Reina
Kelly Carragher Agger Johnson
Adam
Gerrard Meireles
Young Suarez
Carroll

A side like that should be so good at keeping possession and putting opponents on the backfoot that we shouldn't need a pure defensive midfielder. However, with injuries/loss of form etc, we should still prob get one for use over the course of the season.

It's true that we don't absolutely need a defensive midfielder that can do little else.

But I want a new midfield player that can be relied upon to do *some* defending.

Didi Hamann mk II please.

i miss didi

Fortunately Gerrard's versatility means he can slot in pretty much anywhere.

I don't mind Charlie Adam because he is a very good passer of the ball and can sometimes put a foot in.

Gerrard and Meireless in front of him will give us a dynamic midfield.

Young and Suarez behind Carroll would scare the daylights out of our opponents.

an exciting summer awaits us. Let's see if Pepe stays.

There would be few complaints, but I think Gerrard and Meireles have enough between them to trouble defences as well as keep possession - therefore a defensive signing would unleash the both of them, as opposed to just one, which is what we're seeing currently.

I'd prioritize a passing, tempo-dictating central midfielder way ahead of a defensive one.

Our team needs an Alonso more than anything.

Javi Martinez is who you want so Ryan.

He wasn't poor, he was just playing deeper.

He nearly scored twice. If one of those had gone in you wouldn't be giving him shit.
a goal doesn't make a performance. i'd happily praise him for the goal but it was still a lacklustre performance by his own magnificent standards. it was certainly in his worst 5 performances in recent years.
I'm no blinkered Gerrard fan, but this is just undiluted nonsense.

I had the same conversation with a group of fellow fans at the weekend ie that in recent years we have required Gerrard to play further forward because of the paucity in our attacking options. Now, flush with more alternatives Gerrard is needed to play deeper, and that actually suits him given the onward march of time.

...and when he breaks forward from now on, which will be on far less occasions, he will be much more difficult to handle.

I thought he played well (very well given the apparent state of his injury) in a capacity that is much less attention/plaudit grabbing.

Its an indication of our other options that we dont go into the game tonight dreading Gerrards absence.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Gerrard evolves. Perhaps with better players actually taking the game to the opposition he may be happier controlling the midfield and basking in the win for his team rather than his individual glory.

I'd prefer if he stayed in the advanced role but at the moment we don't have much choice and need him to play deeper, at least until we buy a quality CM (or two)

I hope that Stevie G doesn't need another op to fix his groin again. If that's the case, maybe he should get it done asap.

Calm the fuck down everyla. He's getting older. He's playing thru injuries. He'll get sorted and get back on his game. He's better in a CM role. Suarez in the advanced role. Ged in the middle of the park keeping it tight with boss passes. Cheeky late runs into the box once the new boys get in there. All this he's playing shite bollocks is bollocks. He's not our best player/performer at the moment cos his main current duties dont envolve carrying the team on his billy. It's too risky have him play as the fucking wonder kid that saves us all the time. He'll be put out to stud in a way and use his nonce and experience to command everyone in front of him and cover wing backs.

This man speaks the truth.

I get the fact he has been injured. i GET the fact he is getting older. I UNDERSTAND THESE THINGS

i'm sayin he was poor against west ham and the mancs. THATS IT. I'm not saying anything controversial. i thought he was crap. have i said sell him? no. Have i said drop him? no. I have said several times i hope his performances were down to injury. Fucking mental in here

He wasn't poor against the mancs tho. At all. A little quiet but he hardly put a foot wrong, didn't need to be roy of the rovers for us and just got a decent run round against the leaders of the league. West Ham he looked fucking knackered like. I get that you get all these things but to label him or his performance as shit one game after injury and them again when he really wasn't shit is just shit.

i'm not expecting him to be all conquering hero every game, just by his standards it was poor. There was he didn't seem to get stuck in to tackles, he didn't seem to pass forwards more than 4 yards and he barely moved about. Now he did improve as the game went on but he didn't leave an imprint on the game. Considering last year people were slating lucas for pretty much doing the same thing i find laughable.

I understand he deserves some leeway as he has been magnificent servant for us, and that he has come back fom injury. But i really don't get why i'm being portrayed as a villain when all i said was he was shite that game. Its not like he's been at his consistent best this season either.

Fabs, I don't think many people shared your sentiments that Stevie had a shit game against the Mancs. Just look at the Man of the Match thread, he was many a person's choice for 3rd.

I know cobra, i just don't get it personally. Obviously other people saw something in his performance, but i saw someone who was doing the bare minimum. I know i'm not on my own as i've talked to a few people about it but if i'm on my own on here then fair enough. Im not arsed.

It's the pounce reaction tho. That reaction you hear from bad bad bad lfc fan cunts. The bad cunts that just fucking moan all day in work in the pub at home abaa how utterly completely SHIT he is or the team is or the manager is. Like if you asked these cunts for a more proactive outlook on things they'd twat you in the face with their copy of The Lying Rag.

Ovo lad you are far fucking removed from those cunts but on the internetz it can come across as the raise your hand if you think he's shit bandwagon. An then you give reasons and i go ooooh arrhhhhh hmmmm ok sound. Debate innit lad.

Thing is with Lucas la. Lucas last year gave the same consistantly unremarkable performances week in week out. Lucas now seems to have found his rhythm and his own little drummer is starting to come out with some cheeky little rolls and nice constant pace, but most of the shite lucas got was because he just tended to fuck stuff up and then do that jog he does which cant even be call a jog, it's more of a 'crossing a wide road and your near the end and the lights go green in the distance and you speed up by 4% so that you dont get twatted by a car' movement.

Ha! Fair enough quad, i don't mean to come across as the type who labels gerrard shit weekly. My hope i that it is a knock thats caused him to be a bit meh recently, and that he shakes it off quickly with no lasting damage. I just think people are using the "he's come back from injury" thing to make his performance seem better than it was, almost as a justification as to why eh was poor. Which i can understand.

You didn't come across like that lad. He played a quiet CM role against a side of cunts that we battered. He never played one pass in the cunts half, all his passes came from inside our half. His performace was ace in what he did. Hold the fort. Dont go bonkers and keep it ticking over nicely. It was a grown up experienced performance and we'll more than likely be seeing it alot more often which is ace cos we constantly depended on him to get us anywhere. Ask any football team "eyar dya want gerrard in CM instead whatever cunt you've got?"

fucking love that last little bit!

yeah, i get he's relearning the trade of a non-dynamic centre mid. And i understand thats what we need at the minute, but what he did was no better than lucas has been doing for the last few months. It'll be interesting to see his performances over the next few months and if he remains the quiet, unassuming CM
