Luis Suarez turned out for Liverpool this afternoon in a friendly against Port Vale at the Premier League club's Melwood training base.

The Uruguayan's future at Anfield has been the subject of much speculation this summer, with the player himself reportedly keen on either joining Arsenal or Spanish side Real Madrid.

However, Liverpool have retained the stance throughout that the 26-year-old is not for sale at any price.

The former Ajax striker recently returned to training, but he is unable to play a competitive fixture until the end of September for the Reds because he is still suspended for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic towards the end of last season.

That ban does not cover friendlies, though, and so he was included in the starting lineup alongside a number of the club's youngster against their League One counterparts.

Suarez found the net during the 2-2 draw, with Adam Morgan scoring the other Liverpool goal.

Liverpool fans rejoice: Luis Suarez is ready to don the red again, just as soon as his ban has finished.

The striker - who has wanted to leave Anfield all summer long - made his comeback in a friendly against Port Vale on Wednesday afternoon.

With a spring in his step, Suarez scored as Brendan Rodgers' side drew against the League One side at Melwood.

Fulham (a) May 12: Won 3-1
QPR (h) May 19: Won 1-0

Southampton (h): Sept 21
First game available: Capital One Cup third round (wk commencing Sept 23)

Arsenal have publicly courted the player since July but have admitted defeat in their quest to sign him.

The offer they believed to trigger a clause in Suarez's contract - £40,000,001 - wasn't enough to clinch a deal because of miscommunication between Liverpool, the 26-year-old and his agent, Pere Guardiola.

It is just over a month until the Uruguayan can start his Premier League season, with three games still remaining in his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

That is likely to come against Capital One Cup opposition at the end of September, where Suarez will be hoping to make up for lost time.

Rodgers watched on as the Merseysiders came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Micky Adams' outfit behind closed doors. Adam Morgan scored the other goal.

Despite the game supposedly closed off, there were - as is largely the case at Melwood - a couple who managed to sneak a peak at Suarez's performance, peering over the famous wired fence to catch a glimpse.

Rodgers had accused the FA of double standards and throwing Luis Suarez out with the ‘garbage’ back in April when he was handed the lengthy ban.

And he did not hold back, insisting the punishment was ‘not right’ and ‘too severe’.

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina went even further, saying it was ‘absurd, out of proportion and unfair’ and that the authorities had ‘got it in for Luis’.

Rodgers believed the three-person Independent Regulatory Committee that imposed the ban were prejudiced by the fact the FA had already announced they considered the offence worthy of more than a three-match ban.

Further to that, he claimed the FA’s disciplinary procedures were inconsistent and said he was mystified by the Prime Minister’s decision to enter the debate.

Rodgers said: ‘Luis has not let me down one bit. He is a player who fell well below the standards of this football club but that doesn’t mean he should be thrown to the garbage, which is what has happened from a lot of people these last few days.

‘I certainly won’t be prepared to do that. I don’t believe the sanction fits with what he did. There’s no doubt if you have those high-profile figures making those sorts of statements, there will be a bias.

‘It’s human nature. If you have people reading and listening to things, when they sit down to talk about it supposedly for the first time, people would argue whether they already had a decision in their minds. That process, for me, would need to change.'

Suarez's first Premier League match will be away at Sunderland on September 29.

We've not done too bad without him, I think we have a similar sort of record when Gerrard had been out. Maybe our key players being out makes the others step up to the plate and stop being lazy fuckers when they're there.
