So Gomel then..

Well that's a relief. The last half hour was reasonably solid. Before that it was unbearably witless.

Not too much to judge or be worried about here. We got the result, job done. Pre-season match, new manager, players not used to playing together, expectations should be low, and our spirits should be above average. Let's not carp or complain, it's a game you can;t read too much into. As for as I am concerned, this is our first match under Brendan's tutelage, and it's a win. Good enough

I'm happy for Downing. Scored against "mighty" Gomel.
Last season he scored against the mighty Oldham and Stoke.
Wow he has really proven himself now.

I'm in work so how did we do?
Also tell me about these things
Borini? Sterling? Cole injured?

Borini didn't get much service and didn't do much, often outmuscled by defenders. Sterling tried too hard and gave the ball away but he'll benefit from the experience. Cole looked like he tweaked his hammy.

Borini made a lot of good run that with a better through ball could have resulted in some good chances. Nearly scored at the end and worked his socks off. Having played 28 mins since May he was decent.

Maybe he can build on that and show his class against Malaysia XI next time

Lads, he scored the winner, let him have his moment. We've all said how crap we feel he was, over and over last year. Give him 5 games without sarcasm, and let's see how he does. Could be a turning point for the lad..
