Spurs vs Liverpool: Pre-match thread

So you didn't read the post immediately before yours then ?

Running smarter is still running. The reason English teams run more is the frenetic style of football and the reliance on pace in attacks. You win it, start sprinting. The other team counter you start sprinting. None of that will stop.

As you said in other posts, gegenpressing is for 5 odd seconds after you lose the ball. Right now English teams use that time to take a breather and rest. If you demand another sprint, its going to kill the players.

They may win the ball... Then sprint again in an attack. Or more likely they don't win it and have to sprint back towards our own goal. Humans are not capable of such things. But let's see.

I expected us to win this before the managerial switch. Now I expect us to win and for Klopp to get all the credit for it.

Why is it when I look at that picture, it looks like Klopp has just teleported in ??

Is there anything this fella cannot do ?

No. When you get old your brain cells get old and the neurons stop firing in the correct order. So when you go to type "waist" your brain retrieves the word "waste" accidentally. Especially if you're an engineer trying to reduce waste or a refuse collector trying to incinerate it. The brain goes down the well trodden neural path rather than the correct one.

But fear not. I'm still an absolute fucking genius that would wipe the floor with anybody elses brain half my age.

Haha! Good lad Dantes

Considering this : I'm still an absolute fucking genius that would wipe the floor with anybody elses brain half my age. - Dantes October 2015

I've no idea how you still haven't got the theory of this gegenpressing yet. It's pressing differently to how we have been, not more running, it seems your brain is still going down the well trodden neural path rather than the correct one.

I'm only going on what you have said and what Klopp has said, and vague memories of when Dortmund were good. In short, you misplace a pass and give the ball away (we got this bit down to a fucking tee), this is usually going to be in the opposition half, then for the next 5 seconds everyone tries to press the guy with the ball, the idiot who gave it away goes straight to him, but others should close him down from other angles to cut off his options.

Ideally the other players should be standing between the defenders and the guy with the ball, so when they press, they don't leave a pass on. Or else, they should be in a close formation so when they press together there is no space by default to pass into.

It's simple. It's also stupid. You'll all get tired, not win the ball better than 25% of the time, and by being tired, you'll give the ball away more, have to gegenpress even more, give it away even more. It's a runaway reaction leading to the death of your squad by February.

Klopp's latest is gengengenerationtwopressing.

It's where all eleven players press and circle the opponent with the ball so he has nowhere to go. It's high risk, obviously, but if done correctly, it's a match winner. When we get the ball off him, our players all circle our own guy with the ball and walk him into the net. It's revolutionary.

I seen them practising it at Melwood this week from my handglider.

I'd put can where milner is and milner where origi is. Milner to me is better out wide than he is in the middle. Plus with his energy he could do some serious pressing from the front.

I don't care how good Klopp is, that isn't a Top 4 team. Urgh.

Ings, Gomez, Benteke, Henderson all missing. What a terrible streak of injuries for the new manager.

I think Spurs have their fair share of injuries as well.
Son is out with Kane being their only recognized striker.

We'll go 4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1 according to some long-winded analysis of Klopp I read late last night.

Something like this...

------------------------------Ming------------------------------

Clyne--------Skrtel------------Sakho-----------Moreno-

Ibe-----------Milner----------Can/Lucas-------Countinho

----------------Sturridge----Origi/Lallana/Firmino------

Thats broadly my fear. He could be the ghost of Shanks lovechild with Fergie, the players are still shit. Would Mourinho win the league with Stoke. Im thinking no.

I don't think our team is that bad at all. I actually think we have a good team albeit there's major concerns in 3 positions for me...Goalkeeper, Left back and defensive mid.

Our defenders aren't as shit as some make out, with a bit of coaching and confidence, I reckon we'll see us improve with Klopp in charge. Hendo, Coutinho and Firmino if he pulls the finger out can provide plenty of energy and creativity, and Benteke and Sturridge are two massively talented strikers capable of scoring goals for fun...Granted there's still massive concerns over the latter's injury/fitness problems.

It's by no means a perfect team/squad and it's unbalanced in certain areas, not to mention light in others. But I still think there's plenty of quality in there, and with a few players hopefully able to show their worth.

I think we will play Diamond.. something like this... 4.4.1.1 / 4.3.2.1
------------------------------Ming------------------------------

Clyne--------Skrtel------------Sakho-----------Moreno--

-------------------------Lucas--------------------------

----------Can---------------------------------Milner-----

--------------------------------Lallana-------------------

----------------Coutinho--------------------------------

-------------------------------------Sturridge-----------

That for me is the strongest 11 you could put out..

Each player playing in arguably their best position..

So just the spine then. And the hope we can start scoring goals?

Hes a coach, not a Warlock.
