With Red Astaire's legend blitz I want to talk about a future legend. Daniel Sturridge. This guy is immense. It is fucked up that we have someone as excellent when we also have arguably one of the best strikers in the world alongside him. Interesting stat as regards his performance against top opposition:

11 goals; 3 assists in 15 matches against United; Arsenal; City; Tottenham; Everton and Chelsea

After his miss today I thought he'd get all nervous/anxious again like in the other game.
Well he goes and slots a cool, clinical shot in goal not long after.

He could break all goal scoring records at LFC if he sticks around and stays healthy.

I once read an interview with the Studge somewhere in which he himself acknowledged that it wasn't unreasonable for people to have had doubts about him before he arrived, so I'm not going to apologise for having been one of those people. What I am going to do, and enjoy doing, is say that he's blown my doubts (and surely everyone else's) away with his attitude and performance since he arrived. It's been an inspired signing.

Knew he would be good but this good? not a chance.

He has it all, if you are looking for a weakness then his headers maybe?

If I were to nit pick I think he can be a bit too selfish and I know that's a good quality in a striker but it can be infuriating as demonstrated by Suarez in the derby ( again I said "If I were to" ) but he has exceeded all expectations I had and I was expecting him to be good but this good ? Best strike partnership we've had since Collymore/God hopefully we can keep them together for many years to come

Why would someone ever sit on the bench for Chelsea again; look what happens when you come to a club like Liverpool who will play you.. Chelsea, and co look very silly for letting him go...and not playing him

Absolutely. Your first sentence is pretty much word for word what occurred to me when I saw the highlights of the Chelsea game this morning and watched Salah come on as sub (and miss a good chance).

We should open all transfer negotiations with these exact words from now on.

[article=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2555474/Daniel-Sturridge-prolific-English-striker-Kevin-Phillips-What-learned-weekend.html#ixzz2ssoJHIUY ]Daniel Sturridge, who was 24 on September 1st and so qualifies by 14 days to be one of the candidates to be voted PFA Young Player of the Year, ought to be a shoo-in for the prestigious award.

His deadly finish for the fourth of Liverpool’s 5-1 rout over Arsenal took him to 25 goals in 26 starts and five substitute appearances since his £12million move to Anfield from Chelsea in January 2013.

That’s the most prolific spell by an English striker in the Premier League since Kevin Phillips hit 27 in his first 29 games on the way to winning the Golden Boot in 2000. That haul for Sunderland included six penalties while only one of Sturridge’s goals have come from the spot.

Wayne Rooney got 26 goals including four penalties in 32 starts in 2009-10 – when he won both PFA Player of the Year and Footballer of the Year.[/article]

I wanted us to sign him and I was happy when we did. He´s fantastic but somehow he´s hard to love and I don´t know why.
Perhaps I´m just getting too old. feel as passiontate about the game as ever but not for the players in the same way as I used to.

Nah, I really like him. When you get past the 'I dedicate this to God' and the typical footballing banalities he strings together in post match interviews and see the larking around he engages in (which comes across a lot on LFCtv– he seems to be responsible for 90% of their out-takes), he seems to be a really likeable character. I'm beginning to get all loved-up on Danny.

It seems he appreciates and respects Rodgers a lot too, which bodes well because if he continues like this next season there will be absolutely no doubt rich clubs will try and get him, flashing millions to his agent.
We should build a chapel in Anfield so that him leaving would represent an act of turning his back on the lord Jesus Christ.

Have we got a song for him yet?
Maybe a hymn?

Like it– gospel style. To the tune of 'I went down to the River to pray'

Well I went down to Anfield to pray,
Praying for Sturridge to score today

We watch him dance with every goal
Oh Danny, show us the way!

Oh Danny, score those goals
Score those goals
Won't you score those goals

Oh Danny score those goals
Dance for the Kop today.

Do you know the version of the original by Alison Krauss and Union Station? Superb, it is.

I'd be thinking more along the lines of "Danny B.Goode" myself. "Go/Go Danny go/Go" etc.

I only know it through O Brother where art thou. Love the soundtrack to that movie and that song is one of my faves. (edit: I see it is the same).

I love that clip - The guy is a proper comedian. He can't stop giggling to himself as he is saying it all.

Back to how boss he is though - I think one of the things that has stood out for me is his calmness in front of goal. Absolutely lethal. Chelsea must be going "Hang did we really sell one of the best strikers in league to one of our rivals for 12 fucking million" 😀

Did anyone see his reaction to Coutinho's pass for his goal as well. Very quick to go straight to him and celebrate with him. This seems to be something that LFC goal scorers are doing in spades at the moment. Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge all pointing to whoever makes the assist (Usually Hendo, Gerrard or Coutinho) making sure they get lots of credit for the goal. For the first time in years there is a palpable feeling of unity and positivity oozing through the squad. I am loving it long time.

27 league starts, 26 goals. Has anyone matched this in our history? Why aren't we giving this guy some love?

Goal and wins the peno tonight. He will be a legend. No doubt. I heart Danny.

Clinical finish tonight

I like the way that he takes his time when through on goal, he doesn't snatch at the ball
