Clever of FSG to release this news during international break. Gives everyone the chance to digest the news and maybe calm down. Potentially prevents riots at Anfield if this news was released during the regular season.

Years back, we'll be looking back on this and our subsequent purchase of Bellingham in the same way we do about giving up Anelka for Diouf.

Shocking really that we're going to make the same mistake twice.

BiBlueMoronVanomial’s head is about to explode.
Why? Its a tweet that actually says nothing. There are more than a dozen choices that they could go for in MF, the only two that give me the jitters are barella, will he adapt to the PL? And Mount, the price tag of £60m is just too high.

Mount's a quality player who if nothing else is generally ace against Madrid and I hate Madrid so much now that I'd probably sign him on that basis alone. I do think he's very good though; my only question is which of the sort of three midfield 'types' does he fit into? He's not a holding midfielder for a start; so would he be a RCM, more box to box? Or would he be converted into a deeper LCM who is more about progressing play?

I've never come across anyone who can really define Mount as a player or describe what it is he offers.

I'll give it a go. He's technically very gifted, good at passing, positionally very aware and can score goals. Keeps the ball well, finds space and makes good runs. He's probably not outstanding at any one thing but very effective and understands the game well. A sort of hybrid Gini/young James Milner.

For the right price, that sounds like a solid option.

He's also got a nasty side to him which may help get us through a transitional period ahead.

I agree - the only question is where he gets played. He's never really been played in a consistent position which isn't a surprise considering how often Chelsea change their managers. As a result he's kind of not quite anything at the moment - not really an attacking midfielder, not a deeper lying playmaker, not a number 10, not a wide midfielder etc. So I don't know where Klopp would play him. I suspect as the LCM, and maybe he's an alternative option to Nunes.

If Mount does come in, may be we could off load CJ. The kid isn't good enough. Being English, I reckon we can get upto £20m for him

So he's English, not quite anything, hasn't found a position, but has demonstrated that he can score goals and has technique.

He's an Ox replacement then?

You are going to have to find a better way of selling it than that…
Even in his prime, Mount doesn’t even know what he offers. We should focus on other options, we can’t afford anymore risks even if every transfer is a risk.

I think Mount has been hindered in his development by the manager merry go round at Chelsea. Its caused him to be moved around and not played in a position that suits him or his qualities.
He played his best football under Tuchel in a 3-4-2-1 formation and being one of the two AMs behind the striker. Double digits in both goals and assists last season. Really good and played 53 games as well so not in the Ox category.

If we are interested I'd be very curios to where Klopp sees him playing in our team before thinking it could be a good move.

He has played a bit for England and has been largely annon.
We play 3 upfront which is very different to Tuchel’s formations for Chelsea.

I'm OK with taking a risk on a CL level player in his prime years for zero transfer fee. So yes Rabiot may have a questionable attitude but it's a gamble worth taking IMO because we can't afford to fund 3 midfielders at £60m+.

Mount on the other hand is a good player and you could see him in a Klopp team but the fee quoted is way too expensive for a guy with 12 months left to run on his contract. His fee should be dropping by the day at this point.

You do realize we looked at Arthur and Rabiot and decided Arthur was the better bet.
