The incredible Xabi Alonso thread 2009.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Fair.

However, your stance on every single Xabi topic there has ever been on this site and your insistance that Rafa's the bad guy in this and Xabi's done everything perfectly at all times would suggest that my statement about you is far more close to mark about you and yours was of me and my kind.

Note: I don't really think you'd believe everything Xabi said, Anita.
Look, pettiness aside. Like I've said in my longer post, obviously I'm a Xabi fan so I'm gonna look upon him more favourably than others might. But I'm not anti-Rafa either, not by some stretch, I'm just not someone who blindly trusts him either.

And like I've said in that same post, I don't hate or blame Alonso for wanting to leave, but of course I am still majorly disappointed in him. Whilst I think the decision to leave is his, I think Rafa has played a part, that's all.

Apologies if I managed to cause offence. X (Say hi to Amy, Annie, Andy etc 😉 )

Keegan yes. But then we replaced him with the King to soften the blow. As for Souness and Rush, I am not so sure the club didnt think those players were fast approaching the end, and we got good value for them.
Neither were anywhere near the end.

Anyway someone I know who works in the media reckons he spoke to someone at the club this morning and it looks like £15million plus Snieder and Van Der Vaart.

Just passing on what I've heard.

That makes me feel a lot better.
Now that would be an excellent deal to be fair.

Cheers Neets.

No offence caused at this end, just vastly differing views on this particular topic, is all.

I'm no RCDNW'er either, as you're probably well aware, however on this particular topic, I think the "blame" is on Xabi, if (and that's a big "if&quot😉 he's leaving because of last summer. If he's not, that completely changes my argument, believe it or not.

Likewise, apologies from me if they're required. And I know that LFC is your first love, or I'd not even indulge in an argument with you.

Only question remaining... Who's your passion on the team now?

Rush was so near the end that we took him back a year later 🙂

What will this supposed transfer request do to the fee?
It weakens our position greatly.
Not really. Xabi misses out on a fat loyalty bonus which enables us to accept a slightly lower offer without losing out. It just means it should be resolved a lot quicker.
First, the paltry Arbeloa fee and now this.

That's twice they've fucked us over in 2 days.

30m with 3m to Alonso = 27m
27m with 0m to Alonso = 27m.

I wonder what Benitez has done to Ballague. Shut him out for talking too much in the past? He's suddenly gone all Bascombe.

Yes, but he used to be desperate to depict himself as Rafa's great mate, and now his comments nearly always have a bitter little dig at the manager.

In this market, 3.5 million for Arby and 30 million for Xabi is paltry.

13 million for Cattermole, 9 million for Tuncay...TUNCAY???!!!

The fact that it's the same club for both players makes me sick.
Neither of those players have sold for that or any other price so why speculate?
Martins - 9m
Valencia - 12m
Downing - 12m
Barry - 11m
Tevez Yup TEVEZ - 25M
Santa cruz - 17m
Alonso - 30m-ish.
Its a fucking excellent fee mate.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

When you compare him to those players, it's not bad.

But he was stellar for us last year, and for most of his 5 years here.

His importance to us is only less than Benzema to Lyon, or Zlatan for Inter...or even the gayfaced Pais Hilton fucking bastard.

And they went for a hell of a lot more.

I know our hand is being forced,Oncy...but we should be getting a lot more.

I know what you mean. I think he'd still like to think he's in the loop, but his smug, ingratiating tone these days suggests that he's more concerned about his reputation than being genuinely informative.

I think he's been out of the loop for some time.

Spot on. And if you take his last 3yrs playing, only 1 has been decent. So 25-30mill is a very good return. There's no guarantee that he wont go back to his average form again next season.
I obviously dont want to see him go as we need to keep our best players, but I don't think he's a player in the 25-30mill bracket over the last few years so we're doing a good bit of business if we get it.

This player was apparently worth 13-15m last year.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Fair enough, but that was last season.

Your view suggests that we're making a massive profit, and we are.

But in this inflationary market, and considering how important he was to us this past season...this is a bad deal.

I have a tiny vestige of hope this won't go through tho.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Firstly - LOL @ Oncy for the Xabi sized shirt. Spot on.

I disagree with you on the Xabi has hung us out to dry thing. If Rafa wants to keep Alonso all he has to do is reject Madrid's bids, we haven't. We've been negotiating with them.

We've known for a while Xabi's wanted out, and we know Benitez isn't too bothered about it once he gets a decent price for him. We also know that Rafa has been cautious this summer not to be seen to be forcing Alonso out again (after receiving a bit of a backlash from fans last year), likewise Xabi didn't want to be seen to abandon us.

The ideal situation was Madrid give both Rafa and Alonso offers they couldn't refuse, and everyone parts on good terms.

Both Rafa and Xabi are to blame for the situation, and Real even more so. Cunts.

And Nessie summed up how I feel about Xabi now, he's now better than little fucker that now plays for the Mancs. Fuck him.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Depends on who we buy to replace him tho.

And how much, and how well and how quickly we gel the team.

We're not panicking yet tho. 😉

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

In situations like this, I feel the way I do when somebody who's been dating my family members or friends leaves them...

For me, there's no better option out there, so they basically become nothing to me. I don't wish them ill, but they've rejected someone very close to me, so from that point on, fcuk 'em.
