Team for Birmingham

If Sir Purple does not play at least 30 minutes, I give up. How long does he need to be fully training for until he gets minutes? This is our 2nd most expensive signing ever, and he is very important to give us some impetus. And he has not been given enough time to increase his match fitness. If a home game vs Brum is not gentle enough for him, we might as well fuck him off now.

I think the key is that Torres wants to play for Spain.
If Rafa prevented him from playing surely that would be poor man management!!!
Samuel Lee should fall down, trip up Rafael and make Rafael hit Torres, thus make Torres hurt and unable to go to Spain. That would be one and only time Samuel do any good for LFC. No need to thank girls, it free!

We're facing a right back crisis on monday. As both Kelly and Johnson are highley doubtful.

IF both are unavaileble, then is my team;

Reina

Mascher Skrtel Agger Insua

Kuyt Aquilani Lucas Benayoun

Torres N'Gog
That or Darby/Ayala.

Babel will be pants as always if he starts. Even after his goal on Wednesday, he was back to good old Babel immediately afterwards.

I'm done with Babel, a one off wonder strike can't fix it all.
I said I wasn't going to defend babel but I have to take issue with this, he scores a sensational goal, then takes a wayward freekick and then shots when maybe he should have passed it. are people expect a sub to come on and score a hattrick? we don't even place that expectation on people that START the game.
Sorry I only just noticed this.

Everyone has players that they have soft spots for, Spidey, and fair enough you have one for Babel.

But one goal, however good it was, isn't suddenly going to change everything over night, although I hope of course that I'm wrong and that it does. Babel has shown over the last two seasons that he's ineffective and unwilling to work to get into the team. And any given opportunity he's looking for the easy way out, an easy move back to Ajax rather than humble himself, pull his bottom lip up, shed some pounds and work for his place in the team. He's had isolated moments of quality before, I haven't seen then suddenly change his fortunes, so I see no reason why this time is any different.

I was so excited when we signed him, I really thought, like so many others, that he would develop into a world class player. Three years on, I've lost all patience with him, I can't make excuses for players who think their 'owed' a place in the starting 11, his silly raps and 'superstar' image only fuel my frustration further.

I'm tired of believing in him. I'm done.

If he becomes a world beater over night, which I hope he does, then his 'superstar' image is justified and I'll have time for him again. Until then he can jog on.

Absolutely SPOT ON.

That said I think it's a waste having Yossi at LM so :

Reina

Darby Skrtel Agger Insua

Mascher

Kuyt Aquilani Babel

Benayoun

Torres or N'Gog

I'd rather have a young specialist RB and Masher in his correct position than mess around moving Masher to RB.

Maybe start with Lucas in MF and bring Aquaman on for the last 30 mins.

Is right.

Although Lucas will start.

that's exactly how we'll start and hopefully aquilani does get 20 minutes.

we're stuck with babel until at least january so we might as well play him, especially with it looking likely that torres will be sidelined sooner or later.

i can't remember a time when we've had injuries like this

Well that's cheered me up anyway.

Rafael Benitez is hoping to have seven of his injured stars available for selection against Birmingham City on Monday night.
The boss will make a late decision on whether to start inspirational skipper Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres and he could also be boosted by the availability of Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel, Fabio Aurelio, Albert Riera and Nabil El Zhar.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpoolfc.tv, after Saturday morning's training session, Benitez said: "We have a lot of good news with players coming back from injury and they all took part in a light training session this morning.

"Steven trained on Friday with the physios and did a light training session today with the team and did well. He is improving and has more confidence.

"We will decide on Monday before the game if he can play. He hasn't been training for a long time so we have to be careful.

"With Fernando we know he has to keep working with the physios and we will see how he progresses. We will see how is he is because he still has some pain so we will decide if he can play on Monday.

"Johnson did a light session today and will train again on Sunday. If he is okay then hopefully he will be available to play against Birmingham.

"Martin Skrtel, Fabio Aurelio and Nabil El Zhar are doing well and were also involved in the training session so we will decide if they can play on Monday.

"Albert Riera also trained after his hamstring injury and that is good news for us.

"You can see we have had a lot of young players on the bench in recent weeks but we have more players back in training now. It's good for me and an option we didn't have available before."

Jamie Carragher will sit out this game as he serves a one-match ban for his sending-off against Fulham but Alberto Aquilani is in line for a first taste of the Anfield experience after he was an unused substitute in Lyon.

The Reds No.4 is unlikely to start against Alex McLeish's side but he is in the squad and the boss added: "His match fitness is still a problem.

"We are hopeful of having some players fit and available so maybe he can wait and change the game if it's necessary.

"We were controlling the game in Lyon and Lucas and Javier Mascherano were doing a very good job. When we scored we didn't want to change the shape. Aquilani was better after his virus and could have played some part but hopefully now he will be better for Monday."

Good news, potentially really good news. The bit about Aquilani is fuckin disgraceful though. Lucas and Masch controlling things in midfield, fair enouugh, but why the fuck didn't he bring him on for Voronin then! Plus he's saying the problem about Aquilani is that his match fitness is still a problem. Well Rafa, there's only one way you can do something about that!

Good news that Torres, Skrtel and Johnson has a chance of being fit. And maybe Stevie on the bench.

Maybe there is some light in the end of the tunnel.
I agree totally. The worst thing about it is we had a reserve game on Tuesday night, and being as we werent leading untill 5 mins remaining, he clearly didnt intend to play him at all, so leave him home to play reserve footie for an hour.
It seems crazy to me.
