Should never play as a central midfielder for Liverpool again. This isn't intended as a provocative statement. He's provided some of the best moments in my memories of our club. He is one of the best players ever to have played for us. But he shouldn't play in CM. Why? Because he isn't a central midfielder. Rafa recognised it, and was vilified for playing him in a right midfield position and behind Torres, and SG was at his devastating best.

When he plays in the middle, through sheer dint of who he is, our CMs defer to him, allow him to do everything, and unfortunately it doesn't work out well. From Alonso through to Lucas, Adam and Spearing, all have played badly when accompanied by SG in the middle. It isn't their fault. It isn't his fault.

Next manager of LFC. Play SG behind the striker or on the right of a 3 behind the striker.

i actually thought gerrard had one of his best games starting on the right for us, unfortunately henderson was brought on and out on the right instead for some reason, hasnt really got the pace for a winger but the way we played under kenny it didnt really matter too much as the wingers cut in an fullbacks took over

I think he'd be all right with a decent defensive midfielder beside him and a half decent pacey striker up front. His forward passing is still amazing.

In saying that, he should be closer to the goal

We fucked up the Cm this year. Big time. Again. And people have been screaing about left backs and right backs.... Full backs don't win you shit, but Engine room does!!!

Edit: hashis stuff... Sorry

I agree with this. When Lucas got injured we should have signed someone.

I said all this about 2 years ago.

I said it before that.

not rocket science, pretty much obvious that gerrard's strengths are mostly offensive rather than defensive and that is why GH moved him to the right and rafa moved him to the right and then as a forward (imho his best position).

And I've been saying this for years too, dickheads. I was saying it back in Kop talk.

Because I was in the lower division of Kop Talk and by the time I came into the top tier, everyone had fucked off. Robinho and I used to talk on this issue and agree.

ha ha! I remember 'the championship' forum. that takes me back. do you remeber carheex?

gerrard should evolve back into the initial defensive md he was, but this time rather than being in the davids/keane/viera mould, he should become more of a hammann or makele type of player. he can sweep things up, protect back four and then let loose world class balls unlike hamann and makele.

Has Gerrard done his coaching badges?

Gerrard - Manager
Carragher - AM
Rafa - DOF

What happens when Jon Fox's sons start raging about Stevie G's managerial skills ?

"We don't care about Instanbul !" said Luke

"You can shove The Fa Cup '06 up your poor league table position, I don't remember that shit !!" Harrison added.

I WILL NOT LIVE THAT NIGHTMARE AGAIN !

Redmaradona: completely disagree. Stevie was hardly ever a DM (Gerard Houllier did stick him there for a while but even he, stubborn though he was, gave that up as a bad idea) and for good reason - he just doesn't have the defensive instinct you need to hold your position there. He needs to play further forward, NOT further back.

Yes. Imagine him and Skully going at it in a thread on here.

Come to think of it, has anyone ever seen the two of them in a room together?

carheex was funny as hell, he also said (in the treble season) that heskey was having a purple patch and nothing more and he (carheex) got absolutely flamed, history proved him emphatically right.

if this were the stevie g of 4 yrs ago, i would agee. but this is a ageing stevie g, who doesn't have the motor of drive of before. he needs to fine tune his skills and focus on areas of the pitch where he can add massive value which is passing range, tackling abilit, and reading of the game as well as positioning.

You seem to think somehow you can perform without a motor in a defensive role as opposed to in an attacking role....which is a bit misinformed.

If he focused on the defensive part or the attacking part, he can be effective in either role...what he simply cannot do anymore is a bit of both, which made him very special for us. But his attitude and talent is such that he will never be content just sitting back, and he probably would like it more/find it easier to hang forward...which is why people are saying that he is better suited to playing forward. It is also what the team needs more right now.
