Pakistan beat the Aussies by 4 wickets, which means that they finish top of Group A. Who England play in the quarter-final hinges on the result of tomorrow's final Group B game. If India beat West Indies, England play Sri Lanka on their home turf of Colombo. If West Indies beat India, England play Pakistan in Dakha.

Pakistan bowl the Windies out for 112.
Afridi with 4-30 leading wicket taker in the tournament

Fantastic showing from the Pakistanis ... third lowest run total in WC history.

I wonder if they'll hit this target in < 20 overs.

Great game played by Pakistan.

So who's going through to the semi's with them?

Aussies v India
Sri Lanka V England & Wales
NZ v South Africa

I'll go for India, Sri Lanka and SA.

I really hope that India knock out the Aussies to set up a mouth watering game with Pakistan.

Aussies/India is a coin flip really ... but I'd lean to what you said, despite having this awful feeling that South Africa will blow it against New Zealand ...

260 is considered to be a par score for that wicket, which is taking a lot of spin. The Indian run chase could turn out to be exciting.

I am supporting India, because having been whipped in the recent one-day series in Australia, England would be at a psychological disadvantage if they had to play the Aussies assuming they get past Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Michael Yardy has flown home suffering from a bad bout of depression. I was amused to hear Geoff Boycott interviewed about this on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning. He joked that Yardy must have been reading his match reports, because his bowling had been terrible and not up to this level of competition. He reflected that he had never suffered from depression like Yardy, but added that maybe this was because he was a much better player than Yardy. I find Boycott's egotism and total lack of sensitivity quite entertaining. ;D

Boyc's is one of my favourites too Portly, he always says it how it is.

India are trying their best to lose this. 3 crazy run out chances in the space of 5mins, the 3rd saw Gambir run out.

India need 90 off of 96 balls with 6 wickets left.

well played Yuvraj! after Dhoni's dismissal i was expecting a collapse. Raina played well as well - some fantastic shots!

Yuvraj for MoM

Cracker of a match next weds.

Once when I was a student (in the mid-70s) a group of us had just come out of the cinema and were walking back to college when this smart car came driving the wrong way up a one-way street, stopped beside us and asked for directions to the nearest steak bar. It was Boycs. Somebody pointed out that he'd need to turn round, but he never bothered. ;D

Australia's bowling attack was always going to be their downfall. Not one bowler last night took more than 1 wicket; thats just not good enough.

Ponting's knock was supreme. The look on his face of pure focus and concentration even after he'd reached his 100 was a testament to the man. One of the greats.

New Zealand were 221/8.

South Africa, in response, are 110/3 after 24 or so overs. Freak catch to get Amla out (went off the fielder's foot and in the air) and then a ridiculous catch by Oram to get Kallis out. I think we're going to choke again ... fuck's sake.

i think smith should lose his job as captain ... his bowling decisions early on were baffling (a bowler takes a wicket and doesn't bowl his next over etc).

His batting has been terrible this WC ...

It's disappointing as I thought we definitely had a chance here ... Best team, imo, since the best team after the reinstatement.

Oh well ...

As it stands mate it looks like you called this game spot on, i thought the SA's had far too much for the Kiwis (7 down now).

I'm not so sure i'd blame GS for this, i think he did a great job in the field. South Africas batsman have let their side down here.

Sadly there is more than a grain of truth in the Saffers' reputation. I staked £5 on it at 3/1 when the Kiwis were out for a measly 221. ;D

I do feel for you - must be very frustrating to see that good a team fail to produce the goods when it matters most. I felt that it would be a SA v India final. England's hopes definitely get a boost, though.

Good luck England. Sri Lanka at home is the hardest QF in my opinion, but the way this campaign has gone I would prefer us to be underdogs.

Should be a cracker, but if Sri Lanka prevail I like 'em anyway so I'd be happy for them or New Zealand to win the final.
