Sterling to Tell Rodgers he wants to leave this summer

Shirts? You never saw nowt like that back when I were a lad. We didn't have boots, a pitch, a piece of hard concrete - we didn't even have a ball. Once a week, if we were lucky, we were allowed to sit on floor and imagine us playing football. That were sports day, that. And even though we only imagined game, we still ended up getting relegated.

We used to play with a branch,a twig, in the yard at lunch time, because balls weren't allowed. now that developed skills.

Oooh, you had a YARD! Luxury! We ended up being docked points for one of our imaginary games, having fielded an ineligible player.

He did - which surprises me in a way, as the Ox comes across in interviews as having a lot more about him than our little hairdresser's model Raheem.

I had the shit hair and the knotted scarf, fortunately I didn't get the dart.

Hendo: "Aidy Ward is a massive bellend"

"He's obviously left his future to whoever's representing him in regards to what he wants to do.

"But for me, Raheem Sterling is a fantastic player. He's been brilliant for England and I hope he will stay at Liverpool."

Henderson has also defended Sterling in light of the negative press he has received in recent weeks, adding: "One thing I love about him is that he's a great person and a great lad.

"He's getting a lot of criticism because of the contract situation but he's first-class as a person. All the lads love him whether it's with England or Liverpool.

I see Aldridge has bashed Raheem in the newspapers today as well. I know these ex-players mean well, but I don't think they're actually helping the situation. If I were Raheem, and I were pondering whether to sign or not still, I'm not sure I'd actually want to sign a new contract now, with all these supposed burnt bridges.

Yep.

Not sure it would've made a difference but seems very unnecessary to roll out every ex-player possible to slam him.

If I was Raheem all those interviews would just strengthen my resolve to leave.

I don't think you can agitate for a move whilst under contract, then have your representative bad mouth the club and not expect some adverse reaction, especially when an ex-player and obvious fan of the club is asked to comment.

At best you could describe Raheem and his agents actions as ungrateful and an unnecessary irritant. He's simply reaping what he's sown. If he isn't careful he's likely to make the club dig it's heels in.

Hodgson yesterday: 'Liverpool have a massive following in Ireland. It was the Irish fans who were booing Raheem, not the England fans'. That's right, Woy, it's not as if there's been a widespread negative reaction to the transfer saga. I guess England fans only boo Raheem when the England manager reveals he's declared himself too tired to play for his country. Hypocritical twat.

That's some talent hodgepodge has to be able to identify the people who are booing sterling.

If you read the article though Aldo is slagging off the agent not Stirling.

I think some are ye are mad wishing Sterling out the door. He's probably our best player along with Coutinho. He should keep his head down and start fresh next season. Sign a new contract, he gets a bumper pay rise, we protect his value. Win - Win.

Dave, it's all very well saying what he should do, but the chiselling little hairdresser's model is not going to do it. I don't want to see his kind of ability leaving the club, but there's no point hanging on to a player whose head is clearly elsewhere (and whose value will plummet if we force him to stay and he does bugger all worthwhile for us while he's here).

Suarez's head was elsewhere, he stayed, and he had his best ever season, and we nearly won the league. There is clearly value in hanging onto our best players.

I have no idea why we would reward petulance.

If the club has ambition on the pitch why sell your best for financial gain?

We are acting like a vehicle for players to put themselves in the shop window rather than training and managing players to make the club successful.

When a difficult situation arises I think you have to work at it rather than throw your hands in the air and capitulate to every self important player who has decided you're too small time for his talents. Let him earn his move.

There's a cost/benefit analysis to be gone through in cases like this, though. Sometimes it'll pay to hang on, sometimes it won't. AFAIC the Sterling saga has passed the point at which it would still be beneficial to us to keep him, and did so a while ago.
