A nugget in a desert?

They want players in return?

Eh.

What he actually means is having a high value, talented player is pointless if he's playing in a shite side that won't achieve much.

thats what i took it to mean

if lille is the desert, how is getting players going to compliment the nugget that they've just sold.....

I interpret that as being what can they do with 20million quid in the bank account in Jan when the majority of players aren't available to strengthen their squad.. They want players + cash for a Jan transfer so as to not rock their season..

That's pretty much what I thought it meant too.

I'm not sure if the desert is Lille or the buyer though.

Fuck it. I don't want him anymore. His chairman is a cryptic arsehole

Hazard is a big fish in a small pond (I presume Lille build their team around him) in Lille but a move to a big club mightn't work out for him. cf Quaresma at Porto.

With a name like Eden Hazard, he deserves to make it.

Unlesssssss

He's referring to us as the desert!?

The depressingly accurate analogising cunt!

ah, but faint heart never won fair lady, young sire. let's sign the mother - if it happens i think it'd be the most exciting signing i've seen as a fan, except maybe stan collymore. but i was only 12 then so that doesn't count.

I've seen Hazard a handful of times and then in the odd highlights from time to time. There are some players you don't have to watch a lot before positively knowing they are absolutely going to make it mind.

Hazard for me is one of those rare breeds. Christian Eriksen from Ajax is another one.

Almost went a post without mentioning a Dane there, KHL 😛

Knowing The Budge like we all do, he won't be watching Hazard. He will have been watching Gervinho with his shit hair, or some 34 year old Scandinavian defensive mid.

Brace yourselves. We won't be signing Hazard.

In fairness, what I've seen he looks good. Youtube clips admittedly, but y'know.

Did he go to the World Cup? Did he get a game?

He got one game yeah but in a rather awful looking, unfit and ageing Danish side. Youngest player at the WC though.

He has alongside the rest of the Ajax team not found his feet so far this Season and has been benched in their last games. He'll be alright though I'm sure.

You're a Lille season-ticket holder then?

Seriously, he does look a great prospect, but he's 19 - I'd be encouraged if we signed him, but not excited or expectant like I was when we signed Torres or Barnes or Kewell or Aquilani.

For every Cristiano Ronaldo, there are at least three or four Quaresmas, Babels and Drenthes.

right. and i'd be much more excited than i was about kewell and aquilani, and marginally more than i was about torres - barnes was before my time. but each to their own.

btw i'm not a lille season ticket-holder. one of my mistresses is a lille-based furrier and international coffee merchant, though, so whenever i'm in the city i try to go to the game.

Liverpool are are examining a group of players at the French side Lille, with the central defender Adil Rami a possible target for January, according to sources in France.

Rami, who appeared for France against England at Wembley last week, has become a permanent fixture for Laurent Blanc, and Roy Hodgson saw him play in the 2-1 win over Monaco which took Lille to the top of the French league. France Football magazine cites Rami as a prime target, though the Ivorian wide man and forward Gervinho also impressed in that game, while the Belgian striker Eden Hazard was responsible for both Lille goals.

Hazard also impressed hugely in the first leg of Liverpool's Europa League tie at Stade-Lille Metropole last season, though Liverpool's director of football strategy Damien Comolli – who left Saint Etienne to take the job at Anfield – is all too aware of the £30m price tag which prevented Lyons signing him this summer.

Though the signing of Rami – who like other Lille players Liverpool have been watching for five months – would appear to plug a gap at a club who are currently one defender down, there is hope at Anfield that Daniel Agger will be back within three weeks. A second striker is the top priority, which is why 23-year-old Gervinho is considered a prospect for a club for whom young acquisitions are essential. Moussa Sow, Lille's 23-year-old Senegalese striker, has scored nine goals in 13 games this season though it is unclear whether he is a contender.

Hodgson has admitted that visiting Spurs, as his side do on Sunday, is a much tougher proposition than in the past and that Harry Redknapp's side "are no longer the Tottenham of old." Hodgson needs a win to cement Liverpool's pursuit of a top-four position and Champions League football, which Spurs have deprived them of this season. But he characterised Tottenham as a wealthy, lavishly assembled club this season.

"One defeat in eight is a good run at any stage of the season. We have to be happy with that but we are not stupid," Hodgson said. "We know that if you go to Tottenham it could be two defeats in nine but, if we can play like this, we can make sure Tottenham don't have a cakewalk and, if we can keep Fernando Torres and David Ngog firing, we may spring a surprise. Wins are hard to come by against the top teams and today we have got to admit that Tottenham... are a top team and have just beaten the European champions in the Champions League. It is an expensively-assembled team and we are not playing against mugs any more."

Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Tottenham in January in one of their better performances of last season heralded hopes that they might tighten their grip on the fourth place which ultimately proved way beyond them. Steven Gerrard is targeting the Aston Villa home match on 5 December for his comeback, which means he will have missed only three games with his hamstring pull.

Liverpool have confirmed that Tom Werner, John W Henry's co-owner at Liverpool and chairman of New England Sports Ventures, will succeed Martin Broughton as the club's chairman on 1 December. Broughton said of his task: "It was more difficult [a challenge than expected]. I think the low point was pretty early on, when we had a situation with unpopular owners, the manager [Rafael Benitez] going – so no manager – stories about Stevie [Gerrard] wanting to go, stories about Fernando [Torres] wanting to go. That looked a pretty uncomfortable position at the time."

So we could have fanni & rami at the back!

The possibilities are endless.

Re: More Lille players linked

Rami is actually pretty good. Big strong centre back who is very good in the air.
Lack of pace is the only concern for me though.

Yeah I like Rami too although I find judging defenders from other leagues extremely hard.

And £30m for Hazard? I hope Comolli is as cheeky negotiator as these French presidents seem to be.

Re: More Lille players linked

According to the Times our interest in Hazard has cooled due to his 20 mill £ valuation. Let's hope they are as correct on this as they were on the takeover.
