Surely we could use the money we got for Babelino to bridge the gap?
no, it's not enough, it's never enough when you have clubs like Ajax who think they can hold other clubs to ransom or hold out for more, more more

Greed and self-interest rules football

We should tell them to fuck off and wait until the summer where there is more choice and value.

This is the correct and logical position, anyone clamoring for a signing at any cost have a very short memory

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

I want them to spend every bean they've got getting us back to the top. In case you haven't noticed, that's how it works. I spend a massive amount following this side and I don't want yanks buying champagne with it, I want top players winning things.

There, I said it, somebody had to say it.

Problem is if we wait until the summer we might possibly invite more clubs into the bidding party.

so rebel, how's the penny pinching helped us so far?

we passed on simao because of a few million
we passed on alves because of a few million
we passed on vidic because of a few million (I think)
we saved a fortune in fees for voronin
we saved a fortune in fees for jove
and so on...
and so on...
and so on...
you don't seem to understand the intricacies of these deals or you underestimate the greed of those clubs

Even if you get to 25 million, Ajax then demand 30 million, watchagonnado?

Del Nido did the exact same thing with Alves, he was never going to sell him for less than 25 million and we were never going to pay that. Offering the imaginary few million more would have resulted in Del Nido asking for... a few million more, and so on and so on

There comes a point where you have to tell them to fuck off & move on.

Ajax are usually quite reasonable and i'm sure we can do business with them in the summer if they dont intend to fuck us around

absolutely, we can wallow in midtable mediocrity, but hey, at least we'll still have our integrity.

let them come in, the market sets the value. If he ends up going to a sugar daddy club who intend to blow their wad there is nothing we can do

we move on and find someone else

we must not be held to ransom or put in financial peril, simple as that

Reagan once said a few billion here and a few billion there, before you know it you're talking real money

a few million can make a massive difference

LFC should not be held to ransom or once again put in peril.

the summer window opens in 5 months, i would suggest they wait till then

Henry can go talk to the players personally if he wants to keep them informed
No one is being held to ransom.
They just want a fair price
If you asked me we tapped up the player

mid table is better than being bankrupt and bottom of the table

we should promote some youth or find other options

we're LFC, it will work out in the end as long as we dont put the club in peril again which is what you seemingly want

so (for the sake of argument) 5m is going to bankrupt us?

you don't know if the difference is 5 million or if we bridge that difference whether they will move the goalposts and fuck us around

there are too many unknowns, we're not on the inside, you'r speculating like everybody else

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

I think rebel is making a fair point. If Suarez is actually worth what they're asking why as nobody else come in and offered it? Why are we the only one in the running for him?

It's their prerogative to put whatever price they want on their player. If we lose out because of it it's down to no-one but us.

And the difference in vauation is equal to one Poulson unit.

Brilliant krump. You gave away yourself by using kacks though!

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

If the difference is 4 million it's pretty likely a deal will be reached.

I think the club will have learnt that when talks break off over a few million, the manager is likely to waste 3 times that buying and getting rid of shit players.

We let a striker go two years ago for £12m after paying £18m for him , and have never replaced him, we were short in that department even then, we have been badly affected by our options up front. A striker who we think fits the bill becomes available in January with what seems to be a value of £20m. If he is what Kenny thinks and a player we need it would be foolish in the extreme to miss out for a few million quid.

As for no other takers, Suarez has rather marginalised himself with his wish to join us, but someone could jump in and that is what we are worried about.

Anyway this is probably hypothetical as I think the deal is more or less done.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

We've missed so many players by being prudent though only to spend that difference in valuation on wages for a poor performer (bossie) or on a bargain buy like poulsen or dosenna. 4m gap means deal will be done. And the market prices are inflated so we will have to live with it.

Not only that - we released Alonso and masher And keane as well as crouch - with no replacements or equal investments in that position. If FSG are serious about winning that have to understand there is a certain amount of catching up to be done after over 2 years of stagnation on the player front

Yeah cos Simao would have solved our problems and they doubled the price AFTER we agreed the deal.

Conveniently forgetting the cases where we've been successful. You might be familiar with these names:
Torres
Reina
Johnson
Meireles
Alonso
Mascherano

Exactly. And if we're known as the kind of club that just agrees with other clubs valuations, all of those players would have cost more. As would the likes of Poulsen etc.

very good points but some of the targets we missed out due to not meeting the valueation of the player may well have cost us a league title as has certainly not allowed us to be stronger than we could have been. if the case of alves we passed on him and bought pennent. when you put it like that wouldn't it have been better to spend the money on proven quality?

you're obsessed with this despite not knowing the full facts of the case you've decided in your head we were only a few million away from nabbing him when in fact the evidence is we were alot further away as Del Nido wanted 20 odd million (we were bidding 8m) and them asking for a few million more was their own tactic to try and get us there and value their asset at a greater price
