Summer rebuild 2023

I agree that we had all we needed to get 4th. But we didn't have what we deserved.

How are you going to equip a team to scrape 4th and expect them to be motivated when every single fucking game was life or death last season.

Stupid performances and results against Leeds at home at Forest away are the 2 results that shouldn’t have happened and we’re the difference in scraping home to the top 4.

The key now is how much that impacts our budget for next season.

I’d say massively.

Our model requires we generate our own funds— no owner-injected funds here. We also pay tip wages, people seem to forget this when talking transfers. That means champions league football or selling players. Unfortunately, we’re holding onto players for too long and then letting them leave for free. Even the successful sales (Countinho and Mané) were reluctant ones. Keita and one of Fabinho or Oxlade Chamberlain should have gone last summer. I’d cash in on Fabinho this summer, too. I know about loyalty and all that but that’s one of the reasons why they’re paid such huge amounts.

Absent of sales and champions league football, we should be actively looking for good players that are under the radar— not Bellingham, Mount (sigh…),Caicedo etc who would in any case swallow up pretty much what we have to spare. In any case, are they really good value for money at a club like ours?

Heard on Twitter somewhere :

Liverpool are targeting 18 year old midfielder Arthur Vermeeren as a potential alternative to Ugarte and Lavia.

Liverpool also looking at Josip Šutalo, a defender that Arsenal has been chasing.

Is Arthur Vermeeran the right profile of player we need? he looks like a squad option and not first teamer, I am going off Youtube clips... they're underwhelming. Also, its said Man U and I think the Arse are looking at him too

I thought you all wanted to be clever like Brighton not spend 70 million on these players three years later

As a squad option, yes... His physique for CDM doesn't give me much hope, but the kid is getting rave reviews

if we looking at players who aren't catching other large team eyes, then heres a list
Salis Abdul Samed, Yusuf Fofana, Mohammed Camara, Koopenmieners, Thuram, Kone and even Lavia. Hell, I'd even take a punt on Ndidi in the hope of reviving his career. If Klopp did sign I wouldn't be upset but I fear he might struggle with being muscled off the ball

Can you describe his physique to me?

Hmm I'm not sure Thuram, Kone and Lavia are the unknown gems you seem to think they are, Mr. Scout...
Are you going to suggest a cheeky 15m punt for Declan Rice next?

Sorry, I should have stopped at Koopenmieners. My mind went elsewhere... I'd love for us to sign Kone or Thuram but they're at the £50m plus mark. Koopenmieners is available for €30m as is Yusuf Fofana. Mohammed Camara and Salis Samed I think are available at around that figure. The Arthur kid just looks meek to me, but I could be totally wrong and he turns out to be a revelation... But as of right now he doesn't look ready for first team football but may be in 12 months. Not opposed to getting him though.

That's because we resigning Melo on a free contract, so not enough room for Carvalho.
Carvalho needs to bulk up, then he is competing.
We are getting Ali Mac according to Neil Jones, he also says we have strong intrest in Romeo Lavia.
However, Smackhead is starting in June, so I have no idea how much say he will have with new signings?

Various reports that Bellingham to Madrid will be announced early this week…

Reported 87m guaranteed plus up to 21m in add ons over a 6 year contract. Wages well below their top earners…
