The Curious Case of Steven Gerrard

On current form there is no way Gerrard should start in place of Coutinho or lallana and I don't think hes mobile enough at DM. He should be benched until such time as an opening in the team occurs. This business of figuring out how to shoehorn him into the side needs to be dropped asap. He either plays one of the attacking positions on merit or hes on the bench.

---------Sturridge--------
Coutinho--Sterling--Lallana (all swapping places throughout)
---Lucas---Henderson---
--Moreno--Can--Skrtel--Flanagan
--------New Goalie--------

Is what I'm waiting to see.

Really sad sight today to see a once great player decline so quickly. He had an absolute shocker in that
second half, not for the first time this season. Is it a poor run of form or can we accommodate him elsewhere on the pitch because he is going to cost us at dm?

Should not have started against Leicester..

Why change a winning formula.. ?

BR needs to grow a pair and bench him if he wants to take this club forward .

Load of fucking cunt today. Gutless and cowardly. Terrified to put a tackle in unless it was a "full blooded" tackle. Didn't press. Wasteful with possession.

If Rodgers had the balls to drop Carra - then he should do the same for Gerrard. We cannot play Rodgers' preferred high pressing game with Gerrard. Sorry, doesn't work. Yes, we played really well against Spurs with him playing. He's a detriment to our team ... and it saddens me to say this, but we are a far harder team to play against without him in the middle ...

For a manager who picks on form more than I've seen in recent years, it is amazing how he just ignores that to put Stevie in. He should have been rested for this one and starting against Wimbledon.

He's an option for playing further forward, perhaps as an impact sub. What he isn't, and never has been, is a DM. That *may* have been worth a try to start with, but it never worked and should have been binned rapido. Rodgers' insistence on sticking with it this season is a major error of judgment and could cost him his job if we don't make the CL spots by the end of the season.

I don't really think Rodgers has ever said Gerrard is a DM, from memory, he said he's more of a deep lying play maker. The assumption that he's in front of the back 4 or 3 and therefore he's in the defensive position.

The issue with this is that Gerrard then becomes a luxury player, and it's great when the team is attacking, but the team is effectively a man down when defending. We now have Lallana and Coutinho that are the play makers of the team so you need the stability of Lucas and Henderson to allow them to perform.

To me, he has to be an impact sub, someone that can change the game when Lallana and/or Coutinho are being ineffective.

Good ol Steven, didn't disappoint today, put in the usual performance of pinging hollywood balls at nearly every opportunity (and over hitting them), leaving tackles, leaving runners, then skying the odd shot. He did add 2 goals to his tally though, those tricky penalty things.

So I haven't seen tis mentioned anywhere else so I'm guessing no-one had the same commentators I did .... where one of them said that Rodgers had told Gerrard he could look for a new club ? I'm sure I didn't dream it.

I half heard the commentator say something like that on my stream prematch, but didn't catch the entire comment.

Rodgers said Gerrard is entitled to look for a move if he wants to

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has “earned the right” to discuss his future with any club he wishes, says his manager Brendan Rodgers.
Gerrard is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a rival club as of Thursday because of a contract impasse.
The 34-year-old was offered a new deal by his club in November – much later than he had expected – and has been delaying a decision since as he has assessed whether to end a 25-year association with Anfield.
Rodgers will give Gerrard as much time as he needs. “I have got a great relationship and communication with Steven so we understand exactly the position,” he said. “I think he has earned that respect if he does [talk to anyone].”

Lampard stays at City, Gerrard signs for New York City and everyone wins.

At this rate there'll be no players with songs worth singing about at the club next year.

@PeterPhillips_: Looking like it is LA Galaxy for Stevie Gerrard ....Best of luck to LFC's greatest ever player ⚽

Everything ends badly, otherwise it wouldn't end.
