It's utterly ridiculous to consider selling Salah, it's a bad enough decision for footballing reasons alone, but just imagine what that signals to our new signings, to Allison, VVD, all our big stars who are here to win stuff, if two games into the season we sell off our superstar player, after under delivering at both CB and arguably DM already this summer. They'll quite rightly start thinking about where they should be playing to actually challenge for trophies again, cos sure as hell we won't spend a penny of that Salah money on anyone remotely capable of putting us back into contention, thats if we spend any of it at all.

Agreed.
We have enough holes in our squad to fill. We don't need another abyss.
Just make the deal now for next summer if Salah wants to leave.

I feel genuinely sick reading the arguments about how selling him would benefit us. The only thing FSG would invest the Salah money in is unlocking a new set of skins for Henry and other high profile lizards. I thought it was obvious this was their idea of "the big rebuild" by now

Under FSG we've always been about spending what we achieve through sales, or in quiet seasons a max of ca. £35m. We made an offer of £110m for Caicedo ... what on earth makes people think we won't spend big on 2-3-4 players with that and the Salah money (less tax, agent's fees etc. which will reduce it) ?

I dunno. Maybe because we've needed about eight players for three years and all we've done is chat shit about Bellingham until some genocidal maniac gave us fifty million quid for some of our old shite.

You need a list of those we've bought? Or would a link do?

We've clearly spent more than enough to keep us at the very top. Best side in the world a few years ago and now you're happy with Darwin fucking Nunez.

I didn't say we'd spent enough or invested when we should have, but all this bollocks about not spending is just that. We've spent over £600m in the past 5 years. Need a link?

We're tenth in the league in spending over the last five years. I dunno what your point is. You're happy with that?

People disregard net spending for some reason, but it is relevant to the conversation.

If I give a homeless person on the street 5 million quid, then charge him 5 million quid for a bottle of water, you don't just ignore the 5 million I handed to him and say he spent 5 million and is a big spender. He's just spending what came in and is back to square one.

Like people defend FSG for signing Alisson and Van Dijk, and spending big there.

We don't sign those two if they're not offset by flogging Coutinho for 140m or whatever it was.

If we sell Salah, there's a chance we can compete next year as it should bring in 2-3 to players as we did with the sale of coutinho (and that's without getting 40 million).

This is precisely my argument. We started to compete with city when we sold coutinho, because we could improve huge problem areas.

We may be at that stage again

I don't *want* to sell Salah, but he's potentially our biggest asset, and that's the constricts we're working under

Net spend is just one metric though.

How about all the commercial revenue and prize money we got over the same period?

Then on the other side you have wages and bonuses.

That's why the annual accounts are a better metric. Even then Chelsea are cooking their books with the whole recognising each sale fully in year 1, but spreading the purchases over 5-9years.

Nope. People are always talking Netspend but there needs to be context. Coutinho was never worth £150m and we actually improved dramatically after selling him and reinvesting. A windfall considering how much we were investing in infrastructure.

This 2nd Klopp rebuild is barely half way through and we've got some great players in. The club has showed a willingness to invest over the past 2 seasons (even if their timing has been well off to say the least and we're seemingly ahead of their schedule due to circumstances) so I don't see money per se as an issue - even though we're never going to match the Oil clubs spending.
But the bitching on here is insane at times - that's fans for you I guess - Alzheimer's when it comes to the recent past.

The issue has been dire scouting and lack of action, not financial intent.

If I just pretend we aren't tenth in the league for spending over the last five years will that shut you up?

As much as I'd like to share the assumption that the Saudis would pay an absolute fortune for Salah, I am afraid I do not.

They seem to be all about promising huge money to the players, getting them to demand transfers and then trying to pay as little as possible to the clubs. It was only a month or so ago that they seemed to expect to sign our captain for nothing, and we had to prise a relatively measly 10 million from them.

I still very much hope Salah stays, and I'd be very pissed off at the club if they sell him, but if they do, I expect to be pissed off again a few days later when we find out that the fee is pretty underwhelming too.

If we sell him now I almost hope we don't reinvest this summer - at least not on a direct replacement - because I have no confidence we have a plan in place.

Swallow our pride, hopefully win the Europa, and get a transfer team and strategy in place to make a big rejuvenation of the squad in January and next summer.

Selling him now just to spunk nine figures out of desperation is the worst outcome imo.

I understand where you're coming from. Doing another Andy Carroll is the worst outcome out of all of this

The noises coming from the club are that he isnt for sale. Klopp said the same on Friday. His agent the same a couple of weeks ago.

Its not happening at this stage of the transfer window. Next summer - yes, but not now.

250 - 350- 500 -M They earn $ 1 Bill per day What would fsg say to that kind of wonga.

I'm afraid I would take 4.5 - 500 mil right now and struggle through till winter or get Mbappe.in a flash.flood.
