The incredible Xabi Alonso thread 2009.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Apparently Alonso isn't all that keen to move, instead the idea has been sold to him, as we need the revenue we'll be able to generate from his sale for more offensive players, namely Silva. And Rafa feels between Lucas and Spearing, with Gerrard if necessary we've got enough CM.

Just what I've been told, I'm not saying it's true or I believe it, just passing it on, I don't want any Mark MC treatment. Thankyouplease...very much.

if that's true, oh DEAR, rafa.
ship out xabi for a wide player who MAY step up to the required level all the while banking on spearing and lucas to fill the gap alonso leaves.

oh dear rafa, oh DEAR.

This whole concept isn't plausible, in the slightest.

Also, I'm imagining someone speaking what you typed above, and it gave me douche chills. "OHhhhh DEAAARRRRR"

i think he realised just how many games he won for us thus keeping benitez in the job. maybe a year in madrid, we'll collapse, rafa gets sacked and he'll come back as player manager. its the only way.

well thanks for that. I actually think the story is rubbish but if it 'were' true then it would be a massive error in judgement from the manager.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

In all likelihood it was his plan.
However, I expect he thought he would get Barry for a snip because he was in the final year of his contract. The net from that in addition to other sales would have funded a quality attacker like Silva.
It's all been said ad infinitum and it's all pointless now since Barry is at City.

Yeah, and while we're on the subject can you imagine if Rafa shaved his head, put on a white robe and a pointy hat and started using LFC press conferences to promote the BNP?

That would be a massive error of judgement n'all. The cunt.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I have no idea if As is reliable at all, but they're saying the deal is going to be finalized in 48 hours:

NEWS: Two additions imnmediatas Real Madrid
Benitez Xabi to "solve the transfer within 48 hours"

Marco Ruiz 28/07/2009

Real Madrid and Liverpool have already taken up the negotiations

Xabi Alonso is getting closer to sign for Real Madrid. Liverpool's players landed in England yesterday after a long journey of 16 hours from Singapore (with a stopover in Bulgaria). Rafa Benitez took the move to have one last conversation with the midfielder: "I want you to resolve your situation as soon as possible, for better or for worse. Ideally, the transfer done, is resolved in 48 hours. I need something Time to find a replacement. "

The media yesterday took a flight from Liverpool to Madrid and then go to San Sebastian, and three days to go there on vacation with his family. The reds will not return to training until next Thursday.

The contacts between Madrid and Liverpool were picked yesterday. The white body had already made an offer of 27 million euros sent by fax and had no response. That was before that Xabi Alonso would join the work in Liverpool, in Vienna, on July 19. As reported by AS, the player has already made it to your technical decision: "I want to go to Madrid yes or yes." After that, during the Asian tour (in Thailand) both sat down to talk and Rafa Benitez gave a free hand: "I'm going to stay on the sidelines. I will not be an obstacle to your departure." Finally, yesterday, he urged that the transfer is made the sooner the better.
Purslow.

Madrid is now that you have to move on and be with Liverpool. Christian Purslow, the executive director of the reds, he is obliged to accept the offer by the economic difficulties facing the British institution. As the player believes that if Real Madrid had offered 27 million and were not sufficient, the agreement could be settled in a little over 30 target.

Xabi Alonso has handled the situation masterfully. Has moved away from radical positions, as declared in default, and has chosen not to make high-sounding statements or the place. Madrid also appreciated about him, according to sources told AS sports management white: "It is a full player, club, just what we need." Signed for four years and will pay a one step lower than the galactic.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

well we'll see what happens and if it turns out to be rubbish (anita's rumour) we'll all laugh together

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

If it's true that Real have made an offer that is even lower than the last one, then Rafa should tell them to fuck off!!
Whats the point in negotiating when the other club clearly is nowhere near our valuation. 3 weeks to the PL starts, it's time to reject it ones and for all.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

According to Spanish newspapers Xabi has travelled to Madrid, and Rafa has given him 48 hours to complete a deal. Don't know how credible it is, but... He doesn't have to report back for training until thursday.

Rafa wants everything rapped up as soon as possible. Purslow will handle the negotiations from our side.

looks like anita's rumour isn't so far fetched after all, if the first part happens (xabi being sold) let's see if the second part pans out.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Just seen him on the front of Marca, which is an atrocious rag by the way, coming out of Madrid airport looking really smug.

Good riddance, you twat, now lets start thinking about replacements.

I despise Madrid. Perez was even quoted this morning slagging us off for doubling our fee from last summer. Maybe you should have bought him then, you shower of cunts.

Please let us get them in the CL.

My fear is we fret and don't get a replacement soon and start the season with Stevie and Masher as our only experienced midfield.

I like cake, therefore the nonsense I spouted yesterday be true!!!

The fact that Alonso may well be sold doesn't really prove anything now does it. Haven't we had 100+ pages of wondering whether that would in fact happen? It's looked fairly likely he'd be gone the whole summer, yet if yesterday I posted that he was going due to the fact that he had contracted the rarest of all pathologies - twitchius hamannius - and he needed a drier climate to cure his ills, apparently I'd be vindicated, because he might be possibly being sold right now!

If Alonso has spent the last many days saying I want to go I want to go, but I won't put in a transfer request, Rafa may well sell him, but nothing that's happened this summer suggests that Rafa wanted to sell him without having Barry.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I think I'd rather put Gerrard back into midfield and buy a top striker to partner Torres than try and find a suitable replacment for Alonso.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Real Madrid could be ready to walk away from a deal to sign Xabi Alonso after Florentino Perez, their president, claimed Liverpool's valuation of the Spanish midfielder "does not correspond to reality".

Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager, is refusing to lower his £32 million asking price for the Spain international despite the long-running saga threatening to overshadow preparations for the start of the new season. However, Perez insists that despite his club's massive outlay on Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka this summer, they will not pay over the odds for anyone.

"Some people obviously thought that because we said we wanted more Spanish players, they could ask for fees which don't correspond to reality," Perez said.

"A year ago, certain players we've asked about would have cost less than half the price we're being quoted now. If necessary, we'll find the Spanish players we would like for the squad in our youth system."

Get to fuck then.

I wouldn't. gerrard is the best forward we have and plays in a position where he can do most damage. dropping him back into midfield will curtail his goal threat as the center of midfield comes with responsibility.

having said that for home games we could worse that gerrard/masher in midfield with yossi as the forward. obviously in an ideal world alonso would render both options irrelavent.

I'd rather just keep it as it is and go for a more mobile central midfielder who'll weigh in with the few goals that have been sorely missing from that area of the side..

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Well exactly. Alonso has been a big part of the way we play for 5 seasons and replacing him will mean a transitional period. At least with Gerrard we know what we're getting, especially as the vast majority of teams in the league are shite.

Buy a top 2nd striker I say.
