Has Xabi gone bulimic (or anorexic...same firm)?

They all look a bit thin, but Xabi looks weedy there

RAFA: XABI SHOULD STAY AT LIVERPOOL
Paul Eaton in Singapore 25 July 2009

Rafa Benitez today revealed he has told Xabi Alonso that he should stay at Liverpool.
Alonso received a rapturous ovation from the Singapore fans as he watched the Reds train on Friday night.

"I was talking to him yesterday and telling him to listen to the fans. They love Xabi," Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I said to him, 'Maybe you have to stay.'

"You can see he is a really good player and I'll be really pleased if he stays. All the players and his teammates want him to stay. If we keep Xabi I will be very pleased."

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

if this drags on much longer we should real's offer whether they stump up the money or not as we wont be able to get in players as we'll have no time.

What the player wants means nothing if the clubs don't agree a fee. Xabi should get his head together and recognise what he has here, or he'll end up as just another statistic in Madrid's revolving door policy.

Xabi Alonso blasts fake injury claim
Jul 25 2009 by James Pearce, Daily Post

XABI ALONSO has denied accusations he feigned injury to avoid playing against Thailand.

The Liverpool midfielder (right) missed the midweek match in Bangkok, with some media reports

suggesting he didn’t want to risk picking up a knock which could scupper a possible move to Real Madrid.

However, despite the ongoing uncertainty over his future, Alonso insists he is still fully committed to the Reds’ pre-season build-up and has declared himself fit for today’s clash with Singapore.

“I would never fake an injury not to play,†he said yesterday. “I hurt my ankle in training but it is much better now. I trained on Thursday evening and again today.

“Now I hope to play in the game on Sunday. I am certainly training for that but whether I will play or not you will need to ask Rafa.â€

Reports that Alonso would be flying home early to conclude a £30m transfer were also wide of the mark.

“I will be here with the squad until the end of the tour,†he added.

Alonso believes Liverpool will have to reach the 90-point mark next season if they are going to end their long wait to bring the title back to Anfield.

The Reds picked up 86 last season – a club record in the Premier League – but still finished four adrift of Manchester United.

“It is very difficult to win the Premier League but if we do things better than last season then we will have a good chance,†he said.

“We did really well against the top four teams last season but we drew too many games at home against other clubs which meant we weren’t in a strong position going into the last few matches.

“This season we have to be looking to get up to 90 points. If we’re able to continue to progress then we will have a good chance. We certainly have the belief.â€

Maybe I am reading too much into Xabi talking about "we" in terms of next seasons title challenge but it might be that he thinks that there is a stronger chance that he will remain at Liverpool for at least another season.

Paul Eaton should blow his nose. Have you ever heard him? No wonder Rafa often looks so bewildered during those interviews.

I think you are Count, Xabi has shown how media savvy he is. He is quizzed on our chances for next season and he is still our player, I would expect nothing else.

His mind is still elsewhere I suspect.

Maybe you are right. It just seems to me that it is the first time in a while that he has talked in terms of playing for Liverpool next season. Time will tell I suppose.
Ultimately it is Anita I feel sorry for, she is going to be addicted to mogodon by summer's end 😉

I also suspect that Madrid are eager for Alonso to make alot more waves - that would help force our hand.

Hopefully the worm is turning - it may not be as easy now for Xabi being in the squad and playing in front of fans. It seems he would really have to burn bridges if he is to go for it, I doubt he can manouvre a move subtely.................which could be good for us.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Rafa Benitez is right to get all Godfather with Real Madrid over Xabi Alonso

By Brian Reade 25/07/2009

Real Madrid's sporting director Miguel Pardeza is livid.

He "cannot understand" why Liverpool are asking £35million or "more than we are willing to pay" for Xavi Alonso.

Well, it might just be that Alonso has years left on his contract. Or that Real have distorted transfer fees out of all proportion, are desperate to sign a top Spanish player and Pardeza himself admits there is no one else on the market with Alonso's playmaking skills.

But I'd like to think Rafa Benitez might deliver Senator Pat Geary's speech from Godfather II, when Michael Corleone asked why his family should have to pay more than they want to in a deal.

Advertisement - article continues below »

"Because I intend to squeeze you. I don't like your kind of people. I don't like to see you come here with your oily hair, dressed up in those silk suits, trying to pass yourselves off as decent. I'll do business with you, but the fact is I despise your masquerade, the dishonest way you pose yourself and your whole freakin' family."

If so, he'll speak for everyone in football.

Superb stuff. Real are so far up themselves, it's unreal. They are genuinely amazed that we've had the cheek not to accept any old deal they tried to palm off on us. Well, go fuck yourselves, senores, and slip those bastard agents a length too while you're at it.

I think people who have the bare faced cheek to come out with shit like that gobshite from Real has, and keep a straight face, should be shot. Right between the eyes.

was a genuine question, I couldn't remember our take when MON was fighting tooth and nail to keep the player he clearly wanted.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I don't think he said anything. MON was so paranoid after that one leaked comment from Rafa that Rafa avoided commenting (whilst MON continued to claim Rafa was always talking). MON was hopelessly out of control then. I'd sympathised with him when Houllier seemed to go crazy about him being linked to the club, but maybe MON brings that out in people.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Clearly Madrid's negotiation team never heard of a 'poker face'.

'We dont really want Xabi, but we will give you 27mln for him as he is Spanish and would help bring our homegrown numbers up"

No, what they say is;

"Alonso is one of the few players in the world that can link up play. We cant move on because there are not may other options."
clearly they have identified a rare resource so economics say the price goes up, right ?

"We cannot understand why Liverpool wont accept our offer, their valuation is too high"

They should be sacked by Madrid !
