I think even the most ardent supporter will concede we need at least one new keeper in the summer, but what's everyone's thoughts on our #3 currently on loan at high flying Huddersfield?

3 Caps
35 Games this season in the Championship
41 Goals conceded
9 clean sheets

Huddersfield weren't fancied at the start of the season, and they aren't exactly banging the goals in for fun.

Myself personally, I'd like to see him given a chance as #1 next season. He can't be any worse than Ming or Karius. But those are famous last words and I could be left eating humble pie.

Does anyone else share this sentiment?

He's certainly save money to be spent on other needed players around the back line.

True - I think he could be a good goalkeeper if I'm honest, there have been nothing but good words from fans of Aberdeen and Huddersfield about his ability. I'm a sucker from promoting from within too.
 
Joe hart or butland.

Spend the best part of £20m on a keeper who wont need a season to adapt and has proven quality at this level

Oh yeah, me too. Truth be told I've no idea whether Ward would be good enough for us, but I have a tendency to assume that all of our youth players are automatically going to be world class.

I'd say give him the no. 2 slot but then he'd never play, unless he's number two to Ming or Karius and they continue their questionable form.

Hart is not an upgrade on what we have got - Great shot stopper, prone to erratic errors.

Butland has been out for a year, there is no guarantee he'll not need a period of time to adjust. I do think he's a top notch keeper though.

Ward has been playing for a full season, and he's doing pretty darn well, Heaton is another who'd be an upgrade on what we have.
 
Big N O to Hart. Not an upgrade on what we already have and will cost a shitload in wages + fee.
 
Ward reminds me of Hart in the sense that he's always been up himself. Cocky little git. But he's improved much more than I thought he would, so the loans, for once, have actually paid off. Butland would be a much better buy, though.
 
We shouldn't push our luck, and just cash in on him now whilst his value is relatively high.

Butland, maybe and that's because not much has been seen of him lately. But Hart? Take off the nationalistic lenses and you'll see he's no [significant] upgrade on what we have.
 
So , nobody thinks Hart is an upgrade on Mignolet ?

I couldn't disagree more. I think he's infinitely better in just about every criteria a keeper can be marked on

Well, he's no improvement in terms of his propensity for stupid mistakes. If anything, he's worse, and he's made some howlers for Torino this season.

No he's not an upgrade, just watching him at Euro 2016 would have told you that. Only thing he's better as is marketability.
 
I don't think we'll be buying a new keeper in the summer. Hope to be pleasantly surprised though (but not with Hart).
 
Do people actually think Klopp's going to spend big on a replacement for Mignolet or Karius this summer?
 
We won't be.

I'm gonna stick my neck out here (& will probably get my head chopped off next season for it), but I think Karius will become a top class keeper.

Unlike most others, I don't think his problems are insurmountable, not by any means, & I think a lot of them are due to adjusting to a slightly different league & more aggressive attacking style.

I'm backing him to come good.

Although I should say, my record backing keepers is fucking atrocious, I was utterly convinced David James was gonna be a top class keeper, & thought Friedel was brilliant too. Maybe I'm just good at predicting how good they'll be a few years after they leave us.

I still get shit over those two from my mates.

Friedel was good, I'm convinced Ward will be a good keeper. We always look to the Butlands and the Heatons of the league, I'm convinced Ward can be as good as the latter at least.

Based on what? He seemed to be doing well in the championship. But Ming came from Sunderland with experience in the top flight, so did Karius, both are however not good enough regardless.

Give Ward 2 seasons in the top flight out on loan. Then we can see where his level is.

Assuming you mean Heaton. He's had 2 seasons in the premier league now, neither season have you seen him being lambasted for a howler or two. Even at Sunderland where Ming was good at shot stopping, he had a howler in him.

Sending Ward out on loan again will do nothing for his confidence. He'll be 25/26 after that. It's probably now or never for him in my opinion.
 
I had forgotten about Ward since he left Aberdeen - but they have almost fallen apart since he left, which is a good sign for him! It is certainly useful for us if we want to get at least one of Mig or Karius off the books (most likely Mig i think)

Most of the mistakes from Karius have been spilling routine saves or catches, he has butter fingers and unless this is a lingering problem with his broken hand that can be fixed with rest then I can't see how he can ever become a top keeper.
