Suarez

I think most people though him and Jelavic would be massive last year ... and they just struggled ... Cisse has been very poor - especially with his Suarez-like attempt to get out of Newcastle, while Jelavic seems to be playing ok.

Pardew has Newcastle playing a crappier variation of Hodgson football with Cisse being the lone striker chasing lost causes. When they play two upfront it has been with Shola Ameobi.

He has been incredibly poor the last few months. However I think he is definitely worth a punt for less than 10 million.

Tick tock, tick tock ..... there just isn't time now. Sell and we're fucked for the CL places unless we get in a strong forward and a winger pronto.

You're definitely rational like most of us ...

I wonder who amongst us think we could use the $$$ generated by a Suarez sale within the next 8 days to buy 1-3 players to accommodate the loss his sale would create?

As long as we have done our homework, this should not prove a big challenge.

Can't we agree a deal with Madrid now for January, tell Suarez this and spend the next 4 months sounding out replacements?

He'll still be fine to play in the champions league. I loathe the thought of us rushing into any Andy Carroll deals at the last minute.

Exactly. If we sell now we'll get screwed over by clubs adding premium. Regardless of the morals that people are banging on about, we need to protect ourselves in the short and long term.

Or maybe we have agreed upon fees with one or more clubs already for our targets, and are just holding our horses with regards to the signature and bank wire?

Funny that those going about selling to restore some dignity blah blah, are the ones who moaned for 2yrs about Andy Carroll. We're already reduced to 3rd/4th choice targets as it is, without panic buying a player who will probably cost an extra £10m just because we have money to burn.

I don't buy that Kris, why would we publically humiliate ourselves over missed targets.

That depends. Have Rodgers been quoted saying that we have missed out on anyone? I mean yeah Henrikh seemed a very genuine target, but perhaps one meant only to come on should Suarez leave. Dortmund hadn't got time to wait however losing Götze.

From my knowledge of Henrikh and how Rodgers wants his team to play, he would've been used mainly as a forward in our team not an AM and I do firmly believe we are looking to add exactly this, an advanced playmaker.

Willian may or may not have been a genuine target, but once again this one seemed to stem mainly from the fact Anzhi threw a firesale. You may be right of course but at least until further evidence I will stay quietly optimistic about our dealings this window.

Hypothetically, if we sold Suarez but already had deals in place for Eriksen, Papa and Muriel, would people happily sell?
See ya, Suarez.

Yes - I think 99.73% of the site would be in favor. 0.05% would be against (Dreamy) and the rest wouldn't vote (0.22%)

I wouldn't countenance that. We'd still lack a proven striker. Right now we have the promising (but not time-served and fragile) Sturridge. We have the youthful and unconfident Borini. Muriel is a player with loads of promise, but that's it.

Did I imagine that MOTD said Suarez would be getting a new contract this week? You fucking what. Be a cunt all summer (to go with his other episodes of being a cunt) and get rewarded with a new contract?!?! One that obviously has a proper release clause in it?! Wtf. I'll give you a new contract you cunt - 50% pay cut, no pay when you're banned, 8yrs deal and a release clause of 100mill. Twat.

Well this is an about-face isn't it ? Considering how adamant you were just a few days ago :
Its not an about face of any kind but the stark reality of the transfer window. Henry is adamant that Suarez won't be sold and I don't think that he will be (at least not in this window).

Me on the other hand am not averse to selling him for the right price provided we significantly strengthen the starting line-up.

Firstly, the new link is probably bs and a way to get Spurs moving re Bale.

Secondly, we shouldnt sell unless we have a quality replacement lined up.
If we're talking Di Maria + cash for Suarez and we get Muriel then fine but if we're looking at 7 days of panicing they can fuck off.

Long term its obvious we're going to sell him and probably next summer.
Short term we have to keep him or our season is done before Christmas if the right injuries hit us.

Well, first of all it's just a rumour. Secondly, it's not necessarily one with more money, it's just one with presumably the release clause he wants, and what we should get is another year on it. That way we're both protected. If there's a clause for 50m, we know we'll get a good price for him next summer, and if not we'll get to keep one of the best players in the world for another year.

Rumors that Bale could finance all of Eriksen, Lamela and Hulk to White Hart Lane.

Let's do a reverse Spurs, copy their transfer plans, and do exactly this with the Suarez money.

Wouldn't it be sweet to beat Spurs to all of those targets.

There's no way Spurs will end up -£50M or more after Bale goes and their business is done, no chance.

Just as there's no chance on Suarez going (how many threads based on bullshit from twitter this summer?) this late in the day.

Too late for selling him this summer.
I can't believe we have his replacements nailed down and ready to sign, so we're looking at a week of panicking and eventually signing Moses at the final day of the window.

We should agree a deal for next summer and use that time for finding proper replacements.
