So... will Aquilani transform our season?

I don't think he will, personally. It was always hoping too much, I guess, but on that performance he looks a very skilful and potentially exciting player whose adaptation to the team will cause us as many problems as it solves.

Maybe I'm being unfair, but I have a feeling the reason he hasn't played more before now is that Rafa didn't trust him tactically. He just looks too free-spirited and lightweight to play CM for Liverpool under Benitez. I really hope I'm wrong, but I can see this being another Keane-esque right-player-wrong-team scenario.

And yes, I know it's only one match.

With him coming into the side, Gerrard and Torres returning, we have to be optimistic. We can turn things around.

He certainly didn't work too hard tonight.
It was essentially a dead rubber though, I would rather he worked on his fitness than got tore in to proove a point.
Torres being fit will save our season.

tired BADLY during the game. needs games but rafa isn't going to start him in the rough and tumble of the league anytime soon.
there was forward momentum with him which was pleasing, sick to death of crab like passes all game from the usual suspects.

torres must be relieved he moved from AM, a team that was way too relient on him...

oh.

No. Jamie Redknapp clone.

Benitez will coach any guile and invention out of him anyway.

I've been thinking the same thing all season. Bit depressing really.

I think I've mentioned it a few times but I remember the look on his face after A.Madrid got absolutely fucking battered by Barca... I hope I never see it here at Liverpool.

He's going to have to prove he can grind out a performance in midfield when the going gets tough otherwise Gerrard is going to have to drop deep to help him, at which point we probably lose as much, or more, than we gain since our greatest attacking potency currently comes from the Torres/Gerrard partnership.

Unless Rafa has some other masterplan in mind, of course...

Yes. It's not like he's not fully fit, so let's bring on the definitive judgements. Amazing why the manager hesitated to use him before. :🙂

at AM he was the star along with maxi rodriguez, just replace maxi with gerrard and its the same thing all over again.

Faffa knows best.

Although I do worry about the bust up with Rafa rumours, him being frustrated, his dad and national coach moaning with the WC around the corner.

We all know what Rafa's like once he makes his mind up about a player, hope it's not another Keane situation.

Actually Rafa knows better than Faffa.

I don't think it's another Keane situation (at least I hope it isn't).

It might be worth bearing in mind that this is a player that has only managed 60 games in 5 years, so being over cautious with his fitness isn't necessarily a bad idea I suppose.

As for fitting him in, I'd really like to see us to play a proper three in midfield in an attempt to start controlling games again.

Seriously mods - stop letting this twat keep coming back on in different guises and just being a twat.

[/quote]Hes a 25 year old italian international who's played at the top level since he was 17.
He'll be fucking fine.

There's being cautious, which was us extended his recovery period by an extra two months when he arrived; fine, I can live with that. But what's happened, or not happened as the case stands, since the Arsenal CC game has been a joke.

Well, I agree with Del who said he should've played a part against Debrecen but whatever, what's done is done. He's made his debut now and hopefully it'll be the start of good things to come.

Alonso should not have been sold.

Nothing against Aquilani but its just a fact.

What a fucking awful season, its just misery. Nobody can expect Aquilani to save our season primarily because i doubt anybody is good enough to solve our problems and secondarily because the way we are playing we dont fucking deserve anything saved....

all of them from the owners to rafa to the players need to stand up and be counted right fucking now because whatever the fuck is going on is just fucking pitiful, stick your "hope" up your arse cos we need a fucking win RIGHT NOW no fucking excuses.

And you know this.

Heh, at least one of us still has the energy to be angry about this.

A season or two ago, this sort of thing would've sent the forum into meltdown, but now we just sigh and switch off.

Can somevody (whose opinion I respect preferably) give me an overview of what he was like tonight.

Cheers.

Not sure if you respect my opinion but here it is: he played for approx 75 mins. Started fading around the hour mark. Made a lot of successful , mostly one touch passes. got in the box a lot in first half of first half but got on the end of nothing, mainly cos there was nothing to get on the end of. Looked comfortable on the ball and never panicked when closed down. Not enough movement from his teamates to see his full passing range. Made a number of successful fancy flicks but one unsuccessful one that nearly ended with Fiorentina winning a penalty, and will not have pleased Rafa ( the unsuccessful one I mean). Overall I would give him a 6.5

I doubt im somevody but.... imo...

did nowt wrong, some nice touches seems to have good vision and passing and reasonable mobility, weak in the tackle but that could just be nerves re his injury. Didnt like the way he lost the ball and followed the player he lost it too without attempting to challenge. Sadly he was played without any option up in front of him and in a team badly in need of being put down humanely.

He didnt suck neither did he set the pitch aflame.

Im still hopeful about him.
