I can see the women's side asking for an academy in the next couple of years. That might change the calculations, and have the lizards saying you know what, nobody gets an academy, now you's can all fuck off.

How much does it cost to run a footy academy? If it's less than five million a year, and it defo is, we could pay for the next 20 years by selling TAA

And by we, I mean the lizards. You think the lizards don't have calculators?

Let's not forget about the money we get from selling some of these academy players. Ward went for 12m, Ibe went for 15m, and plenty of others who didn't even play a single first team match but was sold at substantial amounts.

Because every now and then, you get a Carragher, McManaman, Gerrard, Owen or Fowler.

Or Alexander-Arnold.

That's one in 20 years though. Sterling was nicked from someone else's no? That die was cast.

The benchmark is likely other clubs

Spurs
United
City
Arsenal
Chelsea

Do they produce tons of yewf?

Mount and Abraham coming through nicely at Chelsea
Willock and Nelson at Arsenal
Skipp and Walter Peters at Spurs
Foden at City....although gets no minutes.
Greenwood at Utd....Rashford and Mctomminay in recent seasons.

Trent for us in recent seasons....not much else really.

Whilst city's lack of players coming through undoubtedly has to do with the vast amounts they pay to get top class backups, it also highlights how difficult it is for a younger player to come in to a side that wants to genuinely challenge for the title & European Cup.

When the points & games are all so valuable it's exponentially harder to integrate inexperienced players in the first team.

In the ideal world right now you'd be rotating the front three due to how much they've played & giving valuable playing time to Brewster, for example, but if we do that we'll be much more likely to drop points, & they could be invaluable points come the end of the season if it's similar to last season.

u23's 4-2 up at Soton.

Everytime I see Jones play for u23's he looks the best player on the park....completely different player that played in pre season.

Elliott looked good, Brewster looked ok. Van Den Berg looks crap. Hoever skillful but has mistakes in his game.

Chirivella is still with us too.Actually played a lot of nice passes.

So two per club? Bar City.

It's only natural I think. Not 100 percent sure but doesn't the London and Manchester teams have a much greater "pool" of players to choose from?
Also we have to split it with Everton.

What is Chirivella still doing at the club playing for the reserves?

He seems a decent enough player. Surely someone is willing to give him a shot?

Weird innit. Assume he's turned down other moves in hopes of a better club and it's failed

Liverpool youngster Leighton Clarkson has trained with the senior squad for the first time, according to the Echo.
The 17-year-old put pen to paper on his first professional contract back in July, and was invited by Jurgen Klopp to feature in the Reds’ first team session on Tuesday.
Midfielder Clarkson has been with the club since the age of seven, with the report suggesting that Klopp is keeping “close tabs” on the youngster.

I highly doubt the die is cast at 15 yrs old ! Now if you'd said 17-18 OK but even then major changes (positional too) are made. At 15 definitely still in the moulding process.

Agreed. But at 3-0 up against Arsenal (or anyone) would be an ideal time to blood them, but no Origi gets more time (tongue in cheek). Was Brewster even on the bench ?

Kelleher looked great there in fairness.

How many players have come through and become mainstays over the past 15 years- TAA?

It looks like Spearing, Warnock, Kelly, and Flanagan is it really. All have between 45-50 games but they drifted away.

Makes you wonder why we put so much effort into the academy with so little return.

Because every once in a while someone pays 15 million quid for Jordan Ibe.

I think there are a few circumstances that led to those players getting a run out. Chelsea have a transfer ban, Arsenal have been out of the CL for years, Spurs are not massive spenders and Rashford only got a look in because of an injury crisis and took his chance.
