I think if we can, we settle on that fee for the summer and push the 2-3 signings in Jan ... but it will likely be Jan or summer for both
After seeing Ferguson spearhead the routing of Newcastle, I believe the best ones aren’t necessarily those in the spotlight; you just need good scouting and data analysis to find them.

How they found Macca I will never know. He wasn't even playing in the Argentine national youth teams when they signed him.

Spanner in the works I'd say

Bring Me The Head Of Sergio Ramos sounds like a classic Western movie, as well a Salah contract request for MBS.

He’s definitely getting called into the embassy for a chat about his visa.

Next summer and go all out for Kvaratskhelia

Lovely player, but his goals have dried up lately. 13 games and counting without scoring in the league, only 2 assists in that time. Those are not Salah replacement numbers.

List of Salah replacement the press will link us too
The Georgian (very unlikely, its not a league we look at)
Pedro Gonclaves (Very possible, Portuguese)
Ivan Toney (suspension ends 14th of Jan, I think he is on the list)
Gift Orban (Very unlikely, Belgium league)
Marcos Leonardo (20 year old Brazilian)
Leroy Sane (possible, German)
Bowen (depends on the price)
Felix (very unlikely, no end product)
Chiesa (Hope not, injury prone)
Florian Wirtz (???)

Of that list there is only one that comes close, and thats Bowen. Proven PL, he can score, dribble, is a fighter, and nearly always available like Salah.

Bowen’s output is nothing like Salah’s though - he’s 27 in December and he’s only reached double figures in premier league goals once.

That’s not the sort of replacement I’d want for the money West Ham will ask.

With all due respect he plays for a low low block team. In our team he will have greater output in terms of goals. His positioning is very good and reads the game well.

What we need to consider regarding replacing Salah is that there has not been a right winger that produces the GA he does in the PL, so its nearly impossible to replace him. But his effectiveness is getting less as a right winger. Now consider this, his weaknesses include an inconsistent ability to beat his man as a winger, and against certain opposition he is not that effective because he is getting out muscled. So my view is, if we replace him, outside of Bowen, I want a player who will have the ability to run at opposition with deadly pace and bring others into play better suited to score, and to do that consistently during games. If you think back to the Newcasle game you saw TAA get rattled consistently by his opposite number for most of that first half, and a constant threat. Thats what we want a constant chaos maker on the wings, and you will see lots of easy chances been opened up for our other players. This is what City are great at, so his replacement does not need to be like for like in terms of offerring same GA, just needs to create problems, and if he has an ability to score then great. This is also the reason why I am not bothered if he leaves us, we will get a more active winger for the right. I have great hope in young Ben, but he lacks experience right now, so not fully ready for that role.

I think you’re underestimating his importance, his impact and his abilities.

Bowen is as likely to be one of those players that can do well at smaller clubs but not at big clubs.

Honestly… if we sell Salah now for £200m - I could probably name the posters that will add that £200m to the £115m we were going to spend on Caicedo and start raving about why we aren’t spending £315m+ in the next window.

I don’t think I can recall a point in time where so many people were desperate to sell one of our best players - it’s a really weird state of affairs.

Disagree on Bowen, he has a good story to back his progress and will do well for us.

For 150M no, because of the timing, but come next season we may have to review depending on how well he does this season. I think most fans have been reasonable on their expectations, and also the fact that we never seemed to recruit when we should have in the past 3 seasons. Like it or not next season we may have to replace him, and rebuilding the defence is a must. Also, I think Mo is passed his peak now, and its time we stop attaching ourselves like before. For this season I am not bothered if we sell him or not, but for 180M - 200M for a 31 year old, I can forgive FSG and Klopp if the decision to sell takes place.

I think we need to see how our other forwards get on this season to decide which qualities we actually need to replace when Salah goes. For instance if Nunez starts banging them in, we might not need a goal-scorer as much as a creator or maybe a Mane-like winger. We still don’t fully know how Gakpo and Diaz and even Jota fit into the grand scheme of our attack - this is the season we’ll know the answer.

Also at the moment Salah’s best quality is actually his ability to create chances for teammates and link play together - again we’ll need to decide if that’s something we need in a replacement or if we should try to find a goalscoring winger and creator in the mould of the younger Mo - good luck with that!

True, but even that reasoning has a flaw, sometimes we engineer moves where Salah will take the shot not others that are better placed, and while Salah is around his desire for goals will always be greater than his desire to create chances for others. Thats a problem that I believe can cause issues in deciding how effective our other forwards can be in the goal scoring department.

Maybe we should just play Curtis in Mo’s position.

I think the first order of business now that the window has closed is to figure out the sporting director role going forward. Once we have signed the right one then let them have the rest of the season to work on CB and a Salah replacement.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Schmadtke’s contract is extended. Would you?

Not sure. Would be interesting to see the evaluation process after this window.
I think Gravenberch was Klopps preferred midfield target over Lavia fwiw.

I think so too. We might disagree as fans, but I don’t think Klopp has a reason to be unhappy with Schmadtke - he delivered the players he wanted at the pricd point the owners were willing to pay.
