The Stoke match isn't going to be easy

Torres will have to toughen up for this one.
Fucking behave yourself Squig. If were worried about Stoke AT HOME, then we really are lost.
Of course it will be tough.

We didn't score home or away against them last season and after Sundays toothless display we can hardly go into the game fully expecting a landslide.

I really hope Yossi starts.

He's too slow and obvious has no skill at all.
Where does this no skill thing come from for Kuyt?
Robin's arse.

Such smarmy arsery.

Kuyt is one fucking million times better than Babel, which is why he'll play more often, score more often, and do more more often than him this season, just like every other fucking season. Stick your Babel = total football up your manx arse.
I know you love Kuyt; it's a matter of pride with you now as you've always backed him, but he's obviously a very limited player and none of our top rivals would play him.

Sure, Babel's not living up to his ability, of course I agree. But Kuyt isn't very good. Sorry.

As an out and out striker, you'd be right.

Which is why he was chucked to RM,but he's done well there tho.

yossi would give at least as good a return as kuyt if he was played week in week out the way kuyt is.

my opinion of kuyt is you know what you are going to get and that is invaluable for league football.
Kuyt will also run through a brick wall which can't be underestimated when the shit is hitting the fan.
an honest pro who gives a 100%, these are qualities that mark him down as one of the first names on the team sheet. but if he is our ljunberg/houghton then we definately need a pirez/barnes for the left hand side, you can't fill your team with honest pros and hard workers and expect to win the league the graft has to be balance with flair.

Only Ronaldo scored more goals than him from the right last season and Ronaldo wasn't even always deployed there in certain games. 16 goals and 9 assists in all competition I think, including some important goals. We might have pressing issues at the moment but Dirk Kuyt certainly isn't one of them.

i like dirk and wouldn't mind seeing a 442 tomorrow with kuyt upfront next to torres and yossi on the right. i'd rather riera on the left, infact i'd rather have doseena there than babel in a conventional 442.

i'd be pissed off if we line up with one striker at home against stoke.

I wouldn't be so much as pissed if we lined up with one up front - after all - it's a formation that works well for us.

It's whether the HUGE gap between midfield and attack is a little less noticeable than it was on Sunday.

----------------- Reina -------------------

Johnson --- Carra --- Skrtel --- Insua

-------------- Mascherano ---------------

Kuyt -------------------------------- Riera

------ Gerrard -------- Benayoun ------

------------------ Torres ------------------

----------------- Reina -------------------
Johnson-Carragher-Skrtel-Dossena
---------------Mascherano -------------
Benayoun-----Gerrard----------Riera
-------------Kuyt-----Torres------------

We need more than one striker against Stoke.

Dossena offers more than Insua going forward, has more experience and it could be a good opportunity to put him in the shopping window. If Skrtel is out I guess we have to replace him with Ayala.

Out for two weeks with a cracked jaw.

So needless aswel. They looked straight at each other yet contested the same ball. Where was the communication?
Exactly.

One of the more stupid injuries I've seen.

I was quite amazed that Skrtl actually was capable to continue. He's a tough lad alright.

carra's letting his song get to him. no 1 is carra...so he goes and saves the ball, no 2 .... well you get the idea.

Totally Carra's fault though, surely? At least Skrtel was facing the right way.

The thought of two defensive midfielders and only one striker at home against Stoke 'Fucking' City is just depressing.

It must have been, Skrtel was mid air first which is why he took a upwards blow to the face.

But... Lucas is a box-to-box midfielder.

It doesn't have to be negative. If both full-backs are operating as quasi-wingers, that effectively means six attacking players on the pitch - seven if Lucas moves into the box occasionally, as you'd expect him to do.

I think it's really a question of tempo and belief rather than formation. We've just got to attack them like we attacked teams in the last two months of last season.

Yep. Carragher was facing our goal as opposed to Skrtel who would be heading away from danger. A rush of blood to head later left both dazed and now one injured. What a waste.

True

Too much is made of formations and systems for my liking. I know it's obvious but it sometimes needs pointing out: any formation has the flexibility to be as attacking or defensive as you need it to be. We just got to execute.

It does look that way, but it's possible Carragher's called it and Skrtel's gone for it anyway.

It summed up their partnership on sunday, really.

Carragher's voice can usually be heard all over Anfield, it would be odd if Skrtel didn't hear it. That's if he did call it. Odd situation that both are obviously regretting.

carra was being a fucking bellend contesting that header with skrtel. i have no fucking idea what he was trying to achieve.

Skrtel was best placed to head that ball AWAY from goal most definitely and, what's worse, Carragher actually saw him before he went for the header
