Sturridge, Origi, Ings.

Are you kidding?

We have one proper quality striker and he's played less than 50% of the games he's been here for.

We need another out and out striker who scores goals

Goals & Assists (per MINUTES played : PL, EL, FAC, LC) 2015/16

Sturridge : 1,700 mins / 13 goals / 2 assists = goal per 130.76 mins (goal or assist every 113.33 mins).
Origi : 1,642mins / 10 goals / 2 assists = goal per 164.20 mins (goal or assist every 136.83 mins).
Ings : 508 mins / 3 goals / 0 assists = goal per 169.33 mins (goal or assist every 169.33 mins).
Benteke : 2,193 mins / 10 goals / 4 assists = goal per 219.30 mins (goal or assist every 156.64 mins).
Coutinho : 3,187 mins / 12 goals / 7 assists = goal per 265.58 mins (goal or assist every 167.37 mins).
Firmino : 3,327 mins / 11 goals / 9 assists = goal per 302.45 mins (goal or assist every 166.35 mins).
Lallana : 3,531 mins / 7 goals / 9 assists = goal per 504.42 mins (goal or assist every 220.68 mins).

And for interest :
Mane : 3,110 mins / 15 goals / 9 assists = goal per 207.33 mins (goal or assist every 129.58 mins).

N.B. PL & EL stats from Who Scored. FAC / LC / ELQ stats from opening all the match reports for teams / subs / goals and assists. If anyone knows a better source then please let me know for the future !

So where are you gonna play him when Studge is fit?
Bearing in mind if you tell Studge he's second choice he will no doubt leave.

With regards to his injury record, RVP wasn't exactly hewn from steel during his time at Arsenal, then he goes to Utd, stays fit and wins then the league.

Will be interesting to see how Studge's fitness holds out without as many midweek games.

My concern with Sturridge being the main man next season, apart from his injury record, is his propensity to keep dropping wide or dropping deep. We don't have midfielders - with the possible exception of Mane - who make direct runs into the penalty areas who could exploit any space made by a striker dropping deep. I don't know why Sturridge does it - trying to get on the ball more, trying to create things himself when the rest of the team isn't doing it? - but he needs to be more direct if he's going to score more, because last season his runs just added to the cluster of players outside the penalty area.

I'm pretty sure his scoring record was okay once he was fit last season tho.
Maybe the off axis runs are manager's instructions? Can't see Klopp letting him do whatever.

Yeah, he is a player who likes drifting all over the place to find some space. It is a good point to consider when looking at a lone striker formation and the function of that role.

In many ways, he is a bit like Suarez. You have 10 players in a more fixed formation and then allow one to just play where he wants.

It's also worth mentioning with Sturridge that he hasn't missed a game through injury in about 5 months now, maybe Klopps plan for him is working?

Good point. We've also heard no more regarding Sturridge's supposedly being unhappy about Klopp not accept his (Sturridge's) initial view that he was ready to return to the side. With Hodgson now buggering off from the England job, I'm also going to be less worried that they might stuff him up again.

I doubt that money would be a problem if Suarez is available even if he would cost around £80m. It would be a win win situation for FSG. How much more would the club be worth if we signed a player like Suarez? The value of the club would IMO increase with more than £80m.

IMO FSG is prepered to spend mega big money on the right player. The problem is to convince the player to join us, not money.
I fear the Suarez boat has sailed. Finding the next Suarez(or Stevie G for that matter) should be the plan. Fortunately there's already a thread for that... and lots of potential candidates 😉

I dont get why people are counting on Sturridge as our first choice.
He wont be fit.
He isnt going to suddenly find the balls to play through a broken nail.
We need Suarez......if you get what I mean. Sturridge was at his best when he had a Striker working his plums off for him.

I dont know who that is btw, I dont watch enough football, but we replaced Torres with Suarez, we replaced Owen with Torres, weve replaced Suarez with fuck all.

We 100% need a world class striker.

Sturridge plays much better with two up top, and all 3 of them have had injury problems. If theres someone good we can get I'd go all out

Definitely.

I suspect Klopp may be thinking pragmatically though. With us not being in the CL any striker we get now will almost certainly be not as good as whoever we could attract once in the CL, as such he may be thinking it's better to use the budget elsewhere this summer & stick with who we have for now.

I don't believe that boat have sailed. If Barcelona makes him available then he would turn down all other clubs and join us if we want him. The only thing that would stop a deal would be money or that he is family won't accept a move back to Liverpool. I doubt that we would turn down a deal down because of money. FSG would never turn down a chance to sign the best player on the planet. A player that is better than Messi/Ronaldo. Better sponsorship deals would also cover a big part of the cost. Our current sponsors would probably pay a part of the deal. That is what usually happen when a world class player change club. The club pay a part of the deal and the sponsors the rest.

When Bale/Ronaldo changed clubs sponsors payed a part of the deal

We may not sign him this summer but he will IMO join us sooner or later. He already won everything at Barcelona. Suarez is the type of player that put his family first. CL or no CL won't matter. He want new challenges.

Where does Götze slot in?

What is so special about Gotze ? - what do you guys see in him ?- I look at him and what comes to mind is Thomas Brolin the 2nd !!! - you can see that the guy will turn into a little chubby fat fucker in maybe 2 years time.

This isn't 1970. You can rotate the squad and depending on the game play both.

RVP is a stupid comparison.

This could easily be the shittest post ever made you massive fucking whooper.

Maybe a kiss of death, but good point. If by some miracle he stayed fit all of next season, he would make a massive difference to our fortunes.

I knew he reminded me of someone!

He's better than Brolin, but I'm not sold on the idea of signing him. He'd have been here by now if he really wanted the move and, if he doesn't, I don't either.

Definitely.

I don't see us getting back into the CL without one though! That's the big risk

How is it stupid?
He had a dodgy injury record and came good on a big way. What's to stop studge doing the same? Bearing in mind he's stated fit for a while now.

His injury record was nowhere near as poor as Daniel's, had none of the mental issues relating to fitness and he went to a team who had lost out on the title on goal difference with the last kick of the season.

They won the league the year before that at a canter by 9 pts and either won the title or finished second every year as far back as 2006.
RVP just added the finishing touch that season to a team that had dominated for a decade.

Our current team are a whole different ball game where finishing 5th would be seen as an improvement, so yes its a stupid argument.
