Looks like we might be watching the scramble from the sidelines.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he does not intend to make any new signings in January as he wants to give his existing players a chance.(Telegraph)

However there is this :
Klopp is an admirer of Leroy Sané and Neven Subotic, while an interest has been registered in Marko Grujic – Tony Barrett, The Times.

Jurgen Klopp has vowed he won’t splash the cash just for the sake of it in January as he insisted his Liverpool squad is strong enough to maintain a challenge on four fronts.

Owners Fenway Sports Group have made it clear there will be money available for the right deals when the transfer window opens next month.

However, Klopp is prepared to wait until next summer to bring in reinforcements as he continues to assess the talent he inherited from Brendan Rodgers.
“If your boss thinks you’re not in the best day in your life maybe he’ll get another one but that’s not how the world should run,” Klopp said.

“If we need something we will do it, not talk about it before. But in this moment I don’t think about it. “We are prepared for any situation, we have 24 hours always at work. We always watch players on video but if we take them in winter, in summer or never, I don’t know at this moment.

“It’s much more important to work with the people here and if you trust them they have to feel it, and not just for two days but for a longer time.
“If we have problems it’s not with quality, it’s maybe with concentration or other things.
“But we don’t know if players we get will do it better. I’d give the advice to stay cool and see what happens.”

'I don’t feel we have to look at other people just because they cost £20million'

Klopp has a great ability to say something that has some substance in terms of revealing his way of thinking, but doesn't actually reveal his plans in any way or irrevocably commit himself to any particular course of action 🙂

Indeed. Even a serious newspaper like the "Telegraph" has to exaggerate what he said in order to create a worthwhile headline for its article.

Just like it should be. If the right quality player is available, I'm sure Klopp will want him signed in January.

Its a simple ploy really. Any time we've shown signs of desperation, we ended up paying above market value for players or Chelsea /Spurs/United hijacked the deal; plus constantly getting shafted over agent fees. ..

Saying no plans to buy players in Jan, puts an end to that!

Or may be he plans to buy no players in Jan. I think we need striker and a defensive playmaker. If klopp can get Alonso which will not burst the banks I think we'll have a far more balanced squad

He does speak very well. The quote above I find very encouraging. We do not have a shallow manager following standard formulas. Doesn't seem like he needs to load the team with "his" players, but can see the talent in some of the under-performing players we have.

Wow. Now I think Klopp is boss, don't get me wrong.

But those quotes above are classic political speak. He says nothing yet promises almost anything.

That's boss for the press, but we as fans should be able to see past that surely?!

Not really. I think what he's doing to controlling expectations, both for how fast the team can progress and what they are capable of at this moment, and also for the January transfer market.

We, as fans, will probably hang on his every word as printed by the media and read everything possible into it irrespective of what he actually said. Then, because we know better, tell him he should buy a goal keeper, a striker, a left back, a right back, a central defender, a defensive midfielder and holding midfielder, 2 wingers and a striker but not a number 10. We've got 3 of those - thanks brenders.

I expect zero signings in Jan unless we get more long term injuries
Hahaha. That's mental.

At the very least we will be signing a keeper.

I suspect if we can't get a top class keeper in their prime we may get an older more experienced (& most importantly) available, keeper to do a job until we can get a long term solution.

We've been linked with Diego Lopez, he's currently not starting for Milan.
Was very good for Real Madrid but not sure how good he is now.

He's fine - but Milan went with their 16 year old phenom goalie. He's been very solid so far, so they're sticking with him (as they won't be winning Serie A this year). Lopez would be a short term fix obviously -

Timo Horn please to replace Ming. He's class, commanding great distribution and shot stopper. Also has a decent penalty save record

Aren't there questions about his attitude though? Won't be much use signing a good keeper if he's a troublemaker and/or can't be @rsed.

I'm relaxed about it TBH. Surely it shows that Klopp thinks he can improve the guy and/or that we'll be looking to sell and are safeguarding the price. Either way, I'm happy to trust the manager's judgment.

Maybe it's like when we gave Suarez a new contract, it was just so we could set the price for him to leave. Expect a £75 million release clause and a move to Barca to replace Ter Stegen in the summer.
