So who do we want/expect/hope?

I've decided I want Rodgers as manager based purely on the fact that he's from Carnlough.

It's a well know fact that noron irish managers win things and managers like Rafa consistently struggle at the top level.

Ask Doc & Refugee, they know.

I am starting to really warm about having Martinez with us. Considering the quality of the team at Wigan he played some nice stuff. He beat Arsenal, UTD, Newcastle, Us and were robbed against the chavss at the bridge in the meaty end of the season. He must have something about him. His Swansea team played some lovely footy.

Hopefully he can steal the best couple of players from Wigan for our squad as well like Moses or even Rodalegga, good squad men.

I am optimistic, all of our previously successful league managers were novices in mangement before we had them lets not forget.

Roy was probably our most experienced manager ever unless you count all of Houlliers little France jobs and look how Roy did.

Support Martinez

I'm loathed to go overboard about any of the candidates, but in simple terms it seems to me we're looking at something along these lines:

A DoF who has some pedigree, preferably within an attack minded set up, experience of working with younger players coming through the ranks and also picking out up and coming talents from elsewhere. A real focus on developing talent and addressing the areas where we fall short - in the attacking areas and more importantly, as an attacking unit. The main point though will be to attract quality to the club.

Steve Clarke - While I agree with Rosco that our defense isn't what it was and we do still need to improve, he is a good defensive coach who will work on the spine of the side and the back four, adding balance to what we're trying to do elsewhere.

The Manager - A young(ish) up and coming talent with attack minded leanings, capable of playing good football and working within restrictions if needs be, while getting the best from what he has available. Whether Martinez is that man remains to be seen, he's certainly not without talent, but he's also shy of the experience at the top level. And despite what his Wigan side did against the big sides last season, they also lost alot of games. His games won ratio is more than worrying. But sometimes making the step up and working with better players sees a marked improvement, the demands at Liverpool are different to those at the likes of Wigan though, as we found out with Hodge.

It'd be far more interesting though! And he'd attract better players.

He may attract them but what is the point of that if he does not have the funds to buy them.

It's not like any of the old Barca top guard would follow him to Anfield anyway

If I were FSG I'd be bending over backwards to get Van Gaal. The vast majority of fans would be happy with that. If he turned down the job I'd go for Rafa. He's likely to get them the CL place and if he bombed they could turn round and say we gave you what you wanted, it didn't work, now shut the fuck up and we'll do it our way.

I was actually thinking this the other day . If as owners you only really care about making money and say the club is , then if in a position like this where the vast majority of your fans are screaming for a manager and he wants the job then you'd be mad not to give it to him . Give your customers what they want and avoid abuse .

You make more money out of being successful though. And fans are fairly fickle, if a new manager comes in that they don't immediately warm to, they soon will if they start winning.

Chelsea and Liverpool have been alerted to the latest comments from Pep Guardiola, after the Spaniard hinted he could be ready for an early return to management.

Guardiola will end a glorious four-year reign as Barcelona manager tonight when the Catalans take on Athletic Bilboa in the Copa del Rey final.

The former midfielder ensured he would go down as one of the greatest managers in Barcelona’s history after winning an astonishing 13 trophies during his four years in charge, including three league titles, two champions leagues and a Copa del Rey.

The 41-year-old revealed at the end of April that he was stepping down as Barca boss to spend a year away from the game and spend time with his family. However, the BBC quote him today as saying he is ready to listen to any offers that come in and could return if a club ‘seduces’ him.

“I will receive all calls with pleasure, but for the next months I have to recharge my batteries and my mind,” said Guardiola.

“I will be ready [to return] if one club wants me and seduces me.” Guardiola is quoted as saying by the BBC

These comments will almost certainly alert officials at Chelsea and Liverpool, with both clubs currently looking to fill a managerial void. Liverpool sacked Kenny Dalglish after a disappointing league campaign while Chelsea are looking for a permanent successor to Andre Villas-Boas, with interim manager Roberto Di Matteo’s future yet to be decided.

he's not bad, but could he manage a team on a cold wednesday night in stoke? also he has no plan b, as we've seen against chelsea, his tactics wouldnt work anywhere near as well in the prem as they did at barca

Surprisingly few managers DO seem to have a plan b. It seems to have gone out of fashion.

Yes - stubborn manager syndrome when a manager persists with tactics which are obviously not working. Houllier and Benitez suffered badly from it, and I felt Kenny was developing it as last season went on - the FA Cup Final was a classic example.

Some of them seem willing and able to do it early on, when they don't know the players so well. Rafa, for example, used subs fairly early and changed things during his first season or so, but the more he knew his players the less inclined he was to alter things. Maybe cynicism creeps in once you know the squad. Maybe, as you say, the pride increases and stubborness results.

i just noticed that poor old neil hasn't posted in here for two whole days now . Ok he might be on some other forum but i doubt it's the same for him, he must be about ready to explode ! Or maybe he just ran out of coke/speed goof balls .
