That’s plausible, because if we did agree to sell Salah this summer, it would be definitely in our interest to keep this deal a secret for as long as possible so selling clubs don’t know we have that money in the pocket. Doesn’t matter for release clauses, but it would matter for future deals.

On the other side, if we did agree to sell Salah this summer, the news would have been leaked from some source by now. It is too big of a news to be kept secret. Similar to the "Investment is here but we are keeping it a secret as the price of players would increase" angle which we have been hearing since 2003.

There is a decent chance of PSG coming for him once they settle the MBappe saga. I agree that Salah moving to Saudi league at this age seems very unlikely. But at the same time, it will depend on money. I can see the Saudi's throwing the mother of all offers at him as he has legitimate claim to the greatest Arab footballer ever. If they are giving Kante 100 million per year, maybe 1/2 a billion per year for Salah or even higher?
I heard Kante is £100m over 4 years, £25m a year tax free. In Europe that's equivalent to £50m a year

Honestly, not too happy about the fee. I think we paid slightly above market value for him.

On the other hand, the lad is only 22 and proven in the Bundesliga. It also looks like he has the right physical attributes to be able to battle it out with the likes of Rodri, Casemiro etc.

6 goals and 8 assists two seasons in a row in the Bundesliga, I guess he's consistent. I'll be happy if he manages to get the same kind of production at LFC.

Our midfield is sorted for the upcoming season, I believe. There's been talk here about another DM, but I think it's a smart move to let Bajetic be the backup for Fabs.

Someone said something about having Hendo as a DM...nope, it's been tried before and he just isn't that type of ball winner.

Still think someone has got to go and the most likely candidate is Thiago, but I wouldn't mind it if we kept him around.
I still feel our midfield is lacking steel. Would have preferred Thuram to be honest as he looks like he could handle himself and I like how powers past players.

In the context of personal wealth of four billion, this is the equivalent of needing a new hoover and considering whether to pay a hundred quid now or a tenner a month for a year. A John Henry Hoover.

And having to sell your kettle to fund it…

Moron. Ever the glass half full eh!

Edit : Damn you The Count

ah @Frogfish - hope you are well,

I am very happy with this signing - but I know our owners, and despite this signing we are still short on numbers and quality, and this new guy along with Mac10 will be trained in the art of running like a dog and pressing to fit Klopp. For that reason alone we know he is going to get injuries. So I will be full pint if we sign another Midfielder - and it has to be Thuran fella - because of his size and pace, and potential strength. But right now - I would prefer the assurance of them owners of ours signing a defender who can start games if necessary - that is a MUST and has to be our next essential target. No kids or projects - a first team defender that can come in- we know of our current crop of defenders that 3 of them are very injury prone and the 4th (VVD) - is reaching that age where his constant availability maybe an issue this coming season.

The above aside - I want our new signing to be introduced in two forms:

1) with kit on,
2) with just his pants on ( no kit)

The guy is so good looking we need to maximize all his qualities - and with only pants on - I want us to be the goto club for all females across the world. I think we can make huge sums by doing commercials with him as the front face of LFC. I have no doubt - we really need to market him with those looks.

Hendo has definitely had a good spell at DM, i didn’t imagine that

Also - if we’re reconfiguring to a box midfield with double 8 & double 6 pivots - Hendo could likely fill one of the 6’s if need be.

What's with all the he's Salah's replacement talk about?? This geezer is a centre mid isn't he? Albeit an attacking one capable of playing further forward by the looks of it.
Selling Salah this summer would cause riots. Not happening.
He can play anywhere in the midfield and wings but predominantly been used as an attacking midfielder. You know.. the kind of position we haven't used since we sold Coutinho.

About £20 for my membership.

I think £45-50 mill would have been a fair price.
Paying £60m isn't far off.

And given the current market of Bellingham going for upto £114m, Rice £105m, Havertz £65m, Mount £60m (with one year left on his contract).

I'd say we've paid the market rate.

60m probably is too much yes but so was 70m for Alisson and Virgil at the time.

Chin up Modo lad this guy gonna be boss for us, it’s even in his name ffs!!!

What is it they say?
tvivlare till troende!!

Mount and Rice are English and moving between English clubs. It's expected.
Bellingham is about 2.5 years younger than Szoboszlai.
Havertz is somewhat comparable, but he's also moving between English clubs.

It's not Andy Carroll level bemusement. Just saying we didn't exactly get "a deal".

I think across Mac allister and szoboszlai we've done good business.

Mount's reported wages is 250k-300k per week. I am betting Rice will get atleast 250K at Arsenal. Soboszlai apparently has been offered around 150k per week. I do agree with you that we did not exactly get a bargain.

Edit: Just seen that Bild is reporting that Havertz is getting 330K per week at Arsenal.

When I click on the blue play button it is taking me to a twitter page with nothing other than "Something went wrong. Try reloading" message. But I am able to play the video which rurik posted in the general forum. Something wrong with my computer?

Considering he's English, and moved between English clubs, did we get a deal on Ox when we paid £35m?

Whether they are English or not, doesn't make their prices any better, as we saw with him & Carroll. And as United have seen with Maguire and AWB.

60m is par for course in this marketplace given his potential, current ability and contract length at RB.

Getting him for the prices (£40-50m) you stated would be getting "a deal", I agree. But we can't always rely on getting "a deal", to get the players we want/need.

If he turns out to be a great player for us, no one will care. If he turns out to be a flop, wouldn't matter if we paid 45m or 60m, imo, we'd have lost time and money.
