Should start every game possible. Infinitely better than anything else we have ( which isnt saying much )

No he shouldn't. He has played well against a team from Romania or wherever.

When he does it consistently then yes, but not yet.

Give the guy some heart and a pair of balls and maybe he should be considered starting (I didnt see him today but I doubt it would have changed my mind)

From the post-Arsenal thread...

A decent cameo from Babel, but the opportunity was there for him. He'll always be better when he comes on as a sub in games with zero risk. With space to move into, against tired opposition, and no defensive requirements rom him, he can be dangerous. It's when Walcott looks most dangerous too, for good reason.

Riera was absolutely fucking abysmal, so Babel was a real breath of fresh air when he came on. Good performance from him today.

riera was almost comically bad. I wonder if riera is stinking the place out on PURPOSE so rafa gets rid at a reduced price.

Babel when he came on against Everton was painful.
to be fair the defense and a lot of the midfield were hoofing left and right, a very difficult game to come into

Based on tonight he should get a start over Riera for the next game.
Maxi will be on the left.

Based on tonight, I should get a start ahead of Riera for the left wing.

Babel is shit. So is Riera.

Does that mean he cannot chase down defenders or apply pressure?

It is a question of which position he's most effective at. Its crystal clear, upfront, striker/forward. He should start more games but knowing Rafa, even if he score 5 goals in a game and the next game he will warm the bench. Absurd.

From day 1 Babel has been effective coming off the bench and consistently shit when starting.

He should be on the bench every game and get to come on for the last half an hour if we need a goal.

How is it crystal clear he should be a striker?

No point asking. We'll have to wait til someone answers that question on another site

I said it yesterday and ill say it today!! He's shit, he hasnt done it and he deserves no place in the starting eleven! He's lazy! Has no heart! I could go on but it just angers me. How anybody sees anything in him is beyond me! Then again none of our left sided players are good enough to be part of a big trophy chasing team!

well all the haters only have to put up with him for a mere 3 short months more and then he will be gone.

Neil - give it up mate, seriously. People hate him. Even mild mannered posters take shots at him non-stop. He's not done enough - be it due to Rafa or himself. Unless he does something amazing in the next 3 months, he'll be off.

I repeat. He's fucking shite. Apart from the odd goal here and there and the odd bit-part performance like last night he's been a complete waste of money. He's more interested in music than football. Shame he hasn't got the talent for either.

Ajax produce great motherfucking footballers.. The list is long Johan Cruyff, Bergkamp, Jari Litmanen ( I loved him when he played for us I really did), The De Boer brothers, Van der Sar, Overmars, Davids, Seedorf, Kluivert etc etc.
So when we got Babel I was over the moon I really was, I was more excited about him than Torres because I really thought this guy would step it up at another club (like so many of the ex-Ajax players did) and he would become a wonder world beater for us.

I have always been in the Babel needs games camp and wanted him to play, and really put down his shittyness to Rafa being a shit manager and not playing him. I want Rafa gone and one of the reasons was to help players like Babel maybe a new manager would come in and help to develop him etc.

I liked him right until the second I read he posted on his twitter page that he didn't wana get involved and stuck into a challenges cos he might injure himself. That's not Rafa's fault, that's not a world class amazing player trying to break out, that right there is a wimp, a no hearted, no desire type moron.
Lucas is shit, no doubt but he makes an effort, thought Cara and Kuyt show some great touches they are not in the same class ability wise as Babel but they have some heart, desire and grit about them while Babel raps and twits.

Agree, I even thought he was shite last night, but I think I have just had enough of him now.
Ryan Babel too little too late, close the door on the way out. How many chances does he get from people?
He got loads of the ball, looked like he meant business then the defender just takes it off him, or he runs into them, there was not a lot of positive output from all his huff and puff.
Benitez would have been better affording Pacheco the time Babel had (although Riera was poo)

I've said my piece on babel, young players need games to improve (no arguement there surely?). 10-15 minutes here and there when things have gone tits up and we are chancing our own arse isn't doing us or him any favours.

frankly we are getting from babel what we deserve because we haven't played him enough to warrent an imporvement. what makes me laugh is rafa plays insua and lucas game after game and what have they done to warrent that patience and selection? fuck all. move on babel, save your career.

They've showed a little bit of desire. Some passion. Y'know, a glimpse of what it means to wear the shirt. That's obviously not a pre-requisite for you but it is for most Liverpool fans.

It's really no surprise that you should appear after an above average cameo appearance from Babel against a bunch of Romanians who haven't played a competitive game since before xmas. Woohoo! You were right all along! Get a grip. It's laughable, it really is.

He's a gutless, clueless moron who has wasted the best opportunity of his life, not the innocent victim you make him out to be.

Babel haters can bang on all they want about 'lack of heart' or whatever. The fact remains the Babel's limited attributes of pace, directness and a fierce shot, at times, make him our most dangerous player on the pitch. Because everyone else out there is slow, uncreative and of limited ability. I'm not saying he's a better player than Riera, Kuyt & co, but he certainly provides the startling contrast we really, really need at times.

Whatever the fate of Ryan Babel, I don't know how anyone could not appreciate that.

Which is sort of what I said in the ratings thread, we vehemently argue the virtues, and defects of players amongst ourselves and are losing sight of reality. We argue from our own insular perspective, and all we are doing is comparing one slightly average player from another.
Riera or Babel?Yossi or Dirk? Lucas or Aqualani? Inusa or Aurellio?, N'gog and ? oh..... (we haven't even got a back up to argue the case with on that.)
The truth is while any of them are first choice players we are doomed to fail. Yossi and Dirk, might make a bench in a decent team.
