Steve Clarke Sacked

Just seen this on the news.

Wow! That's really a bad move by the Baggies

They wouldn't of went down under him so it seems a bit pointless, wouldn't suprise to see it turning out to be a mistake.

Have him back? no thanks.

In fairness he has been very unlucky.
These mid table/relegation sides dig their own graves at times.
His predecessor better have a honeymoon period or else they will probably be relegated.

Defensive coach? WBA are 2 points above the relegation zone partially because of their defence. No thanks.

A bit harsh and he's been unlucky, but after the OT win and draw away to Chelsea they've been rather poor.

Hahaha. Get some coffee and clear your mind mate.
His predecessor can have all the honeymoons that he wants, won't make a difference!

I thought he did a pretty good job for us in that position. Certainly when compared to how our current one is working out.

He's a victim of his own success last season. Based on their team sheet, they're about where they should be. They may well find that out the hard way in the latter half of this season.

Strange indeed. I thought he was doing quite well since taking over, but things seemed to be taking the wrong direction for them recently.

There's only so much you can drag out of a weak club though, so that's a bit harsh to say the least.

His defensive influence at Chelsea and then Liverpool was very good, we could have done with him when Brendan first started here. We might not have been quite so erratic at the back. Rodgers did ask him to stay apparently.

Sessegnon
Anichebe
Amalfitano
Lee Camp
Scott Sinclair
Vydra
Lugano
Anelka

Five players there who are 28+, looks like he went for cheap, experienced players. £14m net spend

I dont know mate. In 50 games in charge we've conceded 56 goals under Rodgers. With Kenny and Clarke we conceded 50 goals. The difference isnt that great.
In comparison we conceded 49 goals under Benitez and 56 under Houllier.

Goals scored is Rodgers all the way though. 30 more than Benitez in 50 games and 23 more than Kenny.

Rodgers need to evaluate our defensive coaching though. Thats an area were we have to improve. I dont think Clarke is that man, but we could do with some fresh ideas and some world class defensive coaching.

They have looked under the weather recently, but this is way premature.

As far as fetching Clarke back here as defensive coach is concerned, I agree with mark and others, and would support the idea for all sorts of reasons. We definitely need to improve at the back, small margins count at the top of the league, we know him and he knows us, players always seem to like him wherever he goes, and we wouldn't be taking a punt on a total newcomer. I'd imagine he'll be after another managerial job though.

I doubt Clarke would want to go back to being a defensive coach in the shadow of Rodgers.

He wanted to be a manager and getting sacked doesn't mean much. There will be others jobs out there soon enough.

Clarke was Rodgers' superior at Chelski. He won't want to go back anyway, but going back where your old underling is now your boss would surely be too much for him. Maureen's more likely to find a place for him. He'd be best advised to drop down a league, really build a squad as he wants it to be and bring it up to the premiership. He can't really afford another short-lived appointment.

Yeah, he'll get a new manager position pretty quickly. Most of the signings they made this season were after Ainsworth left and he did a good job tbh. Yacob, Mulumbu etc.
