The midfield

Thaigo isnt pask his peak. But he's obviously a player were we have to have some good back up plans given his injury record for us. As a player he's to good not to be in the reckoning and certainly not past his best.

We do need a midfielder this season. The question is what type of player and if he's available.

I think they should do the same table for Keita and Ox. That might urge the management to do something sooner rather than later (not that they are not aware of the issues already, I hope).

It would be interesting to know who's on the list, assuming we would want to bring in more than one midfielder which, considering we're likely to see Ox, Milner, Keita and possibly Jones leave next summer, I would hope is the case.

Even if that were true, the first team was either better or as good.

There's no debate that it's true. This is the third season in a row where the lack of depth in a core part of the team has been or is a major discussion point.

Two season's ago, it was at centre-back, last season was our forward line and now it's the midfield.

City's money makes all the difference when it comes to strength-in-depth. It's the difference between having Ben Davies as a stop-gap or stop-gaps that gets into Arsenal's first eleven.

Agreed about the first team.

Lol City had zero strikers last season and you think OUR forward line was depleted?

City have sold Zinchenko, Jesus and Sterling and lost Fernandinho. Brought in Haaland, Phillips and Alvarez.
If anything they look to have a lot less strength in depth in all honesty.

They might not be done. They did try to get that spanish lad from Brighton with the silly hair

Yea but you have to say that they signed Sterling’s replacement a year ahead of him leaving in Grealish. Fernandinho was replaced ages ago with Rodri and was just a squad player who they’ve sort of replaced with Phillips. They’ve signed 2 forwards to replace Jesus and a year later than expected Aguero but they had Sterling in the meantime. Zinchenko is the slightly odd one as it leaves them a bit short but probably no shorter than we have been with Trent.

A one transfer window comparison doesn’t work when they’re working across several windows. Watch them replace KDB a year ahead of time too with someone fantastic.

Grealish only plays on the left though and Sterling could play anywhere across the front 3. Same with Jesus.
Feels to me that they've lost a lot of the flexibility they had regarding the personnel on the bench.

Yep, and it's not just my opinion. There's a reason we bought Diaz and Nunez. You can't have been here last summer because the complaints about the lack of signings for up front was loud. Same as it is now for our midfield.

City had Jesus but Guardiola just preferred to play him on the wing. Playing with zero strikers is probably his favoured formation anyway so hardly a hindrance to having just the one.

If we can get anything like ¾ of a season's games out of him then I'd be delighted. Or even 50-60%. Our win percentage with him in the team is off the charts and it increases our chances in any competition and against any team. It's when he's not available I have doubts.

With Keita likely to sign a new contract it's highly unlikely he'll be departing - much to the chagrin of some on here.

Whilst not exactly like for like in at least two cases they are stronger players. They have improved but Haaland's integration, or lack of, is the key (judges over a season not just a negative West Ham).

That's not the point!!!

The point is City had problems AS WELL.

We had a better team and squad than City last season and should have won the league. No amount of bitching about oil money will convince me otherwise.

Jesus, ok.

Mahrez isn't a striker and you know it.
That depends on your definition of a striker. In the absence of an out and out CF, c.f. City last season, then Mahrez was their main goalscorer. So if a goalscorer isn't a striker what is he ?!
