Who was the last youth player sold that made a name for themselves in the Premiership after being released by Liverpool?Who was the last youth player to be sold for millions? I can only remember Danny Guthrie for £2.5million. It was indeed quite frustrating how we seemed to be giving young players away - the likes of Adam Hammill, Paul Anderson, Jack Hobbs etc. who were all decent enough for Championship clubs. Blackburn made a profit selling Warnock for £8m from Aston Villa, 2 years after signing him from us for £1.5m. We didn't seem to bother about long term remuneration, such as sell on clauses. Even the lost of Danny Wilson on a free transfer is pretty shocking. I mean, the lad's still very young and even though we probably didn't pay the add on fees, he still cost decent money. Hopefully, the Ince and Shelvey deals is the start of more conscious dealings by the club and management.

a few clubs in for #LFC Jay Spearing but the lad doesn't want to drop into Championship & will hold out for a new Premier League club
No, receiving a good fee is on top good business. You don't put him in a basket and leave him on a doorstep.
Oh for gods sake, who dragged them into it. You're way too touchy these days.
WANDERERS are running out of time to enter the race to sign Jay Spearing.
Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers have agreed a £1.75million fee for the Liverpool midfielder, who spent last season on loan at the Reebok.
The Ewood Park club are currently trying to raise the cash to fund the deal – which is likely to happen in the next few days with exits expected for striker Mauro Formica and defender Martin Olsson.
But while Wanderers fans are desperate to see the Anfield academy graduate back at the club, it looks highly unlikely Freedman will be handed enough cash to match the asking price – news that is likely to sting should the player end up wearing blue and white halves next term.
Spearing ideally wants to remain in the Premier League but sources close to the 24-year-old believe he would pick Wanderers above anyone else in the Championship were they to match Rovers’ bid.
Freedman, who is in Spain with his squad, has reserved most of his free cash for improving his attacking options and has been hinting for the last fortnight a winger and a striker would be the next positions on his list.
Spearing’s apparent availability may now affect his thinking – and few signings would be better received on the Reebok terraces than the Scouse terrier, who was arguably the club’s most consistent player last season.

@OfficialBWFC #AskDougie how come we didn't snap up Jay Spearing after his successful loan last season?

DF: "This is one problem with loans. You work with them, they go back better with an increased value. We have nothing to show at the end."
DF: "Jay Spearing did wonderfully well for our club and of course I like him as a player and person."

@OfficialBWFC Dougie is the signing of Jay Spearing a realistic proposition for BWFC

DF: "We spoke to Liverpool and their valuation was too high. Please do not believe the price that some journalist makes up."

@OfficialBWFC Have we still got the option of a chelsea player on loan from the cahill deal? #Askdougie
Official BWFC @OfficialBWFC 9m
DF: "I believe that is the case, but we have not got an option on which player. We're back at improving other team's players again."
It is a problem with loans really. We were never going to actually play spearing this year unless he was phenomenal at lower level, we loaned him out to out him in the shop windows.
Sadly for Bolton, jay did well and now his fee has inflated because of it.
They've developed him, and got no long term gain.
Olsson’s exit comes after the Swede made it clear that he wanted to return to the Premier League.
The funds from the sale could now potentially be used to press ahead with a deal for Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing, although Rovers could also look for a left back as a replacement for Olsson.
Rovers want to sign Spearing but talks with Liverpool have so far only been on an informal basis.
