Simon Mignolet - signing confirmed

Liverpool have agreed a fee in excess of £11m with Sunderland for goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to Sky sources.
The two clubs are understood to have reached an agreement after protracted discussions and the Belgium international could now undergo a medical and discuss personal terms next week.
Mignolet, who moved to the Stadium of Light from Belgian side Sint-Truiden three years ago for £2m, still has two years remaining on his contract but Sunderland appear to have found it too hard to resist Liverpool's overtures.
A deal will increase speculation over the future of the Reds' established No 1, Pepe Reina.
The Spaniard has been linked with a summer return to Barcelona but has three years left on his own contract and has not yet been the subject of any approach.

Fuck me. Actually fuck Ian Ayre. Lord knows the kind of wages we have offered to him if he is 11m. What the fuck possessed us to do this

I wonder if we are tripling his wages in order to leave such a magnificent club and join us.

Isnt it 9 mill + add ons? Think the BBC reported that.

The transfer record for a goalkeeper is 19 mill ( De Gea )

It's funny how people get all a bit money conscious when it comes to signings. Anyone would think it comes out your very own bank account. It doesn't - Mignolet is a good quality and young keeper who hopefully is only going to get better. He definitely strengthens the team. I'm all for it.

I'm loving this transfer (almost) window.

I agree. I'd rather pay a few million extra aswell to get our top target.
We've gone for the second best option far to many times.

Like it was funny when we paid 20M for Robbie Keane, 35M for Andy Carroll, 18M for Stewart Downing, 120K a week for Joe Cole and so forth and so forth.

Yeah, that stuff doesn't have an impact on us at all!

Begovic was superb in the first half of the season, but faded quite badly. Enough to cast doubt over whether he is on an upward curve or just having a good season. Of course, the same doubts can be cast over Mignolet, but he was the more consistent last season of the two.
