Hmmmmm

Louis Saha hits a fence in his Ferrari. He walks away completely unhurt.

This story seems a bit low on the HORROR quotient! ;D

Everton FC star Louis Saha in lucky escape after horror Ferrari crash

EVERTON striker Louis Saha had a lucky escape after crashing his Ferrari last night.

The Blues number eight, who played in Saturday’s two-nil win over Sunderland at Goodison Park, escaped without a scratch after his sports car left the wet road in Wilmslow, Cheshire, at around 8.45pm yesterday.

It collided with a fence on Altrincham Road, at the entrance to the tunnels that run under the runways of Manchester Airport.

It was in the same tunnels that Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo also crashed a Ferrari during his time at Manchester United.

Saha, 32, is said to own a £170,000 Ferrari 458 Italia – a model that was recalled by the Italian giants last year after several caught fire due to a design fault.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to Altrincham Road, Wilmslow, to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision.

"Officers attended the scene where a Ferrari had collided with a fence outside the tunnel.

"A 32-year-old male driver was uninjured. Inquiries are on-going."

The injury-prone Frenchman was alone in the car at the time of the incident.

Neither the fire brigade or the ambulance service had to be called to the scene.

You seem confused.
The police quoted that a 32 year old male driver was uninjured.

The report points out he was alone.

Ferraris are dangerous bloody things.
Most sensible Ferrari owners put them in the garage at the start of the Autumn and bring them out in the spring, and don't use them in wet weather if they can help it.
They are very unpredictable in the wet and in the hands of anyone else other than experienced racing enthusiasts can't be controlled when the do lose traction

It all goes back to Enzo Ferrari who didn't approve of technological advances to make his cars easier to drive. Four wheels and a lot of horsepower and that's it.

I'm not normally given to political correctness, but a law to stop over-powered cars being sold for driving on the roads would be a good idea. In modern road conditions, there is no sensible justification for owning Ferraris or souped-up saloons like Ford Cosworths or Nissan Skylines.

Can't we get Rooney in a Ferrari ?

Tell him there's a prozzie in there ?

Same with John Terry.

Assure him of the presence of a team-mate's wife in the passenger seat.

Ever since the 430, modern Ferrari's have more computers in them than a space shuttle.

Not when the GTR is available, no.

Money talks, unfortunately. There's a high-priced market for them and that's all the car companies give a stuff about.

They're running quite a high risk of prosecution if they do, as it happens. There may not be a national speed limit but over half the Autobahns have one, as do quite a few other roads, and you apparently can be done for going as little as 3 kph over even an "implied" limit (info.from a former colleague who's just back from spending some time out there).

Use GPS to grab the speed limit data.

I speed like everyone else, but it is an odd thing... having a law that says you can only do 70 and then selling cars that do 100 plus

Why penalize those individuals who won't tit about in them, and can drive them safely? What they should do is send you on a short course on how to drive them, I mean your paying £170,000 and they can't tutor you for an afternoon on how it will handle in X/Y conditions?

No, it is free advice from someone who has been an insurance motor assessor for over twenty years and in the motor trade before that for almost as long 😉

What's your view on this sexual equality nonsense on car insurance Vlad? All I can see is it's going to drive costs for women up. Pretty stupid IMO

Well, the thing insurance ratings are driven by statistics. The statistics tell us that men drivers are from a cost of claim perspective a bigger risk than women. Ratings are also partly driven by driving experience on convictions for speeding etc.
There are factors behind this, it does not mean that women are necessarily better drivers , part of it is that men proportionally do drive more miles than women and therefore have more opportunity to have accidents and leave themselves open to conviction.

Young people also seem to think insurers have some sort of unfounded prejudice against them , it's not unfounded and young drivers and particularly young men are very bad risks.

Drivers think its the car that is the main object of insurance, it's not, it's the third party risks that are the issue.
People think it's odd they have to pay three times more insurance than the car is worth for a young driver, it's not the £800 Focus that is the issue, it's the new Beamer they are going to plough into and the personal injury claims for not only the Beamers occupants , but the Focus Drivers passengers. Personal injury is the biggest outlay in motor claims.

By way of example, say a lad of 18 has not long passed their test, has a basic small car, and has a quote for £2,000 , that's about £5 a day. If they said to you, look I can't get my insurance until the day after tomorrow, but here's a fiver. If I run into another car , or a bus stop queue of passengers , or turn my car over full of my mates, or have it robbed, smash into a house etc etc , and you pay all the compensation and repair bills, you would have a long hard think about it, I know I would.

As to the original question, is it going to put women's policies up, well, yes it will, but on the other hand it should bring men's down. There is so much money being paid into the pot now that presumably the insurers feel should be right. The same money should still go in , but in different proportions.

Fraud , is the biggest single issue to insurers and their customers , every customer is paying at least £50 on their premium to cover fraud and exaggerated claims.

I read somewhere that they don't expect it to drive mens prices down though....

Depends. If one or two companies see an opportunity to undercut the rest, even by a small amount, the others might decide they have to follow suit. Gonna be interesting.

Bad news for that insurance agency called "Sheila's Wheels!"

It's yet another maverick decision by the European Court of Human Rights. Nowadays, all motor insurance is discriminatory, in that it assesses risk based on the claims statistics. Your premium will be higher if you live in a dodgy area. Would the ECHR consider that discriminatory too?

Don't get me started on the ECHR. I briefly (no pun intended) went out with a barrister who's enough of an expert on it to give training courses, and made sure I kept well away from the subject in conversation. It's probably a good thing she dumped me. ;D
