But a payment plan for 1.5m? That's absurd, and that's the kind of money youth players are going for these days. Mental.

I actually think that's ok. Seems like he's a Championship level player, and there just isn't a lot of money around down there.

He could easily do a job at a club like Norwich or Palace. He's bright, he's versatile (in an emergency for that sort of club he could play a game in defence, midfield or even attack), his work rate is first class and his attitude is excellent. Blackburn is a den of insanity.

Doesn't look like anyone else was interested and there was no point hanging on to him.

Maybe there's clauses that beef it up.

1.5 Million??!! He's no Messi but he certainly no Ali Dia either. Oh well. Good luck to the lad.

I feel like Bolton could have got together a bit more cash than that for their player of the season.

How long has he left on his contract? If it's 1 year, then 1.5M is fair enough I guess.

1 year left and I'm guessing he's on 20k a week or something.
We were a bit "mad" with the wages back then...
1,5 isnt bad, but it should be upfront.

I like Spearing. Good honest lad and has never done anything but in the clubs best interest.
I wouldnt want him to end up in Blackburn. A mess of a club and he deserves much better.

We're still way too soft with these kinds of things. He's a young player with great experience for a player of his age in Europe as well as the Premier League, and if there's any bunch of idiots we could and should be persuading to pay much more it's those chicken-plucking twerps the Venkys. They bought Leon bloody Best from the barcodes last season for £3m. It's what I was saying a couple of days ago - the Academy is doing its job but the club has to maximise the money it can, potentially, generate, and that needs much more effort.

FFS £1.5 is ridiculous, he's proved himself to be a decent premier league midfielder albeit better suited to a team battling relegation rather than a team with top 4 aspirations. We must include at least a 20% sell-on clause because there's every chance he'll be sold for £5m+ at some stage in the next few years.

They seem broke though.

Yeah, right. If that's really the case they should be trawling the lower divisions for frees, not trying to buy young Premier League players who've also played against some massive teams in Europe and filled in for the likes of Steven flipping Gerrard. We're not talking about what certain fans think of him, we're talking about how you sell to other clubs. You don't shrug your shoulders and leave a player out in an Oxfam bag. And if those sub-KFC clots turn up and say we've no money but give us one of your most reliable utility players, laugh at them, tell them to feck off and hawk the player around clubs that do have some bloody money. If he was at Arsenal or Spurs or the mancs or even Newcastle he wouldn't go for anything under £3m.

Ridiculous. All other clubs know we are STILL a soft touch when it comes to selling. Leon Best worth £3m but Spearing only worth £1.5m?
Get to fuck.

1 year. From the Echo:

Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing is edging closer to a move to Blackburn Rovers.

The clubs have agreed a fee of around £1.75million but talks are continuing over the structure of the deal.

Hallo? Ian! Hi again. We've been talking to our accountant and this is the plan we've come up with. We'll pay £1.5m for Jay, structured in this way - £100 up front and all the chicken you can eat. Then £100 more this time next year. Then rising to £1m more if and when he scores the winner for England in the World Cup Final. Then - yes, we must be crazy! - a further £4,800 if he grows to 6 feet or taller. Yes, ha ha, we have more money than sense, I know! Great to deal with you, byee!

Well that's just another way of saying you don't like him, but it's a nonsense way of dealing with players who clearly have more value in terms of the market rate.
