its definitely shite, but thats not the point. Besides, it's been years since we've touched silverware, so i would prefer to be in as many competitions as possible to improve that haul

no one was complaining when we won it in 2001

Yep, thats what I think aswell. And I think we'll qualiy by winning it this season.

Agreed. I don't get the negativity towards it.
 
We lack a competitive edge against most weaker teams, so playing the bigger boys in the latter stages can only be a good thing.
 
I don't think the Euro league is enough of a pull to attract new signings and neither would it convince players to stay if they want to leave. However, if we have a chance of being in a competition we should try to take it everytime.

Its not like you see other clubs not playing in Europe and then go straight into qualifying for the league or even going into the CL so I'm not sure that a year of concentrating on the league Will really help anyway.
 
While it's not the end of the world to miss out on Europa League next season, I certainly would prefer that we do qualify, for the reasons stated by others above. Most notably, the idea that we need to rediscover winning. This means we need to be in the best competitions we can be, even if they're not the competitions we ultimately want to be in. European football, even Europa League, is also still a draw to players we may look to sign.
