The middle of the park

All these transfer rumours flying about but one area that i feel concerned about is central midfield. Can is only 20, We're open to offers for Lucas, Stevie is aging, Henderson has proved his critics wrong and is improving all the time, but I'd still like us to go balls out to sign a proven world class midfielder. Someone who grabs the game by the scruff of the neck and makes things happen defensively, in the centre circle and adding thrust to the attack. What do you reckon? anuyone out there fit the bill who is a realistic target. I'd love us to get Khedira but just can't see it happening.

Yep - this and a CB are the big gaps for me. Maybe Brendan sees Can as a starter. I was very impressed with Allen by the end of the season so I think if we are playing the 'inverted diamond' like below we are missing a bit of depth should we suffer injuries.

At DM we have: Gerrard, Can, Lucas
At CM we have: Hendo, Allen, Coutinho, Lallana

Coutinho did a good job when played in the centre at times last year but I feel we need a more focused CM to go with Hendo and Allen as Coutinho and Lallana are likely to play further up the pitch. Gerrard needing rest would leave a gap though if Can struggles to step up.

I think Khedira is being overrated a bit after his performance the other day.

Casemiro is apparently available from Real, he could become a very useful midfielder.

Alex Song is apparently available for cheap and there isn't much interest either. I'd be thrilled if we replaced Lucas with him at comparable cost.

If we sell Lucas i reckon we'll replace him
