Sunday's other games...

The finish was poo but that aside, it was a good performance from Messi. His work rate was fantastic, he held onto the ball very well for them and maybe if he wasn't being kicked repeatedly by Real, might have had more joy.

Dunno mate, I expect more from him ... He's been nowhere close to his form from last year. I read somewhere earlier that it's attributed to his unhappiness with the way things are going for Argentina - but who knows.

Yeah, I think he was quoted as saying he needs a 'rest' as he's feeling fucked from all the football he's played and the stress that's come with it. Also, the miserable WC qualifying campaign seems to have taken it's toll on the Argie players. He hasn't quite hit the heights of last season yet, no.

Today he came back into the side after a spell out and for me was pretty good. The fact that everyone expects him to beat 5 players and win the game every time he gets the ball is a sign of the level he's set for himself - it's not easy to maintain.

Still, he has 7 goals in 8 league games. Not bad.

Zlatan if he continues this form will be a contender for the world player of the year next year. The lift he gave Barca when he came on was immense. The entire stadium was applauding his return.

Bit harsh on Xabi there, LTW. He has been quite until now for Madrid, but I thought he had a decent game today. If Ronaldo had scored from one of their counter attacks in the first half, it could have been different.

Yes, had Ronaldo scored on that chance Kaka created ...

I'm not being harsh on Xabi - he's been very average for them (and that's being nice with words).

What role does he play for the team? DM? Nope, that's Diarra (who doesn't seem that good the more I see of him). AM? Nope, that's Kaka and Ronaldo and whoever. The playmaker? Nope, Kaka take that role. What does he do for that team that made him worth 30 million to them?

Xabi may win more there and get more 'acclaim' from the Spanish media, but he will never be as able, in my opinion at least, to reach the heights he reached with us last year as a player ...

Kaka managed to play with Pirlo very well, so I guess that was the idea since Xabi isn't too dissimilar from the italian.

Er, deep-lying playmaker? *shrug*

It matters fuck all since no matter what heights he hits for them, he won't have the impact for Real that his absence is having on us.

Not watching it; but that would explain the huge roar from the all-night restaurant showing the game.

Considering the shop is 200 meters awy, it must have been some volley.

was it even shown here in Malaysia?

After the Gunners v Chelsea game, I channel surfed for a while and there was no games from Spain but there was a Genoa game!

Different league ole chap - and while I think Xabi is a phenomenal passer, Pirlo is in a different level and far more mobile on the ball ...

But it's a valid point ... I hope they are never as successful as Pirlo/Kaka were however!

At least Zlatan has now proved his doubters that he ACTUALLY can show up in the big games too.

World class player.

good point to be honest - he finally showed up when he had to ... he's almost there now (let's see him do it again! 😉)

In all seriousness, that is a huge goal for him ... If he can stay healthy, he should also break his knockout stage hex and probably cause RM headaches in the rematch

Stu doesn´t know that Zlatan is recovering from injury.

I doubt that many of Zlatans critics watch alot of his games actually....they just believe English tabloids.

Bollocks. I've seen a fair few of the guy's games over the years and, while he's shown what he can do in flashes, in the big games he's been disappointing far more often than not. It's got bugger all to do with the tabloids, which I don't read anyway.

He's been consistent in the league but yeah, too often disappointing in big games. He has been unfairly labelled as a shit player (exaggeration, sure, but the sentiment remains the same) on this site and others.

I, along with maybe one or two others, tended to stick up for him on here, whilst acknowledging the fact that he's got a ways to go in order to prove himself to those who doubted him before and to those who wondered whether he'd be able to fill the shoes of Mad Sammy.

Credit where credit is due, he's done that in style. He's really settled in at Barca - he's working hard to adapt his game, he's working hard for the team during games and I suppose most importantly, he's having a real impact.

Ok. You´re not included in "many" then. I understand your point (and I agree with it to some extent) but I won´t go into another discussion about Zlatan. Some people doesn´t rate him, some people do.

Ok - let's be honest here; every sane person should rate him as a very good footballer. He's racked up some fantastic goal tallies and you don't do that if you're shit. The debate should only be on 'how' good he really is ...

I stick by the fact that he's a fantastic talent but until he consistently scores the goals that beat the big teams, or in 'knock out' type games, he'll not be at the level of a Torres, or Drogba or Eto'o.

So...we just need to look at the statistics/match facts to see how good he is/when he is as good as Torres, Drogba or Etoó then. 😉
