He was here for 5 years and last year we were selling him to the highest bidder. Not really a nomad. Or a prostitute.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

From Balague, I know he's full of shit but if this is true it could get very messy.

In response, I can only say that this is a very complicated situation and I am hearing conflicting versions of events: the player`s entourage are denying that Xabi Alonso has handed in a transfer request; while on the other hand, Liverpool Football Club insists that a transfer request was submitted to the club last night, and it has been suggested that the paperwork was prepared at least a month in advance.

I am of the opinion that the decision to make this public knowledge represents an attempt to speed up the negotiations while simultaneously making it known that it is the player who wants to leave.

As has been widely reported, Rafa Benitez had effectively placed a 48 hour deadline on the deal and it is apparent that Liverpool want this matter resolved once and for all, today, so that they can plan for life with, or without, Alonso from tomorrow. However, Real Madrid – or should we say Florentino Perez – may stubbornly refuse to be seen to pressured into reacting to any ultimatum and, furthermore, the Spanish club are encountering difficulties in offloading players to raise funds and free up space in an overloaded squad. On the other hand, it is possible that a fee could be agreed today and that Liverpool accept an immediate first instalment with subsequent payments made at a later date covering the total amount.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

If they can't afford the fee upfront there's little point in doing business.

There's no guarantee the clubs we negotiate a replacement with will accept similar conditions.

Can I get paid to idly speculate.

Breaking news, its possible war has been declared. In other news, it is possible that GM has declared bankruptcy, though perhaps not.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

There's nothing to get messy about. You want him? You pay 30 million fucking big ones or shut your fucking big whore of a mouth. End of. Let's see how much bollocks Rafa has.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani is unlikely to leave the club and join Liverpool as far as his agent Franco Zavaglia is concerned.

Il Messaggero claimed the Reds were in Rome trying to close a deal for the Italian midfielder. It is said an offer of €20 million, plus a five-year deal for the player was being discussed.

However, Franco Zavaglia made it clear that he is unaware of any deal for his client, suggesting there would not be any move.

Tuttomercatoweb.com claim they spoke to the agent and he denied the Liverpool deal, insisting he has not heard from the Premier League side.

Furthermore, the agent made it clear that Aquilani wants to stay in Rome after signing an extension with the club earlier this summer.

Zavaglia also confirmed his client's recovery from ankle surgery is going according to plan.

Media reports have consistently linked the Italian to Liverpool as a replacement for Xabi Alonso, should he join Real Madrid.

that pisses on that bonfire then ... Cattermole it is...

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Good. Fucking funboy crock. This has gone beyond a joke now. If Benitez loves Alonso as much as he's publicly declaring then this shit would have ended ages ago. "He's ours. Go fuck yourselves." End of.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

We're right to issue the deadline.

If that passes we shouldn't get drawn into negotiations whatever the proposed fee.

(Unless it's an awesome player + cash deal)
