The Derby: Pre-match

I'd like to see us occasionally play Moreno further up as a genuine winger on occasion.

I think it's an awful idea to put that much pressure on Sterling by asking him to lead the line, especially as he's coming off a rough performance.

On mobile, so I figured this would look a bit nicer.

Coutinho is usually up for these sorts of games, which makes it hard to leave him out of the side.

I have seen a few team comparisons of either player for player or who would make a combined 11 out of both teams today. Every single one was about 7 to 4 in Everton's favour. I am confused. Not posting any links as you all seem an angry argumentative bunch at the moment. It is best you don't see it.

I dreamt we were winning 1 nil at half time, only for Everton to win 2-1. A mate of mine also dreamt of the same scoreline. Another friend walked past two lads playing the new FIFA in Asda, Liverpool were winning 1-0, then when he came back Everton were leading 2-1.

The fact that in my dream Baros scored and Van Persie partnered him for Liverpool as well as there being a huge brawl resulting in both teams being reduced to 8 men, in addition to my mate dreaming that the game was played over two legs in Sefton Park, is irrelevant. We're going to lose 2-1

Hmmm Curious. Couple of quick questions for you Mark

Why no Balloteli?

Do you not think Enrique warrents a start considering how well (imo) he played in midweek?

Sterling leading the line? Is that his best position?

Suso - A bit soon to be whacking him straight in the first XI you think? One swallow does not a summer make - And all that.

I just think Mario's lazy mate, and he's got history with his temperament, so this might not be the right game for him. I get the feeling he'd either be lazy as fuck and piss everyone off, or do something stupid. I do like him btw, but I just don't think he's right for us, not all the time anyway.

Also the idea with Sterling was that he'll play on the shoulder and keep their defense from pressing us, because they'll be wary of him getting in behind. With Lallana, Coutinho and Suso, it gives us plenty of ammunition to play in behind, with (hopefully) the option of putting Sturridge in there later in the game.

Enrique could warrant a start, I like him, but I like Moreno too and Enrique just completed a big game after a lengthy lay off, he'll take time to get upto speed.

As for Suso, why not? He's always bright when he plays, he's looked good since preseason and is doing something the rest of our midfield isn't - finding the target.

The lad looks like he thrives on pressure, he's a threat and our top goal scorer, so it's not that *awful* an idea, he's scoring goals. And what "rough" performance? Because he made one error?

Were they from Everton fans by any chance??

Regarding a rough performance, I'm solely going off the reports of others, which basically said he was pretty mediocre and had a few horrible moments.

If there's ever a player that thrives on pressure as you say though, it's probably Balotelli. And having a physical presence somewhere in the attack against Everton is a must, or we will really struggle.

Lovren Skrtel is a bad pairing to match up against a player like Lukaku for me, I think you need to have Sakho in there for the battles with him.

Either way though, I'm not comfortable with making Sterling the main man anytime soon, especially when we have other options. I have more confidence in us winning with Balotelli opening up space for Sterling than Sterling opening up space for Suso/Coutinho.

Henderson simply isn't the right player to play the holding role for us IMO, he's wasted there. And while I like the idea of Lallana at CM, I'd only play Gerrard alongside him if Lucas was the holding option, as he at least has the positional sense for the role.

And as far as temperament goes, wasn't Sterling almost sent off in the first derby last year? I'm not calling Sterling a hothead here so much as I'm saying that any player could lose their cool, so playing it safe is folly. Especially given our form.

I'm not diagreeing with your choices. Bold for sure and a little left of centre. I like this. Thing is Mario is our main striker and we need something up top. I've been surprised by Borini. I thought he was pretty much useless but am happy to have been proved wrong. I would still pick Mario over him though. Maybe play both? Suso is a good call also. He played very well and was rightly lauded by BR in the presser. It's about finding a balance I guess.

Moreno also is a very pleasing addition. I'm not bothered if he picks him over Enrique. Sterling up top would be a mistake imo. He plays so much better when he runs into space and pulls defenders all over the place. Perfect for Mario to exploit I would have thought. Not forgetting we are still a work in progress. One thing is for sure Lucas should be nowhere near the team.

Keeping the heat off sterling is important. The less he gets bigged up the better, he gets 3 men on him every attack at the moment

It is a terrible idea Mark. We do not want a striker that is about 5 foot 5 holding the ball up and playing others in against Everton. I feel that we could use him better.

Who says he is going to be asked to do that? If Sterling ever plays up front on his own for us, he will pretty much be a false nine. Like Messi. He is gravitating towards that role anyway. The question is whether he is ready to be as clinical as this role will require him to be.

I'd like sterling and Balo up front with Lallana behind them. Thats plenty to keep them under pressure, which is what we are desperately missing from last season. Yeh I know Balo doesn't run all day like SuareZ, but he's a real handful, presence and goal threat, and with the guile and industry of those two behind him, it'll keep them on the back foot.

We're certainly going to concede, so we really need to get offensive, without complacency, obviously.

I just think the best way we've done them in recent years is with pace and quick passing in attack, Balo would give them a more comfortable game in terms of the type of player he is, holding it up and using his strength and power, I'm sure they'd rather face that, than three whippets zipping around their back line, turning them inside out.

I'd love to see sterling in a false nine position.

However, he's kinda got that problem Stevie had earlier in his career. He's easily our most effective player in about 3 other positions & as we don't currently have anyone else as good down the wing can't afford to move him, cos he'd be up there with not much service.

If we could clone sterling I'd have him at rb, rw, am, false nine & possibly lw!

I think we could get away with it while we have Suso, Coutinho and Lallana, who could all potentially play wide of him, with the ability to inter-change, cut inside, play through-balls, etc.

It's a bit of a lightweight attack, I'll admit, but sometimes you can have all the brute force in the World up there, but it can amount to fuck all.

Wont be able to watch the game. Have a bad feeling about this one and will be checking my phone constantly..

Ok, made myself busy this morning by going the next sale. Now I'm back I'm well into pre match tension territory.

At the 'just fast forward time & get the fuck on with we best these fuckers can't wait but nervous we best beat these fuckers why hasn't it fucking kicked off yet we best these fuckers' stage.

I think we will win, they are actually playing worse than us, 3-1. Fortunately for us Barkley is out because he would fucking destroy our midfield. At some point this season Im terrified somebody is going to embarrass the fuck out of Gerrard. If Stevie has another shite game today hes got to be dropped , pushing him upfront is a pipe dream he hasnt got the pace to be effective in that position and his passing is all over the place. Its DM or bench and hes one shite DM performance from being dropped I reckon
