The Curious Case of Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard is set to shock football on Friday by announcing he is leaving Liverpool in the summer with Los Angeles Galaxy favourites to sign him.

The 34-year-old Liverpool captain is expected to sensationally turn his back on his only club to build a new career in MLS.

Gerrard is in the last six months of his contract at Anfield and was free to consider offers from abroad from New Year’s Day.

Liverpool have offered Gerrard a new contract and manager Brendan Rodgers was confident he would extend his 17-year association with the club.

But once it became clear Gerrard had not immediately accepted the new terms being offered by Liverpool a number of clubs made their move.

LA Galaxy, David Beckham’s former club, appear to have stepped in and beaten off MLS rivals New York Red Bulls to make a marquee signing which is bound to lift the status of the league.

Several European clubs were also said to be interested in signing the midfielder and at one stage it appeared he would take stock of all the offers and his future role at Anfield before committing to a deal.

Gerrard, who scored two penalties on Thursday in Liverpool’s 2-2 home draw against bottom club Leicester City, has been the backbone of the club and the Kop will be stunned by the news.

Just seing him on Match of the day whilst you'll never walk alone was gutting.

Its a shame he's off. It will be a sad day when he waves his goodbyes to the Kop.
Best player I've ever seen play for us. Some of the shit people write about him is embarrassing to say the least.

Hope he returns in some capacity for the club after he hangs up his boots.

Wolands comments are also very interesting mind.
What did Woland say?

I always though, stupidly, naively, hopefully that just as Robson had done Stevie would get to lift the title trophy above his head before he left.
He deserved it.
We deserved it.
Sometimes life is not so sweet I guess.

He makes Giggs look lovely. Wait till it all comes out.

Next you will be revealing that some footballers are cunts.
Don't you realise that they are judged on their footballing abilities rather than their personality.
He never came across as a bag of laughs and good company and did seem to be self absorbed but he has still carried the club for the past fifteen years
You have been more than happy in the past to have a go at the abilities of players who seem to be actually decent people.

Legend. Shame that a lot of other clubs fans will remember him for the slip. That PL title would have been great for him. [emoji20]

Alright.... maybe Gerrard was at Rodgers wife, causing the divorce.....

... Or....

Maybe Gerrard likes dressing up as a middle aged women & lured Rodgers to one of his vacant flats for weird sexy timr - which he now rents to Rodgers.

Indeed. And he signed for a US club before heading there almost straight away didn't he?

Hmmmm. I wonder.....

He signed for the American club owned by City though.

He was offered a shirt term contract for the Australian team owned by City & choose to stay at home rather than travel.

Sad day but he knows himself whats best for his career and his family at this stage. A true legend, not in the moderns sense that everybody who scores a goal is a legend for a week, but a heroine hero whose name will always be synonymous with Liverpool FC. Respect for announcing it rather than letting it drag out and create another dark cloud over the club.

It will never feel right to see him in another clubs jersey bit if he feels he wants to play on away from the glare of the British press and leave the bad memories of last season behind him then fair enough. Its the right move at the right time.
