Why didn't Shebby Singh negotiate for Blackburn? He will bid at least 10m GBP for him.....

Well that's just another way of saying you don't like him, but it's a nonsense way of dealing with players who clearly have more value in terms of the market rate.

true i don't like him and i don't think he's a good footballer and with a year left on contract wasn't expecting anything more then a 1m.

Didn'tcha learn anyfink from last week's sausage-selling task in France??? I sometimes wonder if I'm dealing wiv a bunch of total wallies! £1.5m for a player who ought to have gorn for at least twice that amount? Is that how you sell your assets? Wait until the first flippin' muppet turns up wiv a 2 pound coin an' a gobstopper in 'is pocket and asks if you've any empty bottles of pop you don't need?? I don't believe what I'm bladdy hearing!! Do you bladdy think the boss of M&S says "Oooh, my missus don't like lobster, so I'd better tell me shops to sell it for tuppence"?? It's bladdy lobster, and I couldn't care less if YOU don't bladdy like it! All right, Spearing's not a lobster, he's more like a very good bit of haddock, but there's a lot of demand for bladdy haddock, SO DON'T GIVE IT AWAY, you bladdy muppet! Actually, I'm fed up wiv you - wiv no regret...YOU'RE FIRED!!!!

very good. still don't actually believe he's worth more than 1m. obviously someone does though, so let those 'wallies' pay it and see if it's money well spent.

1.75 is just about acceptable, i am sure (hopeful!) that we have done something like Ince and added a sell-on clause, which will probably mean 20% of a future transfer in the same region...

2,5 mill would have been a good deal and his true value imho.

Lee cunting Cattermole is on his way out of S'land for 2 mill.

Well that's fairly cheap as well by today's standards. Even for him. Two years ago he was being touted around for a minimum of £10m and he's still only 25 with three years left on his contract. Crazy, yes, but as I say, ignore what you think of him and look at the market.

They must be desperate to get him of the wage bill. Signed a new 4 year deal in October

I shudder to think how much we would have sold Hendo for if he'd come up through our youth system. Probably let him go on a free. Eleven years ago - ELEVEN - David Thompson, aged 25, was sold to Blackburn for...£1.5m. Now, Thompson had left LFC and dropped down a division, so hardly a major catch at the time, but he still attracted that kind of fee THEN. We're a bloody charity shop.

£6m+ add on's and £1.75 structured for Shelvey and Spearing is decent I guess, with one year left on Spearing's deal.

We have no use for him, that's been abundantly clear since Rodgers took over.

I didnt expect much but anything we do get is a bonus.

Keeping a player you have no use for isn't sensible.

Removing him from the wage bill and receiving a fee on top is good business.

No, receiving a good fee is on top good business. You don't put him in a basket and leave him on a doorstep.

It's swings and roundabouts mate, Michu went for £2million last season, it's just the way it is. I do feel we've done poorly out of this deal though, should have got £3million. Hopefully we've slapped on a sell on fee or something like that to make up for the low fee.

It's not just the way it is. Some deals are badly handled and some are handled very shrewdly. This club at the moment needs every single penny it can squeeze out of every aspect of its business. In that situation there's no room for fatalism or softness when selling players.

Weren't Blackburn a PL club 11 years ago? Personally I thought Spearing would be good enough to attract a lower PL team, as you suggested, and on that basis would go for £3m or so, but as it became clear that he wasn't I thought we'd obviously struggle to get more than half that.

Isn't the best way of settling this debate just to compare similar recent deals? What have other journeymen PL to C'ship transfers been valued at? There was Leon Best at £3m, what about some others?

It does feel that we struggle to get the most of our fringe / reserve players at times. In the past I've put it down to the fact that ours probably have been of a poorer quality to the ones at Utd for example, but I'm not so sure that is the case any more. So is it down to reputation, lack of influence / contacts in the game or simply bad business skills?

Could it be that our players are not as valued within the English game regardless of what some people say about our academy these days.

1.5M for Spearing is acceptable. He's hardly featured for the 1st team and is at best a Championship player. The lad has a big heart and kudos for fighting to get a place all these years.

Time to move on and build a career for yourself. Goodluck lad!

1,75 mill fee and 1 mill or so off the wage list.
Its alright tbh. Not great but alright.
We have no use for him. That he's a decent lad and a local lad doesnt count for anything in the end.

I think when you consider the fact that Loompa Land is outside the EU and how difficult it can be getting a visa etc then 1.75 ain't too bad.

I did a quick scan of the BBC's list of June transfers and almost all PL-C'ship transfers were described as 'Free'. I think El Mohamedy (sp?) Sunderland to Stoke at £2m was the one exception.

Yes, well the window's barely been open and most of these were youth players moved on or dropped. The next time the club struggles to come up with an extra one or two million for a big deal, no doubt you'll all sit back contentedly and think of what a nice wage bill we now have.

And Spearing isn't 'useless', he's probably the one utility player we had in the squad when several were out with injury, and every squad needs one or two of those. And he played very well in some big games, so he's not a mere championship player, unless you rate everyone of moderate abilities in all premiership teams as championship players, in which case every club has about five or six on their books who play week in week out, including most at Norwich, Stoke, Sunderland, Newcastle, Villa, West Brom, West Ham, Cardiff, Palace, Fulham, Swansea and Southampton, so there's no need to downgrade one of our own players just because he's not fucking Coutinho.

People keep mentioning Leon Best. Irrelevant as he's a striker (if you can call him thst) and they generally go for more than other positions.

1.75 mill is fine. More than I thought we'd get.

More than you thought we'd get is again hardly the point.

Is it any less the point that it being less than you thought we could get?

I think the evidence is that £1-2m is about the market rate for a Championship level midfielder (the more so given the time left on his contract). The majority of his professional appearances have been at Championship level or below, and the clubs interested in him have been at that level, so again I think the evidence is that he's more a C'ship player than a PL one.

You are right of course but in this case it seems that there weren't any other bids so what could we do? Not sell him even when the manager thinks he won't use him?

So when a bid comes in for any player, we'll say, 'Oh dear, there aren't any other bids, and we lack a telephone and a list of likely clubs, and we HAVE to sell if any bid arrives, so I guess we're trapped'. The absence of bids doesn't oblige one to do anything - certainly not sell a player for a pittance when there are several clubs that, who knows, might be interested but have not yet bid. Coyle, for example, rates Spearing and he's just taken over at Wigan. He's barely started to work the market. Why the rush? Isn't Rodgers capable of coaching a supposedly mediocre player? He had enough of them at Swansea. But this is going round and round, so I'm out.

£1.5 million is a fucking joke for a player of his experience and ability. Can't we at least agree on that?
