discussion at the same time.

Do you reckon we wouldn’t have signed Suarez if we’d sold Torres and kept Babel?

£8m for Coates wasn't bad, Imo we sold him too soon and that scissor kick he scored at QPR was worth the money.

For me Carroll to this day remains the worst transfer in British history, I mean the guy was a living breathing donkey wasn't he.

There's no way we would've signed Suarez without selling Torres

As soon as we sold Babel (On 25 January 2011) And On 28 January 2011, Ajax accepted a €26.5 million (22.8 million) offer for Suárez
On 27 January 2011 Chelsea offered £40m for Torres. which was turned down. The next day he handed in a transfer request which was also turned down (28/01/11)
and signed for Chelsea on 31/01/11

Quite right we didn't signed Saurez the day we sold Babel, but he was signed very soon after, some three days later, while Torres was still a Liverpool player, and the money from the sale of babel was the amount short of the second offer we put in for Saurez

"All the deals would have been under discussion at the same time".
I don't believe that was the case with this deal, as Liverpool was saying that it was the plan to play Torres and Saurez as strike partners. And I believe that LFC was truely shocked when Torres put in a transfer request.
And "IF" so then the deal was already in place to sign Carroll for the £35m

It wasn't that bad. Suarez alone was probably one of our best signings in the modern era. Henderson has undoubtedly more than repaid the £16M we spent on him. Bellamy was a great free transfer, and Doni was a back up keeper on a free.

Whilst neither were outstanding, Enrique and Downing were both had some decent moments

Obviously Adam, Carroll and Coates were disasters.

I know these weren't in either era mentioned but whenever we discuss our worst transfer decisions I cant help but think of Alberto Aqualini, £18 Million and also Antonio Núñez as part of the Michael Owen deal.

Where’s that young Scottish defender we signed under Kenny, i don’t think he was that cheap either.

Andy Carroll and Mario Balotelli were both horrendous signings, it’s still difficult to believe we paid that much for Carroll and even gave Balotelli the time of day

What a strange hill to die on.

So cute that he believes sequential conclusions of deals means all negotiations must also have been equally as sequential.

I bought a pint of milk today, then later on I bought a loaf of bread - proof positive that the cow was milked before the wheat was harvested.

Hopefully it wasn’t the shock of discovering that your favourite tea bags, that you’d been planning to pair with the milk all along, were all gone, that led you to panic a loaf of bread, that you’d previously never considered buying.

What a strange hill to die on.

It's not too long since the majority in this site repeated that nonsense.

It was obvious at the time the "paperwork delay" that held up the Suarez deal was the paper we needed to receive from Chelsea for Torres.

@Rosco you look up the facts yourself. How you can say that Saurez was bought with the money from Torres when Suarez was signed and paid for before Torres's fee with Chelsea was even argee, and he was paid for just does not fit the time scale or the way in which the event transpired.

But if it makes people happy chosing to believe otherwise, then have at it

Also, If it was as you claim it adds to the nonsense that Liverpool was buying Saurez to play along side Torres, does it not

Yeah, that was desperate and no way back for Rafa after that even if he wasn’t involved in the transfers. The one after that Hodgson was just a horror sequel…

Karius probably cost us a CL trophy and probably a league too. Lazar cost £20m and couldn't even make the bench. Aquaman was scared of the grass. Balotelli was like a fish out of water, I've never seen a more uncomfortable football player

The only part I know for sure about this is Suarez did not sign for is until deadline day. We it Jan 2011 ?

The deal was agreed earlier in January but there were unexplained paperwork delays, which did not resolve themselves until we had agreed a deal to sell Torres.

There were comments from Torres in more recent years that undermined the story about his sale being an unexpected last minute thing. It had been expected to go through all month.

There was never any plan to have the two playing together.

We would have probably lost that final with Mignolet in goal as well. It would have been closer, but after Salah’s injury we didn’t have enough quality to beat Real.

LOL at the Andy Carrol/loaf of bread analogy 🙂

Whenever a player or manager wants to leave or when they want to trade or sell a player, FSG have form for dripfeeding and leaking information to the media to turn the fanbase against the player. Happened more than a couple of times with the Red Sox. I don't think we will never learn the true story behind the Torres transfer. He was definitely pushing for a move and at the same time it was convenient for FSG to let him go given the money involved. I will be very surprised if it was a last minute unexpected thing.
