So.... United

We played against Southampton on Saturday while Man Utd played their derby match against Man City on Sunday.

After this tie, our next game is away to Sunderland on Sunday, an extra day compared to Man Utd who face WBA at home.

Seeing this will be their 3rd of 5 games in 16 days, is it fair to say Moyes will be prioritizing the league and CL instead? Alas, after yesterday's lost and a less than satisfactory record vs the bigger teams thus far, maybe he'll be tempted to play his best team?

The only bad thing about watching Utd get thrashed was knowing that we're up next and everybody will be looking for them to bounce back. It will make things tough for us.

I know we have a few injury problems at the moment but surely given how early it is in the season and having no European fixtures means we can put out a decent side and at least try and avoid getting unceremoniously dumped out the cup by Utd of all teams. I mean... what's the fucking point otherwise.

Ming, Toure, Skrtel, Sakho, Enrique, Lucas, Henderson, Gerrard, Sterling, Moses, Suarez

You talk about it like some vitamin jab.

Why didn't we get a "confidence boost" against Southampton?

I don't get where any expectation comes about weakened teams on either side. Even before the weekend results, Moyes couldn't afford another loss to Liverpool and Rodgers needs to win something, so either would be insane to risk throwing the match away with a weakened team.

I rather put out a youth side then when we win Man Utd will look stupid as.

In the unlikely event we lose, the confidence of the main team will be left unscathed.

Put the best team out we can, bar injuries. I guarantee they'll be putting out their strongest team after just getting battered by city.

btw Robin the rapist is 50/50 for Wednesday. I presume gollum will be busting his ass to get him fit for that game.

Because we lost????

Yeah so why the hell do people think we will get a 'confidence boost' just because we send a full team out against Man Utd???? There's every chance we'll lose, (or kill each other to a draw / narrow win) and the rest of the league benefits.

And who gives a shit if David Moyes is going to put out his strongest team? If David Moyes touches his dick are all of you going to start as well?

After a lost, especially after a thrashing and a capitulation, there's a need to prove it was a one-off and the best way to do that is to win the next game. Especially if it's against your greatest rival.

I definitely don't want Suarez coming on against these fellows and getting himself sent off or something stupid like that

It's about taking the fixture seriously. You seem to be quite content to go into the game not caring if we win or lose. The whole confidence boost thing may be talking in footballing cliches but it's clear that irrespective of the competition winning / losing games has some bearing on the psychology of the team / squad / club.

If we send a bunch of Flannagans out there for the slaughter, what does that say about us as a club particularly when we're not in Europe? And what happens if Sunderland goes the way of Southampton?

Liverpool has stuttered along for years picking and choosing it's moments - e.g. Europe, the end of the season when the pressure is off, games against the top sides - and that needs to stop. We know that our team can raise it's game when it really wants to. What we need to see now is some consistency, fear in the hearts of our opponents and recognition that second best is not a fucking option.

Its against manure, its a no brainer that we should put out a full strength team and try to win. I don't care if it was a game of tiddlywinks we always go all out to beat the mancs.

We need a full strength team. I've said it before, but playing a weakened side just because it's a "less important" trophy is just bollocks. Yes, we lost a few players in the last round, but let's face it, that was just freakishly bad luck. We need to go out and beat these cunts on Wednesday night. I spent all Saturday evening and Sunday morning listening to the wankers sneering at our expense after we lost. Of course they changed their tune after their own game (of course Utd fans are so fucking dense, that they don't realise it's stupid to start the slagging until they've at least played their own match). I hope we bash the fuck out of them. I hope Suarez tortures them for 90 minutes. I don't care if he gets sent off (at least he can't get suspended) as long as he contributes to winning.

At this stage, I don't know a fuck who's injured any more (Agger? Sturridge?) but we should be starting our strongest available 11 for this one. Who cares if it's only the Capital One Cup? We're playing United. That's as important as any league match.
