the problem is people see babel as a winger, he isn't a winger and we are doing our best to turn him into something he is not because he has searing pace.
babel is at his best when there are players buzzing around him and he can give quick give and go and lightning fast one touch moves.

he is the sort of player that is ideal for breaking down teams no because of solo brilliance but because he was in involved in a flowing passing move and personally I think it is no coincidence that when liverpool have absolutely battered teams the chances are he started the game (the obvious exception being the manu 4-1).
Spidey, he's played in wide areas throughout his career. There's a very good reason why the Ajax, Holland and Liverpool staff seldom deployed him as a striker, therefore it's not inaccurate to label him a 'winger'. And in all that time, you think he would have learnt one more trick more other than, cut in, cut in - blast!

He does stretch teams, however, and whilst he extremely limited, he needs to stay in our first eleven.

His inclusion now makes the use of Yossi on the left earlier on this season look fucking ridiculous.

Ultimately we need better on the left, but I'm not against keeping Babel as a decent squad player. Like Yossi and Kuyt he can play in a few positions when needed and he's worth having around.

he was left on the left of a front three rather than the left of a midfield 4, there is a bit of a difference there.
as for oncey saying he was shit yesterday, each to their own but I thought babel had a decent enough game.

**hopes oncey's cursing of Alonso and Aquilani comes to fruition with Babel**

**puts a $5 on Babel scoring 10 league goals next year**

Oncey sick of accepting average dross at our club

Hahahaha, you get it wrong about Liverpool players more often than anyone
Youre opinion about ANYTHING to do with Liverpool is of no interest to me these days. Away and wish injury on a youth teamer or something, it's the ONE thing you're still half decent at. Repetetive, boring and predictable like, but halfway decent.

He's definitely made some improvement but there's a long way to go before I'm convinced.

watched the highlights again, babel was the one who flicked the ball onto torres when torres scored his wonder goal so that makes 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 4 starts.

You still have to track back and help out if you're part of a front 3. Look at Rooney last year, stationed out on the left, he worked his bollocks off all season long, as did Tevez. Using that as an excuse as to why he's not the decent winger we need is nonsense. As is the notion that we're asking him to do something he's unsuited for.

He could and should, perhaps, have been treated better by Benitez in the past, but that's all he's got in the way of excuses.

And all this is coming from a Babel fan.

Heh. That's reaching a little bit spidey. I didn't have too many issues with Babel yesterday - thought he was decent myself - but giving the ball to Torres when he's got a couple players in front of him at that angle is pushing the definition of an assist to it's very limit.

Played pretty well today, and showed why he should play more often; he has pace, power and a goal threat.

Well done Ryan.
...but his sheer pace slows the team down.
Haha

Definitely, he deserves a stay of execution because he's applying himself correctly. He still makes child like decisions at times, but he IS being more decisive and as a result, more of a threat. I've noticed that on the break he's been getting more central, pushing alongside Torres, which can be a nightmare for defences, and as we've said over the pace issue, it's been much needed. The addition of Magic has really helped in this respect too.

Hopefully he'll push on now for the remainder of the season and give whoever is in charge next season something to think about.

One thing I will say though is that we've always maintained he's a confidence player and he's quite brittle in that respect, he now has virtually no competition for a place and it's obviously a factor in his upturn in form, like he's not feeling the pressure as much. Either way he's done everything we've always wanted him to do.

Well done Ryan!

One thing is for sure, Ryan is afraid of being tackled. One incident stood out when a Sunderland player came charging at him when he was at the side line, he panicked and pushed the ball out before the tackle came in.

If he could dribble, use his left foot, head the ball and maintain concentration he'd be reasonable.
His heading is poor, though he did do one decent knock down for Kuyt or Torres (can't remember). When the ball gets played into the box though the timing of his jumps are woeful.

he definately flicks the ball on.
the goal is a result of torres' brilliance but an assist is an assist.
also babel was the one who crossed for maxi, who in turn nodded down to johnson who in turn feed torres.

I watched the highlights again this morning and babel was involved in quite a few of the moves, I'm little surprised anyone would suggest babel had a poor game to be honest.

goggle that did you oncey? I think there is a 'little' bit of a difference between flicking the ball on to team mate in the final third and passing the ball to team mate on the edge of your own penalty box.

He played pretty well ysterday IMO although he did run into a few defenders which is just poor, he also was seen to tackle back which for him is unbelievable.... he played well and was a threat.... what saddens me is the realisation that the only reason he is putting the effort in now is the fact that without it he wouldn't be going to SA for the world cup.... its got fuck all to do with LFC, he couldnt give a shit about LFC.

We should get rid if we can.

I don't think the world cup has got anything to do with it to be honest.

Babel can run fast and blast....that reminds me of Cissé. I know who I´d rather have (despite his off field antics).
