Valid point mate. I hate mentioning the race issue simply because it just makes things awkward. I desperately tried not to mention it with Rog as the thread shows. I gave him a couple of chances to retract his comment and made it very clear that I found it offensive. Now if I had simply kicked off and gone nuts at his first post then yes, your point would apply to me. But the fact that he knew I found it offensive and persisted is what makes this different. If you were to crack a joke at a coloured chap purely in jest, only to find that it caused offence, i'm sure you would apologise or retract the comment and the chap in question would maybe think nothing more of it. But if you persist in making such remarks in the knowledge that it's insulting towards him, that's different. It shows that you know your comment is racially based and is causing offence and that essentially, you don't give a shit, because that was what you intended. That's what happened this afternoon.

But there's a time and a place to 'fight' back I guess and on website forums, I generally don't get too fussed ... Ya know, just roll with it. It's happened once here where I thought something went a wee bit too far (out of pure innocence, he didn't know it was offensive) and I explained it to him in a PM and things are cool.

In real life though, I take to it totally differently ... Heck, it's one of the reasons I got to Israel.

I've only experienced it in England (while playing footy for a Jewish boarding school) and in University in New York (3,000 jews out of 10,000 student body). By far the worst was in NY ... Swastikas, mezuzot (parchment on the door) was thrown into toilets, 'Barak = Hitler' comments etc

My 'rents have told me nothing of anti-semitic activity in Turkey,Italy or South Africa.

I dunno mate - I've been a 'target' if you will for anti-semitic attacks in real life and a nice Jew slur by Evo (Roger) here, and I understand it and can relate to it (Though I have no idea what Onion Bhangees are, and hence why it was offensive).
