The incredible Xabi Alonso thread 2009.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Madrid’s sporting director Miguel Pardeza who brokered Madrid’s multi-million pound deals this summer was quoted:

“It’s at a standstill. From day one, Liverpool have asked for more than Madrid are ready to pay and it’s very difficult to understand.

But I’ve not lost hope that things can be resolved.â€

Not sure if this is an old quite from Pardeza but what does he expect we don't really want to sell him!!! Therefore the way round it is state a figure higher than they want to pay. Clueless it seems!!

we're only doing to madrid what villa did to us, i just hope the end result isn't the same.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Wilko is making a fearsome bellend of himself here, without much prompting from others.

In case you've missed it - We're only allowed to buy Europeans, preferably Scandanavians, from now on. Those South Americans end up getting all homesick, and they're shit anyway.

Imagine we'd gone down the South-American route a bit harder over the years, we'd have ended up with a whole host of whingeing Aguero's, Messi's, and Tevez's - each one of them homesick to fuck. Thankfully we escaped that Tornado, and got Nunez, Cheyrou, Josemi, Diarra, Traore, and all those other 'hardened' Europeans.

Real Madrid need funds but are struggling to sell players
• 'Door to more signings closed' until players leave
• We are in a difficult market, says Jorge Valdano

Real Madrid are in need of funds to finance more signings but are finding it difficult to sell several players in a tough market, according to their director general.

"We are constantly working on the sale of players and the door to more signings will remain closed until players leave," Jorge Valdano said today.

The Spanish club, who have spent more than €200m (£172m) on four players this summer, are still looking for a central midfielder and a defender, but Valdano said they have been hampered by trading conditions.

"We are in a difficult market and we will work until the very last minute to offload the players that are not in the coach's plans," he said.

Real's attempt to sell their Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to the Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart for a reported fee of around €18m collapsed today. They are also looking to sell Huntelaar's compatriots Ruud van Nistelrooy and Royston Drenthe and the Mali midfielder Mahamadou Diarra, among others.

"In some cases they [the players] are resisting and in others there are no offers," the Real sporting director Miguel Pardeza said today. "The sale operation may seem simple but it's not. It's not easy convincing them to leave Real Madrid for what is generally a lesser team," he told the Spanish daily Público.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I'd much rather Xabi stayed, but if he wants out I wouldnt be too upset at 22 million euros + Huntelaar.

We won't sign Huntelaar mate.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Dossena won't be leaving... he's been handed the coveted #38 shirt so he's obviously highly thought of at the club.

As for Alonso, this really is going to drag on isn't it!?! Hopefully Rafa gets to the point where he feels he doesn't have enough time to sign a suitable replacement (like one exists) and tells Madrid that he's not for sale at any price. I want him in our side this season.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

What the fuck is Valdano on about with his "tough market" ?

Surely he doesn't expect top dollar for a load of players that everyone knows has no future with Madrid ?

They must be gutted about Huntelaar turning Stuttgart down. 18M was a fantastic money-back deal.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

They're avoiding eye contact, this is the strongest indication we've had to date that Alonso is definitely leaving.

Blame it on the Rafa.
